I've got them all at home, the one that sticks in my head was called "Frequency and Urgency." They were a fun, quirky band with two female vocalists, one who played guitar, the other, bass. They also had a female keyboard player and I think a man on drums. They were a fun live band too, and I used to see them in the local clubs here in Boston. If you're interested, I'll send the details tomorrow. Are there any other fans of Syd's on the list? Don't know how Ectophilic she is, but she's a wonderful performer and I would love to gab with someone about her I had Syd's _War and Peace_ in heavy rotation when it came out (what, a couple of years ago now?), but that was before I joined Ecto, so I don't know if the album made much of a splash here. Syd does get mentioned on Ecto occasionally, though. I'm curious to know what she's up to these days. Does she have a new album in the works, by chance? I still really enjoy her last album. With regard to Jean-Michel Jarre, I'd recommend Zoolook, followed at some distance by Oxygene and then Equinoxe. I once had these and a couple of others on vinyl; I've duplicated Zoolook and Oxygene on CD and will probably get Equinoxe as well. None of the others stood out much. I've sampled a couple of his recent efforts at listening stations over the last year or so; they didn't do much for me either. Andrew Fries wrote: Tangerine Dream early stuff was amazing! Listen to "Ricochet" if you get a chance! In fact, everything they've done right up to early 80's is worth paying attention to. I've just started looking at the Tangerine Dream bins in the music stores again recently. It looks like some of their earlier work is reappearing, sometimes in remastered versions. I'd love to get _Ricochet_ and _Stratosfear_ on CD; maybe they'll turn up soon... I asked about Rick Green, 1 of the co-writers and 'Bill' the crazy guy , shot in black and white and he is a wild man who looks much like his character. "He'd be me, if we let him!" said Red. Red said he was a genius, crazy, but, a genius. PBS has aired all but the 1st season of the 8, so far. A quote he gave the news guys was: "A woman wrote to say that she watches the show with her husband and he thinks she is laughing at the show!" One news guy mentioned his favorite show and Red said: "We're doing more, so don't talk about favorites yet!". Next season starts filming in September and it seems that if you're in the neighborhood, you can vist the set. bye, KrW TV or not TV? That is the question. I remember when I bought that new... 'twas indeed a long time ago =:-0... one of my all time faves from that period and I was so happy when eventually it was released on CD... timeless indeed! Andrew added... >Tangerine Dream early stuff was amazing! Listen to "Ricochet" if you get a >chance! In fact, everything they've done right up to early 80's is worth >paying attention to... Yes, big nods in the direction of Klause... there were quite a few German artists exploring that genre during that period... I seem to recall Harmonium, Cluster (& Eno) and from England an old fave was Wavemaker (Where are we Captain?) which was basically Peter Howell? from the BBC Radiophonic Workshop (any Dr. Who fans out there :). Andrew, I'm not sure which state you're in (in a geographical sense that is), but back in them days in Melbourne (OZ) there was a record shop called 'Pipe Imports' tucked away in one of the little arcades which speciallized in all of this mesmerising music... it still exists in a nearby lane, but they just crank out heavy metal these daze ;-) ... oops, back to lurk mode... ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 01 Jun 1998 19:20:26 -0500 From: Richard Subject: Re: Really REALLY non-ecto related.. > Richard writes: > > Has anyone else noticed how much Reggie Miller looks like a Ferenghi? > > > Just wondering... > > Naah. Sinead is the singer-songwriter who, along with Dar and Richard Shindell, had some songs covered on Joan Baez's latest album and received rave reviews from Dar herself...here are her US tourdates courtesy of Ger : 6/1 - The Underground in West Palm Beach, FL 6/2 - Eddies Attic in Decatur, GA 6/3 - Iota in Arlington, VA 6/4 - Arlene Grocery in New York, NY 6/6 - Holy Joe's in Toronto, Canada 6/8 - Kendall Café in Cambridge, MA 6/9 - Burns Room in Detroit, MI 6/10 - Schuba’s in Chicago, IL 6/11 - The Front in Minneapolis, MN 6/12 - The Dark Room in Dallas, TX 6/15 - Tractor in Seattle, WA 6/16 - Café du Nord in San Francisco, CA 6/17 - Largo in Los Angeles, CA 6/19 - Lilith Fair in Portland, OR 6/20&21 - Lilith Fair in George, WA hmm...wednesday at Iota...a bit of a long haul on short notice...doubt that i'll go, but i WANT to so badly... While at work today, I listened to the X-Files Soundtrack album which has William Orbit remixing Sarah McLachlan's song "Black"...it is a GREAT remix, which doesn't seem to usually happen to sarah's songs...definitely fits into the X-Files atmosphere...the Dust Brothers also remix the x-files theme with Mark Snow, which is pretty cool...I'm not gonna buy the album full price...maybe i'll be able to snag a promo of it... Also listened to Heather Nova's album at work...didn't pay too much attention to it while it was playing, but it was good enough for me to want to listen to it more...i'm pretty sure that there was an amazing lack of Cello on the album :( My general impression was that her songs were less dark and haunting than on Oyster...a little lighter and alterny-rock accesible... Last week i heard the new Barenaked Ladies single "One Week" on xpn...i guess that they are really moving into the fun-frat-rock arena...it was a bit of a mix between reggae, rap, and rock...steven page and ed what's-his-name sharing LOTS of rapid-fire lyric spittings...actually kinda reminded me of that song "Informer" by Snow...although not as forgettable :) Ummm...Emm Gryner, Steve Ito and Dan Stark and Jess Weiser's little pet project *grin* has an album coming out on Polygram? on June 23rd...same week as Patty Griffin's new album...and the Cowboy Junkies have their new one due either that week or the next. And Imogen Heap comes out next week, i think? too much...need more money...EWS EWS EWS...awoooogah tomorrow i get to see the rehearsal for David Zinman's farewell concert with the Baltimore symphony orchestra...Yo-Yo Ma is performing Faure's Elegy, a piece that i absolutely adore (it's so emotionally wrenching, even if you haven't played it)...so very psyched am i...
