That's because I have been way too busy for fun. I had brought up the idea of a "for trade" service, and also had indicated that I would set something up, but flying computers for a living has kept me away from tinkering with bulletin board software. I still intend to set something up, perhaps a Web-based bulletin board service. But, if you rather do it á la Majordomo, that be fine by me; just let me know before I invest time in setting something up. - - Bill. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 26 May 1998 01:28:05 EDT From: Paul2k Subject: paul's own version of a meth ;) Neal C...i can probably get Mimi's album at my record store for around $11.25 or so with my employee discount...we actually got her album in quantity (ie. more than 10 copies) and have it in a listening station...email me if you want me to pick you up a copy. I have to second meth about seeing Veda live. I wish i could make it up to see her in NY, too...hmmm...I think that i'm probably the only DJ who plays her in the mid-atlantic region :) Although, i wouldn't put it past XPN to do so...anyways, Philly seems more likely a place to have Veda play live than MD/DC...I don't know if Spine was serviced to radio stations, and if it was, what kind of radio stations (probably college indie stations)...we DID get two copies at my record store... woj wrote with his pointy self : > i don't have any musical training, so there are likely to be nuances that i > am missing (i'm just one of those oddballs who likes to have his ears > challenged by stuff that doesn't sound normal), but it makes me wonder > about how one is "supposed" to react to experimental and abstract, so to > speak, musical art. basically, what does one listen for? I have musical training (a buttload of it, and i'm going back for more), and i'm just as clueless about these things as you are...and i bet most "critics," "experts," and "afficionados" are clueless too...they just like to pretend that they understand it all (no offense, joe z *grin)...and as for "what does one listen for?"; i think you answered that with your NP... > n.p. shocking pink banana seat :) Jess W. spoke of Alanis playing God in Kevin Smith's new movie (hey, i feel like meth, talking about this)...this role was originally given to Emma Thompson, but she backed out to work on a script of her own...kind of an odd switch of actresses there, don't you think?... Did anyone else see the "interview" in...umm...Time or Newsweek with natalie merchant?...whichever magazine it was, they've been running this little column in the people section for a little while that is a facetious Q&A session with famous people...the interviewer is always stupid and thus funny, and in her interview, Natalie really came off as a serious tightwad... richard k, i'm curious as to why you think Holly McNarland is a very talented musician...i've never really thought of her in that light...i mean, there are some artists who i see or hear and think "wow, they are really talented" like Susan Werner, Sarah McLachlan, Patty Larkin, Diana Krall...and there are other artists of whom i think "wow, they sound awesome" without considering their musical talents...so, like i said, i'm just curious :) ummm...my brother graduated from Cornell this weekend...made me miss Cindy Lee in DC... When is FRFF this year? Anyone planning on going to the Appel Farms Festival in June with Moxy Fruvous, Indigo Girls, and more...or the XPN singer- songwriter weekend the second weekend of July with Moxy and others? The new Heather Nova single is a bit disappointing...seems like generic fempop...i'm hoping that it's not an indication of what the whole album sounds like... Paul is not a fan of natalie merchant. The photos in her album scare him. If you were planning on seeing Godzilla, don't. :) Unless you feel like seeing Aliens meet Jurassic Park in Escape from New York.
