Course, reading doesn't always make them inteligible >either :) from Cy on Albino Luciani I can't figure out which catagory I fall into..if I like the voice and the music and can't understand the lyrics though, I do go crazy. My voice teacher beat it into me to always be understood in my wordage (despite my vocal crush on Rickie Lee and other mumblers)...It is funny that you see Albino Luciani as a boxer, very physic of you actually, as our engineer/co-producer made us all die laughing all through the recording by doing a good imitation of a mafia don (puff out cheeks and think of Marlon and repeat)- "Albino Luciano, yeah, I knew him"... the actual latin, or at least the one I found, it means "The pale white light"...meaning the Great Spirit or God to me while writing it...but yes, the beautiful and spooky mystical monk sound of the words themselves had a lot to do with it for me as the writer..it is one of my favorites on the album. I am usually writing poems and trying very hard not to change them too much into "songs".... Anyway thanks for all your comments and hope to see you all in the east as we plan to tour out there in summer to showcase the album...well, I'm off to San Francisco with a broken ankle!!! Hello, Currently making the rounds on cable this month is a nifty little film called Grace Of My Heart. It deals with a fictional female singer/songwriter during the sixties and was quite enjoyable to this old coot. There is a slight similarity to Carole King in the main character (played by Ileana Douglas). Larry Klein, ex of Joni Mitchell, wrote the music. Worth catching. The owner of my favorite indie cd store recommended it to me this weekend. He has it in his own listening station (his own versus the ones in which the labels rent space), but someone was hogging the listening station and I was in a hurry. I told him I'd be back to hear it and probably buy it later. This guy has *never* steered me wrong about new music. I bought the album after seeing them open for Oasis. I had only heard "Brimful of Asha" and usually completely ignore opening acts, but they put on an excellent show. The album is good, but a little spotty at times. The best songs are "Sleep on the Left Side," which has a really catchy synth sound to it, and "We're in Yr Corner," which is the most traditional Indian-sounding song on the album. I never listen to "Brimful of Asha" because I'm sick to death of it. There are also a couple of electronica inspired instrumentals on the CD which feel like pure filler, but overall it's a good album. I strongly recommend it to anyone who enjoys movies about the music industry, songwriters, or 60's pop/ r&b hits. Ileana Douglas was just great - a strong and also vulnerable main character. And I think there's more than a slight similarity to Carole King. Although some of it is fictional (I don't think CK ever had a relationship with Brian Wilson), there's a lot in this film that parallels her life and work. Also, if you don't have cable, this movie can be rented at video stores. I think I had in mind something more like their She-Ra song (from _Chloe Liked Olivia_). Strangely, the first time I ever heard "I Spent My Last Ten Dollars..." was at an open mic at my dorm, performed by a middle aged gay man. Took on a whole new meaning, if ya know what I mean. > I've sort of been noodling around with a parody idea that came to me in the > middle of the last Nields show I attended: "Gotta Get Over Xena", which of > course would have to be sung from Gabrielle's point of view. er, meth? You need help. ob Happy: I took _Peter and Wendy_ over to my folks' tonight, so I could listen to it while I played computer repairperson for them. The album ended, and Dad, who was closer to the 6-disc CD player, hit the buttons such that _Rearmament_ started playing. Of course, then he realized that what he *really* wanted to hear was _Peter and Wendy_ again, so I didn't get to hear the Happy disc. In fact, I believe we listened to P&W three times all the way through before the computer was working again. n.p. _Ray of Light_, Madonna n.r. _Winter Eyes_, Lev Raphael (funny how much reading I've been getting done what with being stuck on jury duty for the last 3 weeks) - -- |Jeffrey C.
