Greetings, fair ecto-folk! 'tis nice to be back on the list again!! (not that my absence was conspicuous :) There was a CD sale on the other day which happily coincided with my getting paid, so I waded through the whole thing (such as it was on the day... no doubt I missed a bunch of things added later on, but never mind) and came away with 14 albums. The prize was a replacement of Jane's "Maria", as my original copy was stolen by some low-life. Unfortunately, fate stepped in and made me select one which turned out to have a couple of small pits in the disc surface (manufacturing defects I guess) which made the appropriate tracks skip at those points, and when I took it back the other copies had all gone... *sigh* I took a refund on it rather than keep the defective copy. I guess I'll order a copy from Canada or the US at some point (I haven't seen Jane's albums locally for a while now :( Was her back catalogue deleted after she set up Sheeba????) The rest of the haul was: Eleanor McEvoy, "What's Following Me?" Kendra Smith, "Five Ways of Disappearing" Four Bitchin' Babes, "Fax it! Charge it! Don't ask me what's for dinner!" Four Bitchin' Babes, "Buy Me Bring Me Take me: Don't Mess My Hair..." Throwing Muses, "Limbo" Victoria Williams, "Loose" Indigo Girls, "Nomads Indians Saints" Laurie Anderson, "The Ugly One With The Jewels and Other Stories" Sam Phillips, "The Indescribable Wow" Shona Laing, "Genre", "South", "New On Earth" (3-disc set) Soundtrack to "12 Monkeys" Eleanor looks way different on the cover of WFM? than she does on her eponymous album, and appears to have a band lurking in the background of the ccver photo, so I hope I like this one too!) (ditto Sam, as I only had "Martinis and Bikinis", and I have a faint recollection that she might have gone through a more mainstream phase earlier on(?)) At any rate; time for a nice long listening session :) take care, - -Philip ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 9 Apr 1998 06:16:47 EDT From: JavaHo Subject: Re: Latest Nields Tour Dates Meth informs: << >4/12, Mississippi Nights, St. Louis, MO, 314-421-3853 >> Damn! As I wrote in a previous message I am crossing the pond in 2 weeks to interview for a position in Boston. This is the first time I am going to the USA and I am very excited about it! Because it is cheaper, I take a flight to NY and then go to Boston by train. I arrive on the 17th and leave on the 25th. I haven't made any plans for the week-end of the 17th yet, if you are in NY and are willing to guide a lost frenchie in the big apple :-) please contact me. Dunno if it is true, but if she was havin' a problem, it's good news she is getting help if that is in fact the case. Ok, will there be any smarty pants who can answer this one? I've been looking and looking for oversize magazine holders. I can easily find regular sized cardboard and plastic files, but no one seems to carry the big size. I need a bunch to hold Rolling Stone, Spin, Alternative Press, old Life and (most important to me) old Premiere magazines. I can't bring myself to throw these magazines away, but I'm tired of keeping them in a cardboard box because I can't put them upright on shelves.
