Manny's wife works for USAir and they can fly at the drop of a hat. They had sent for tickets to see Rosie O'Donnel's show a long time ago. The letter came-> holloween show-> Manny calls and no hotel rooms in NYC due to Marathon. Then RO'D's show calls,"there's been a change!", and Manny thinks,"uh-oh", but they say that the Marathon is messing up lots of people and instead of fri live they would tape on thursday. Still no rooms, they (Manny etc.) say,"let's do it anyway". They jump on a plane, then into a taxi and get out at the studio and get in line. The ABC pages come down the line and check the postcard they had sent Manny against their list and >then< give out the tickets. They come to Manny and say "I'm sorry but it's two tickets per family," and Manny quickly says," I wasn't planning on going in, I'm just waiting with them until the door opens." The look on the faces of wife an child give it away. There are about 45 people in line and they are listening to all this and Manny sees something in the page's eyes, in reaction to his not asking for any favors, or jumping her case. About an hour later, he is waiting around and the page walks past, does a 360 as tho' she has just thought of it, thanks him for being so nice, shakes his hand and leaves a ticket there. Manny loves 70's music, so when RO'D annouces "The Village People" and they come down the aisle, he jumps up, as do a bunch others, and so is in a close-up with 'The Cowboy'. At the last comm break, RO'D tells all the kids to come on stage when they come back, to ignore the cameras and to tear her desk apart (it is made out of Hershey Bars) and so Samantha is seen on stage. After the show, they jump the taxi, and the plane and end their 14 hr day at home. The next day Samantha is too burnt out to go to school. Time for Rosie!! There are over 100 ABC affiliates and 4 ran the "Nanny Trial" and Syracuse was one of these. Manny called the station, they called NYC to check him out, and arranged for a hi-grade copy to be dubbed to vhs and sent to him. He may sell real estate these days, but no one can say his life is dull!!! KrW "Help me, Mr Wizard!!!" "Drizzel drozzel druzzel drome, time for this one to come home." also:zzkwhite@ktwu.wuacc.edu ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 6 Nov 1997 09:22:00 -0000 From: Bridges Martin Subject: RE: Scarlet I too liked that song. Scarlet are (or were?) a UK-based duo who have released 2 albums. The first, from which that song is taken, received pretty good reviews but never really went anywhere. The second didn't get so good reviews and seems to have sunk without trace. Haven't heard anything about them in a while. It's called "Independent Love Song" by Scarlet. The only CD that I can find that song on is from the very soundtrack where I first heard it. _Bed of Roses_ starring Christian Slater and Mary Stuart Masterson. I am dying to hear more from this group/person called "Scarlet" Does anyone know of a group, or perhaps another name that "Scarlet" is going by? What do you think? And in particular (hey meth), has anyone heard her rendition of Dar Williams' "February". WOW, is all I can say. Joan's version is almost more heartwrenching than Dar's is... Hear's may only have a finite supply of this title, so I wouldn't tarry if you think you might want to buy it. (btw, Hear's is a great little store. I'd call it Tucson's "ecto source." They don't carry the normal lot of music; they only carry "quality" music. I've seen _Rhodesongs_ there. Plus, as Kelly said, you can listen before buying, which really helps toward keeping EWS in check. We have a Border's store here, and the selection is relatively good in terms of quality music, but Hear's is a small specialty shop and I always try there first just out of principle.) The main point I wanted to make in this message is that even tho' you can buy directly from Hear's, what Kelly didn't note was their *shipping* price, which is $3.95 for from one to six CDs. They send it "priority mail" which I think is 2-day air. However, I bought woj a copy of _Tidings_ and sent it to him in a padded envel- ope regular first class for about $1.50. (granted, I didn't charge for the envelope since I can get them from work-hey, I'm worth it :) I sent it out on a thursday and it arrived in Boonton the following monday. So my offer to buy and send it to you still stands-just send me email. BTW, you can also save a little bread over the Hear's price by buying either of the other two CDs via the web page at http://www.mollys.com - (I just wonder, if they happen to be out of town touring whether that might delay shipping it out...) I'm looking forward to their next Tucson show in early December at the Boondocks. I plan to have my CDs autographed at that show. How big is Hear Music, anyway? By big, I don't mean the physical size of the store, but how many of them are there? I know of two in the Bay Area - one's in Palo Alto, and there's another in Berkeley. I agree, it is a great store. They let you listen to anything in the store, and you can hang out as long as you like. They provide a "listening bar" with a stool, and you can bring up a stack of CD's. They'll play them for you while you pore over the CD booklet and read the lyrics or learn about the band, etc. And it is a real ecto source. Folk, interesting rock, singer- songwriters galore, and (at least in Palo Alto - I haven't been to the Berkeley store) an entire room devoted to jazz. Are there Hear Music stores in other cities as well? It's great that other people get a chance to experience an interesting and customer-friendly store such as this, but I hope they don't turn into a big chain. Probably not, since they don't exactly promote the top 10. Joyce ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 6 Nov 1997 18:03:06 -0600 (CST) From: "Mitchell A. Pravatiner" Subject: Lachrimosity redux Last Sunday was All Souls Day, the pagan/celtic day of remembrance for the dead. In consideration whereof, I played "All Souls Night," by Loreena McKennitt. As it happens, a number of good friends on the net were (and for the most part, are) suffering from major illnesses, some of them arguably life-threatening. One was recently diagnosed with hepatitis C, another was awaiting the results of a biopsy for possible thyroid cancer (the nodule turned out to be benign), a third was (and may still be, for all I know, I having heard nothing new in several days) in intensive care with complications of asthma, a fourth faces the latest in a series of major surgeries for what are assumed to be sequelae of Lyme disease--adrenal tumors, kidney stones, most recently a hernia, with fear of cancer never far from her mind. All this morbidity, if not exactly mortality yet, in my circle of friends somehow got to me, and I found myself smoewhat losing it while listening to Loreena. Art interacts with life, as it were.
