Sharon says: My post states that "Happy's page on the Samson site will be up later this week." That's all it means. There's no hidden message. And I'm not thwacking Vickie, I'm agreeing with her, and everyone else, about how frustrating it is that MWABT is in CD bins at stores and not CD players at radio stations. That's it. One quick and easy thing you can do to minimize bizarre/wrong things is run the pages through a validator. I like the one at http://valsvc.webtechs.com/. Just select "Submit by URL," type in the URL of the page to check, select a variation of HTML to check against, and go. If you check against the official W3C HTML 3.2 spec, you can be reasonably sure your pages will be readable and navigable on everything from Lynx to Arena to two well-known bloated monstrosities that wish they were operating systems (oops, I'm editorializing again :) For extra info you can also turn on weblint, which will warn about things that may not be technically wrong, but are likely to cause problems on some browsers (such as missing alt tags). > bring on August 2, like, now!!!> I only have to wait until the 28th. Ectophiles doing this have made Happy's music available in record stores all over the world. 6) talking up Happy, quietly but enthusiastically, to other people in person, on the web, in other mailing lists, on newsgroups, etc. Don't overdo it or put down another artist to talk up Happy (not that anyone would, but I feel the need to say it). Even saying Happy is "better than so and so" can hurt Happy's chances with a potential fan. I like the "if you like so and so you might like Happy Rhodes" tack. Hook 'em with kindness and casual bait, I always say (well ok, I don't really say that because it sounds kind of stupid, but the gist is there.) Ectophiles outside the US will have to figure out how best to modify that list to suit their region, but everyone can help. Just out of curiousity, where are you and what store did you buy them at? That question goes for anyone else who has found Happy's new CD in a used store. I think we should keep track of where they are coming from and pass that information on to Happy so she can pass it on to Samson. If Samson sends out a CD to a record store/radio station/ publication that just gets turned around and sold used before release, why should they want to send any other CDs to that place. Information like this might help other struggling artists too. Please post or write me so I can start a list. Your name and e-mail address doesn't have to be part of the list. Hi Ectophiles & Mad Missionaries, I sent this to the Jewel lists earlier today, but many of you will also find this a helpful resource this summer. Read on. Alan Hi all, I wanted to tell everyone about a very cool project that Duff & Eric(Crashboy) have been working on. It's a new website that is dedicated to helping EDAs know where all the various LRT artists are playing & tour dates in general for these artists. Point your browsers to: http://thespis.com/crashboy/EDArtists/EDArtists.htm According to the site itself, the goal of this site is: "Through the Everyday Angels (EDA) mailing list, we have introduced each other to a plethora of new artists. This page centers on those up and coming artists who have benefitted and are still benefitting from EDA support, those who have made a difference in EDA lives, or both." You'll find LRT info, touring info & link info for (in alphabetical order): Cindy Lee Berryhill, Heidi Boh, Jenny Bruce, Mary Dolan ,Randi Driscoll, Patty Griffin, Emm Gryner, Joy Eden Harrison, Elizabeth Hummel, Tara MacLean, Holly McNarland, Dayna Manning , Gregory Page , Steve Poltz, Lisa Sanders, & Sarah Slean, with more to be added as time goes on. The coolest part of this site, IMO, is that theres a map of North America divided up into regions. You can simply click on your region & it'll tell you all the interesting gigs (by those artists) coming up in your region. :-) Please take advantage of this resource. It'll definately help connect you up to some great shows this summer. Also if you have additional info that should be included, contact Duff at TJtalken@aol.com & she'll get on it. Visit this site & support these artists. There's a LOT more going on than Jewel! I really loved their first one--still play it pretty frequently--so I gave myself a while to adjust to whatever it was about the new one that didn't grab me. No adjustment; doesn't grab me. I mean, with the first one, Garbage sounded like their own band. Sure, they didn't spring out of a vacuum, no referents or influences. They were definitely memebers of the pomo popapocalyptic school which includes Portishead, Ruby, Bjork, Tricky, Poe, etc., but like each of those artists, they occupied their own space in that school. They weren't like the Sneaker Pimps, and Morcheeba, and Husikesque, who all made pleasant enough knockoffs of the sound that Tricky built. Don't get me wrong; I like the Sneaker Pimps, and Morcheeba, and Husikesque--and Lamb and Stina and Definition of Sound and and and and and . . . I own all that stuff, but most of it kind of blends together, except for the artists I named in the first group--along with other originals in the genre, like DJ Krush, 9 Lazy 9, Nobukazu Takemura, Silent Poets, and and and and and . . . But Garbage has, with the release of 2.0, stuck themselves in a rut. Now they sound like no one so much as Republica: fun enough party music, but no real staying power. - --Ch.D _________________________________________________________ DO YOU YAHOO!?
