Parks" Subject: Imogen Heap "Getting Scared" Single / Sarah Slean & Radiohead Given the burst of Imogen Heap conversation, I thought I should mention that one of my local record stores has at least one copy of her debut CD single "Getting Scared" on sale for #0.99. If any Ectophile would like a copy, let me know. In other news, I met Colin Greenwood (Radiohead bass player) yesterday at an event to encourage kids from disadvantaged backgrounds to apply to Cambridge University (Colin studied English here). I mentioned the cover of "Climbing Up The Walls" on Sarah Slean's EP and he expressed great interest in hearing it, so I'm passing on details to him... I had expected that Jeff, Ofer and visiting ectophile Neal would all be there, but I had not expected well-known ectophile Bob Brown to be in attendance as well. Several times early in the evening I spotted him but thought to myself, "Nah... it couldn't be." Fortunately Bob came over during the intermission when he spotted Jeff, Neal and I gathered together, so I was able to learn that it really was him. :) The show itself was fanatastic. In addition to the impressive amount of musical talent displayed by Johnny, Susan and guitarist Eamon O'Leary, there was also a large amount of laughter during the between-song stories and comments. Johnny Cunningham is absolutely hilarious, and Susan is of course quite funny in her own right. Between the two of them they had the crowd howling with laughter. Credit also to the small dog who drank a bit of wine from Johnny's glass. ;) The music was all more or less unrehearsed, but sounded great anyway. The first half of the show consisted mainly of songs from _Bushes & Briars_ and a few fiddle tunes from Johnny (who is, in case you hadn't heard, a true master of the fiddle). The second half was made up of a series of songs and tunes from _Peter & Wendy_, most of which sounded grand... though I did miss the flute part of "The Duel." All and all a truly great experience and well worth the trip. As some of you may know, the solipsistic singer/songwriter brought his act to Boston's Kendall Cafe this past Tuesday, and will do the same this Tuesday, 14 Jul. His live set was really, really good. Those of you who have heard the CD and like the Lunar (ha) flights of fancy he goes off on will appreciate the live performance of his dreamy tunes. The live/band aspect brought an appealingly cerulean (his word) aspect to the more straightforward music. Live, it's also quite intense and sometimes very sad; seeing the man not ten feet away from you, putting his whole self into a sad ballad like "Two People", can bring a lump to someone's throat. The set list: "Moogasm" -- band setting up "Swingin' Party" "Sleep Like An Angel" "I Believe You" "Two People" "Lucky" (Dana Colley enters) "Come & Meet Me" "Mess With Me" (with a verse from "Rock On" tacked on to the end) At this point I had to leave -- the show started late, and I had to get up early for work the next day, and show my out-of-town concertgoing companion to the train. The show was quite good, and I highly recommed to anyone in the Greater Boston area that they catch his next show at the Kendall. And for anyone who hasn't picked up the self-titled release HUB, please go out and do so now. This is one of the best records I've heard in some time, with some heartfelt, literate songwriting and beautiful production. I'm sure they mean _the_ 500 top-level executives. I mean, I think what they're saying is that they're going to send one to like Lee Iacocca and Bill Gates and Ted Turner and Rupert Murdoch and all _those_ 500 top-level executives. You know, like the Indy--no, wait; that's not it--the _Fortune_ 500. Yeah. That's it. I'm sure that's it. I'll have to ask my boss if I can borrow his. - --Charley _________________________________________________________ DO YOU YAHOO!?
