The Ectoguide had nothing to say about her, but I noticed her name in some posts, and anyway I suspect collectively Ecto knows just about everything there is to know about music :) I visited her website at http://www.ratsy.com but the sound samples there just wouldn't work with my connection - they arrived in form of short bursts separated by minutes of silence while RealAudio Player tried to buffer enough of the file to play it... As you might imagine it was hard for me to even begin forming any opinion, but even under these less than ideal conditions I was intrigued enough to at least try to find out more about her, if not quite enough to just go ahead and order her CD. So, what do you think of her? Andrew, n.p. - Paintstripper, local punk band. It provides a fitting background noise for my frustration, caused by ..... ..... n.r. - various anatomy textbooks, and trying to memorise all these latin names. Humungous crowd of six or seven people......three of whom happened to be related to Ratsy -- her brother (who handles her website and various other aspects of her PR) and a niece and nephew). She reminds me somewhat of Christine Lavin.....very pleasant voice....humorous lyrics (mostly about bad experiences with men it seems)......friendly stage presence. Does a fairly nice job of playing acoustic guitar.......curtsies after every song...... Just a nice change of pace when you're in the mood for something *light*. THaNkS! i appologize to those of you that i haven't been able to write back to individually. one of the downsides to being a superstar (fame can be so trying sometimes) seems to be that the more famous i become, the more fun fan mail i recieve, and (here's the downside part) the harder it is to write back to everybody in a timely fashion. however your notes mean a lot to me and are one of the biggest reasons that i continue my songstress girl/superstar quest. so tHAnKS!!! i love to hear from you! here's the poop... i didn't win the lilith fair doohickey. the winner's were: laurie geltman and mellisa ferrick. both are extremely nice and quite talented. personally, although i like both of them, i would have chosen differently. other than myself (of course), my two favorites were faith soloway and a girl by the name of denise hradecky. but alas, they didn't ask me. go figure. the new retro ratsy CD "the subway songstress years" is doing quite well and is now available in most greater boston stores and other parts of the country as well. also, it and "squished under a train" are now available online through Folk Web at: www.folkweb.com/ratsy they are super congenially friendly and have a secured site for your purchasing convenience. you can also still order directly through me with a check or money order from the music page of my continuingly expanding, groovy brother maintained website: www.ratsy.com finally... here's where i'm playing in may: sunday, may 3rd... Can someone help? ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 8 May 1998 10:12:40 EDT From: AURAL G Subject: 11th Hour Victory Hey again, I feel a little silly after all that, but it's overshadowed by elation. For about the last 3 weeks Samson has been sending me contracts for Happy's back catalog as you know. The one deal point that stuck in my craw was that there were really no assurances that all the old stuff would be made available. There was intent, but nothing in writing and it really irked me that we might have to wave goodbye to some classic songs for marketing reasons. Well.....last night the final draft came through with a provision that ALL MATERIAL SHALL REMAIN AVAILABLE AT LEAST THROUGH MAIL ORDER THROUGHT THE TERM OF THE AGREEMENT !!! VICTORY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Granted artwork, logos, etc. will change but the music will remain on the market !! I'm signing this one. ( I think they're a bit tired of my constant moaning about this point) So everything I wrote yesterday, today is somewhat moot. I just had to keep fighting for that stuff. Think of the generations who could've been deprived of "Beat it Out" Thanks for your concerns and replies. Those who still want originals can still reserve or order. I guess they'll be off the market from now until the new release while Samson retools for their manufacturing. They've been very accomodating and really quite nice to deal with and this last developement is very comforting. They've hired a new Web designer (full time) so all the HR news about the record will finally be available in coporate form. While terra is the stilll the place for the dope and dirt and digs Thanks again and thanks to Samson for helping me keep the music alive. It was shown at the Toronto Film Festival (and won one of the major awards), and then played in a couple of "normal" theatres for a few weeks -- at least here in Toronto and I would assume other major markets in Canada. I think it's currently being relased for US distribution. I'm assuming it will (unfortunately) only play in "art houses", but if you have a chance to see it, it is HIGHLY recommended. I saw it for the second time last week (it's doing the run of Toronto Rep theatres this month). Be on the listen for the Jane Siberry song during the "shopping for a new Virgin Mary" scene (don't ask...) Brad. Spookily enough it was the same day I'd heard about the Hanging Garden and I was explaining about tHG to a friend of mine when the trailer for tHG came on the screen. Played a couple local arty-type houses here in Vancouver for quite some time. (it was probably #2 to Sweet Hereafter in terms of Canadian movie successes) I didn't see it, though.
