Meth, I was going to address this "& all" but the though of doing so gave me gas ;-). You wrote; >> It's scary -- the first time I ever saw the Chanting House play Michelle was very pregnant<< When I saw Susan & Lindsay in Commack on Fri. the 13th, Susan mentioned that when the Chanting House performed at the Celebrate Brooklyn concert series in Prospect Park, Michelle was "Very" pregnant. She said up on the stage it was about 140 deg. F. and they had to keep an iced up wet towel on Michelle’s head to keep her from passing out. This was prior to my becoming aware of the Chanters’ existence and rue the lateness of my enlightenment. >> Michelle has a nice voice, but it's not very strong, and I found myself wishing I weren't such a lyrics person. << I’m not so much so, a good lyric can stir my heart, but I’m more the voice as instrument type, if it’s a quality voice, lyrics in incomprehensible tongues move me big time. >><< Does the intro on "In London So Fair" bring Mr. Fripp a la League of Crafty Guitarist’s to mind ? The Commack thing, in certain respects was a landmark in John's musical cosmology. I had recorded Susan's performance over in Staten Island's New Dorp Library on the 10th and asked her permission to give it another shot out in Commack. Arriving in Commack expecting Lindsay & Susan to be performing strictly acoustic, turns out the house had a rinky-dink little P.A. I had already set up to record and had to scramble to rearrange things to get their system up and running. Susan let me engineer the show. They had a little Carvin powered mixer and two petite full-range boxes to go with it. Carvin makes decent speakers but their electronics are from hunger. They had the tell-tale "singing in a garbage can sound " at 400 cycles and EQ sliders @ 300 & 500. Aghrh ! Having had a molar and a bit of jawbone ripped from my skull earlier in the day by this savage Russian woman on Flatbush Av, a dental hygiene dilemma the likes of which I wish on not even my most dastardly of foes, the drugs just weren't getting the job done. My last nerve was stretched so, had Walenda used it as his high-wire he might still live. Fortunately Susan & Lindsay's fine work overcame the system's inadequacies, and my meager engineering skills as well. Mr. Woj, In my response to your kind "Drake Dub" offer I mentioned that I had taped the Staten Island thing but fell short of offering you a copy. I wanted to get Susan's permission to do so first, I've done so, and will try to get that to you the next time our paths cross. I only request that if you copy it for anyone please get Susan's O.K. first. I'd cut off my leg and feed it to the jackals before betraying her trust. I taped and engineered Ms. McKeown's show this afternoon in Boarders at the World Trade Center and will include all three things if they'll fit. There again, as at Commack, it was mixed for the house rather than the tape so I'll ask your indulgence in matters of sonic imperfection. In both joints the board was behind their set up and being monitor-less, I relied on hand signals from out front for levels. At the W.T.C. Susan was to be joined by Michelle and Jamshied but Michelle came up short in the baby-sitting department. That's Jamshied's beautiful young daughter you'll hear squealing at the beginning of Bushes & Briars. Jamshied's extraordinarily attractive wife was in attendance as well. Was it Mike Curry who expressed reservations about his electric keyboards' appropriateness at the Fez show ? At W.T.C. he played an acoustic baby grand the house wheeled in and was the soul of discretion about arrangements. Tasteful, subdued, the perfect accompanist. I only wish the show had been longer, just as I imagine you all wish this post were shorter. If I'm going on forever It's because the last two weeks the dials have been set on berserk and I'm past cranked. I wanted to tell you all about the Armenian music festival my partners and I did the sound for this weekend at Queensboro Community College and at Bergen Tech in Jersey, but since it's getting late and I'm heading out to the Factory to see Lindsay and his band, I'll spare you that for now, except to say it was most peculiar. I *need* this album. Like, now. But since I can't have it for almost another two months, I guess I'll just have to take refuge in all the other new stuff we've gotten lately. People are talking about Tori's new album being a "big departure" because she's intentionally going for more of a full-band sound, but this clip didn't sound like it would have been out of place on any of her other albums.
