Alan ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 1 Nov 1997 12:34:07 -0600 (CST) From: forum@inlink.com Subject: amy rigby... >Amy Rigby did someone mention AMY RIGBY? she rocks. a little bit country a little bit rock and roll (no, no i didn't say that, no allusions to the osmonds, really), amy's album (on KOCH records, a small label and bigger distributor of fine music like JANE SIBERRY'S self released stuff via SHEEBA, and MARY MARGARET O'HARA'S rerelease MISS AMERICA) entitled DIARY OF MOD HOUSEWIFE is excellent. Probably one of the most overlooked albums of the year (1996) it ranked in the Village Voice Pazz and Jop top ten albums. not that that means anything, but people should check her out. some people will list her in the fastly growing (bargain) bin of angry woman rock (ani, PJH, tori, alanis, and their second wave of wannabees, alanis, meredith brooks, leah andreone, alana davis etc) but she probably fits in more with the whole no depression countryrock scene more than anything else (her enstranged husband is WILL RIGBY of the REPLACEMENTS). Her best songs aren't necessarily bitter songs about men, but rather songs about her own life experiences (having a crush on the guy at the bookstore, having to go to work at the corporate office). Similar to a good folk singer, AMY RIGBY knows a good tune, and knows how to write about life. check her out live if you have a chance at the museum of radio and TV in NYC, or check out her album. just the title alone (DIARY OF A MOD HOUSEWIFE) should perk your interest. irvin Forum for Contemporary Art 3540 Washington Avenue St. Louis, MO 63103 314/535.4660 314/535.1226 (fax) forum@inlink.com November 7, 1997 to January 3, 1998 Sabina Ott: Everywhere There is Somewhere ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 01 Nov 1997 12:51:06 -0700 From: "Larry J. Devo did a song or two for _Neuromancer_ in the early 80s. _Fallout_ (which just came out) contains a recording of _Maybe_ by the Ink Spots. _Carmageddon_ has a musical soundtrack by Fear Factory. _Quake_'s sountrack is all original stuff by Nine Inch Nails. _Quarantine_, a forgettable Doom-clone-on-taxi-wheels, contains an excellent 13-track sampler of Australian independent bands (said sampler is why I still own my original copy of the game, and why I have another copy). Supertramp scored one or two of Sierra's _Space Quest_ games. Bands have a long and variegated history of contributing music to computer games. - -- athol-brose -- cinnamon@one.net Who am I, that I should be vying for your touch? ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 1 Nov 1997 14:57:39 -0600 (CST) From: forum@inlink.com Subject: jane siberry 'allo i was wondering if anyone can give me the low down on the new SIBERRY CD's that have been released, recently, both of which i have not heard very much about on ecto. CHILD which was just recently released last week, is the live double album of christmas season music recorded at the bottom line (the first of the trilogy of double albums). and A DAY IN THE LIFE, which seems to be a 29 minute excerpt hodgepodge of stuff. this what i have gathered from www.sheeba.ca and i was wondering if anyone owned these, and can tell me what the story is? are they worth getting? i was a bit dissapointed by TEENAGER though CHILD sounds like it has promise. i just hate doing mail order. it's a mental block to me. i would much rather just pick it up at the store....but it looks like i won't be able to get them there.... just asking. apparently the new CD CHILD was to be sent out autographed by jane herself if you ordered it before october 31st. ah well..... irvin Forum for Contemporary Art 3540 Washington Avenue St. Louis, MO 63103 314/535.4660 314/535.1226 (fax) forum@inlink.com November 7, 1997 to January 3, 1998 Sabina Ott: Everywhere There is Somewhere ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 2 Nov 1997 09:25:03 +1100 (EST) From: Sherlyn Koo Subject: Re: Ulali Hey folks, Neal said: >I saw Ulali a number of years ago at the Smithsonian Folklife Festival. >The focus that year was on Native Americans as well as other stuff I'm >vague on now (Old Believer Russians, I think).
