And I was really disappointed that the performers chose to go almost exclusively with Nyro's hits - songs that have already been covered by the 5th Dimension, Barbra Streisand, and Blood Sweat and Tears, among others. In doing that they have eschewed some of her most wonderful songs, such as "Timer," "Emmie," "The Confession" and that song I can't remember the name of, the one that starts off, "My lover's mouth, been so good to me..." (Can you tell I'm a fan of Eli & the 13th Confession?? :)) I guess someone did do my favorite song from that album, "Poverty Train." Or did they? Can't remember. Well, if that one's not on there, then there's one more song to gripe about! My point being, Laura Nyro's written a lot of great songs that no one's ever heard about, and now they will continue to not hear about them. And meanwhile, do we really need yet another version of Wedding Bell Blues?? I thought a few of you may be interested in recent & future activity updates. All the best, Alan (aka MrBB) 1998 itineraries are still being determined but here's the basic plan in general. January will basically be downtime. Jewel will take a much deserved breather from any major activities other than preparing her book of poetry for publication & possibly some studio sessions. February will primarily be devoted to prep-work for the movie "To Live On" which is scheduled to begin filming in Mid March & will continue off & on for several months. Jewel's Poetry Book will be published & hopefully available by late June or early July 1998. Her new album is now tentatively scheduled for release by Atlantic in late September 1998. That's the basics. Now on to some specifics about other things of interest: Jewel & Lenedra recorded "Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer" (or just "Rudy" as Jewel calls it) along with The Boys Choir Of Harlem. It's a really swinging doo-wop version & you need not wait for that because it's being released now! The CD is called "Tis The Season" by The Boys Choir Of Harlem. It's on Unencumbered/1027th Street Records Label catalogue number 2304-2. The cassette is catalogue number 2304-4. "Tis The Season" is also available as a limited edition 2 record set (featuring an extra disc of TBCOH). The two record set can only be ordered direct & I'll find out that info & pass it on ASAP. The CD & cassette will be available in stores but you can also order that direct as well. Also, speaking of interesting releases, Jewel & Lenedra have become enamored with a South American classical guitarist & amazing singer named Andres Condon. AmyJo & I met Andres in Boston on the Papillon Tour & he's an incredibly nice guy. I haven't the info on his CD but will try to get it for you, soon. You may want to search for it on the web. Both Jewel & Lenedra highly recommend it. And no major update is complete without something mind blowing to include, so here goes......Jewel will perform to the largest audience of her entire career in January. Yep.....She'll be performing The National Anthem at the upcoming SUPERBOWL in San Diego!! ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 3 Dec 1997 21:43:21 -0500 From: Jeff Wasilko Subject: [birdies@ix.netcom.com: Michael Hedges, guitarist, found dead] - -----Forwarded message from Birdie ----- Dear Siblings, Michael Hedges, guitarist, and one of the artists that put Windham Hill Records on the map in the early 80's, was found in his wrecked BMW in beautiful Mendocino County. One can only hope he didn't suffer. alas. i was lucky to see Michael in a special performance during my brief stint at the Berklee School of Music, and it was a magical experience. he was technically proficient at a level that trancended the genres of "new acoustic" or "new age" or "windham hill". even more, he refused to acknowledge the boundaries or those genres, and experimented and grew his music in ways that are rare in the business - -- Happy certainly leaps to mind as another example of the courage to ignore those boundaries... that makes his music ectofare, at the very least. go find a copy of "Aerial Boundaries" or "Breakfast In The Field" or his la(te)st "Oracle" (which includes songs from the Beatles, Zappa, and the theme from "Hatari"!), and think a kind thought for him... - -- greg bossert 650-933-6431 -- - -- gwis, silicon graphics, inc. bossert@sgi.com -- - -- i have never been afraid to change -- Happy -- - -- the circumstances of the world -- Rhodes -- ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 03 Dec 1997 20:45:24 -0700 From: "Larry J.
