Hi, all-- Remember a while back I was bemoaning the fact that I had lost some of the "B" files for the Ectophiles' Guide and I couldn't quite figure out how I'd managed to to that when I thought I was being so careful? Well, I found them! I just happened to run across them on my work computer. I dunno why they were there--I've never kept any Guide files there. All I can think is that when I had to remove all my stuff off that old email account I downloaded them in such a hurry I put them in the wrong place. Anyway, I have them. Wish I'd found them earlier, though--it would have saved a lot of duplicated work on the Altered Images, Bjork, Big Hat, Mari Boine, Iva Bittova and Breeders files. So it goes. At least I've got the ones that I had no way of reconstructing. BTW, there are several new files up on site, like Caveman Shoestore, Iris Dement, Amy X Neuburg, Pooka, Psychowelders, Suddenly, Tammy!, and Zap Mama. Thanks to Neal Copperman and Marion Kippers and my own reluctance to settle into work on the story I'm trying to finish. Heh. We keep growing, slowly but surely. Over 165 artists/groups now and we've still hardly begun. Thanks again to Jeff Wasilko for the space, too. - --Neile n.p. Their second US release just came out yesterday...they're on Nettwerk :) Seem to be getting a LOT of good buzz from industry mags and such...good luck to them...i love their first US album. Oh, Ger, did you know that Chris Douridas is gonna be leaving the "Morning Becomes Eclectic" host slot soon? You gonna take over? ;) *psst, Ger, you should join Ecto...you'd love it and be right at home* Hmm...while we are on the thread of new stuff coming soon (no, this doesn't include Deep Rising which i saw on monday after work [1 AM test screening at my theater]), Kristin Hersh has a new album out this coming tuesday...it's her second solo album and her first after the breakup of Throwing Muses :( I got to play the new single from Ani D yesterday on my radio show...the title track to her new album Little Plastic Castles...very surprising...i know that she's used horns before on her albums (especially on Out of Range) but here the horns are much more prominent and the arrangement of the song seems to have had the horns in mind as a major part of the music...almost ska-ish...and the cover of the single is un-ani-ish...reminds me of the cover to the Aqua album :O Other things : Noella Hutton has a new album out soon...she has some good AAA buzz behind her...Mono's album soon to be released in the States is called Formica Blue and the first single is "Life in Mono" which can also be found on the Great Expectations sdtk; you can hear it in the background of the commercials for the movie- kind of a mix between portishead and the cardigans, i guess...Sarah Mclachlan is still doing gangbusters on most formats of radio and retail (and today is her birthday, of course *grin* happy 30th, sarah!)...The cd for the PBS show "a long journey home" (at least i think that's what it's called...someone correct me if i'm wrong) is getting a strong push; it features lots of celtic/irish musicians...also, i believe that Mountain Stage and Green Linnet are both putting out collections of female celtic musicians.... Jules Shear has a new album out soon that features duets with tons of artists, including Paula Cole, Margo Timmons (cowboy junkies), Angie Hart (frente!), and Rosanne Cash. Check out the australian band Eva Trout. Female fronted, they are signed to Interscope in the US and have a catchy single out called "The Beautiful South" which has no relation to the band of that name :) The group's sound is catchy and poppy...i'd guess that Crowded House was an influence...kinda reminds me of eleanor mcevoy crossed with the judybats...damn, i just can't pigeonhole them... that's about it for now.... A while back, our own Craig Gidney was kind enough to nab a copy of the CD when he came across it in a used disc bin. Thing is, I almost never listen to the disc, preferring to listen to the tape in my walkman. I happened to be listening to the disc in the car the other day, though, when I realized that the song order was different... now I'd known that there were two versions of the album, with the order of the last 3 songs mixed up ("Spiderdust" gets moved around), but honestly hadn't realized that I had a different disc than the one I'd recorded! The million dollar question is (and I said this would be quick...ha!): which is the original, Bel Canto-sanctioned song order? And who changed it? jeff - -- |Jeffrey C. Around 5 years ago my then-flatmate Sharon used to go busking with Beck Jean, who was just starting her band. Yes, you guessed it, the band was Eva Trout. Since then they've been going through periods of silence alternating with bursts of activity, but managed to stay together and finally record the album: "Along woodland rides, through tunnels of evergreen". It's sold locally by Phantom Records, but they also scored some sort of distribution deal in the US, after receiving some radio play on college stations. Who knows, they might even tour there. If they appear near you, check them out - - they do a very energetic, enjoyable show. The music is, as mentioned, pretty catchy and poppy, acoustic but definitely on the lively rather than introspective side. Beck Jean has a slightly rasping but pleasant and strong voice. - ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jordan: Hey Amy do you love me? Amy: Yeah. Totally.
