Ayres (department store), we were paying and dancing around to Lisa Loeb's video "I do" (they have a bunch of tvs above the clothes w/ music videos) and after that was over Dar's video for "What do you hear in these sounds" came on!! Ahhh! :) It was so cool! My roommate was like, "who *is* this" and I told her, and I was singing around and dancing and the cashier asked me who it was. I told her I'd been a fan of Dar's for about 2 years and I'd never heard a song of hers on the radio here, let alone a video. :) Pretty cool! Has anyone else seen this video? maybe (haahahhaahah) on M2 or something? I'd love to get a copy of it or something. It was just weird. Of all places to see that, I'd never expect to see it in a department store! Good publicity for Dar, though. :) If someone wants to post this to Dar-list, that's cool. Unfortunately I got unsubbed from it and haven't had a chance to sign up for it again... Jessica! I didn't indulge in the mega-binge that I had expected, and only came home with a few titles. But, more importantly, I came home with my second 272-slot CD tower; I told the first one as I walked into the livingroom, "hey, you got a sister now!". :) These are the discs I got: Holly Cole - dark dear heart (great voice!) Women & Songs (compilation) Ella Fitzgerald - The Best of the Song Books Ella Fitzgerald - The Best of the Song Books: The Ballads (I already have The Best of the Song Books: Love Songs) and... ::: drum roll ::: Karl Jenkins - Diamond Music (featuring "Palladio") (thank you Philip David for the discology) I hate it when my wife comes home after shopping (which happens as often as it rains in the Pacific Northwest), and I must review every little deal she got. But, as she always says, "I just had to tell somebody". :) - - Bill. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 28 Feb 1998 23:20:16 -0500 From: Paul Blair Subject: Valerie et Mila I checked out Autour de Lucie on Tuesday night at Luna Lounge--another East Village venue I'd never been to before, just around the corner from Arlene's Grocery. The place was packed: it was hard enough crossing the bar room to get to the performance area in the back. That room was pretty much full when I arrived 15 minutes before showtime; all the empty space was filled with people standing, but there were still a few spaces to wiggle through until they actually started. The band was good, but I like the CDs a lot better. Since they don't tour with a drummer, they either do without--in which case the music loses a lot--or depend on a taped rhythm track, which feels artificial. They should find someone with bongos who can follow them around the US. :-) Everything they did was from *Immobile* except their encore, "Chanson d'hiver," which I'd never heard before. Valérie said it was something they used to sing a long time ago. It was a little strange to hear "La deuxième chance" before "Sur tes pas," since the former comes across to me both musically and lyrically as a sequel to the latter. Tonight I was at Arlene's Grocery to see Mila Drumke and ran into meth, woj, Jeff and Don. It was the usual great Mila Drumke set; this time she started on an upbeat note with "All Things Told" and left "Constance" to near the end. She also gave "Under the Ivy" a rest and did "Motorboat" as her encore. Besides Lyris, Mila was backed up by Clem Waldman on drums and Tony Shanahan (from Mila's first album) on bass; I think I prefer Mark Sacco and Elissa Moser, though. ***************************************************************************** "Let her out?
