Ectophiles? (Sorry for this short notice. Apologies to non-DC Ectophiles for this.) Chris and I are going to be in the DC area and want to know if anything's going on (concerts, kite flying?) that we should be aware of. My wonderful son Adrian and his lovely ladylove Dava are getting married the 27th in Alexandria but we've decided to come earlier and leave later. Here are our plans: We arrive Christmas day at 1:52pm (United flight #610, Washington National) We have nothing planned for Thursday night or Friday. Adrian and Dava won't be available for a get-together so we won't be seeing them until Saturday. Wedding is Saturday, Sunday day we have plans, but not Sunday night. Monday and Tuesday are completely open, except for vague plans to do the Air and Space Museum and hopefully other parts of the Smithsonian during the day. We come back to Chicago Wednesday the 31st. Thursday, Friday and Saturday, we'll be staying at the "Alexandria Courtyard by Mariott" hotel. (703) 329-2323. We haven't yet decided if we'll want to move to another hotel closer to DC for the next 3 days. I hate to ask if anyone wants to get together on such short notice, and during the holidays to boot, but if (hopefully) anyone does, send me e-mail and (just in case we don't see it before we depart) leave a message at the hotel. The room should be in my name, Vickie Mapes. *HUGS* to all! Holiday happies and all that. This was written by Steven Kurtzman. Damn, it was a show I surely would have attended had I been still living in the Bay area... Enjoy, fellow Roches fans-it seems like it was quite a magical night. Between Christmas and New Years is not the time to see shows anywhere, as far as I can tell. The onlyi thing I could dredge up that might interest you is the first of a two night stand by the Cowboy Junkies at the 9:30 Club for $25. Outside of that, your best musical alternatives are to pick up a Washington Post on Friday and see what's happening at the Kennedy Center or scattered churches, universities and museums. You might be able to find some pretty cool, and even free, shows there, especially if you want to hear something classical or ethnic. (My fave for concerts is the Free/Sackler far eastern museum, that often has various intriguing Indian and Chinese concerts.) If the hotel in Alexandria is convenient to a metro stop, then you can get around DC without any problem, and it probably wouldn't be any more convenient to be downtown. I can't get together on Thursday or Friday though, but I may try to give you a call for some of those later dates.
