Zimmerman" Subject: Re: mystery movie > comes to a very bad end, but the final scene is rather hopeful. It was > written and directed by Lars von Trier, and it looked like it was shot with > one single hand-held camcorder with less-than-optimal editing equipment. > That movie had a lousy aesthetic, but supposedly the director shot it all on perfectly fine film. Afterwards it was run through some bizarre who-knows-what thing (somebody told me once, but I forgot) to make it LOOK like it was shot by, say, the camcorder on sale for $299 at kmart. And the numerous out of focus bits were supposedly on purpose. The reviews I've read have all mentioned that this was done in order to achieve a '70s documentary look. But I still haven't figured out why the director wanted this look in the first place, since it wasn't a documentary.... Opinions? After I saw Breaking the Waves, I was impressed that a film that looked so bad could actually make it into theatres. Was it all just a novelty sham? Would a movie that authentically looked this poor make it into theatres? I haven't seen one, and I do watch a lot of movies! Personally I thought the movie was a tad dull and overly long, but Emily Watson's performance was certainly grand... - -Scott ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 28 Mar 1998 01:24:53 -0500 From: Jeff Wasilko Subject: [sib@sheeba.ca: SIBERRY pipeline #3 - 3/28/98 - SPRING IS IN THE AIR] - -----Forwarded message from SHEEBA Records ----- A. Jane examines labels on laundry. THE SHIP-CALLED-SHEEBA continues to progress towards more solid water. This wouldn't have been possible without your support. Since I returned from touring last Christmas, I have been running the company alone and it has been VERY interesting. It has kept me sane and I've been grateful for a chance to work hard while the windows rattle. And there has been a definite protective factor felt from the pages of your letters and voices. Thank you. My new motto is "REDUCE TO EXPAND". And "WHAT'S THE LEAST?" I go to work (pretty) early. And I am fascinated with WEEK-ENDS. I've been missing out. And learning about many new things. He promised to only wear it on special occasions and to remove the frame first. COMMENTS FROM CORRESPONDENTS ABOUT THE "PINK BUSTIER" AUCTION: 1. "In the UK it's called "Antiques Roadshow". It is presented by a man called Hugh Scully who has an astonishing hairstyle - a bit like a badger. There was an amusing piece in the papers about a year ago which pointed out that though ostensibly a programme about antiques (complete with very pompous posh "experts"), it's really just a game show by any other name - because the big thrill each time is finding out just how much (or of course how little!) the antique is worth."
