My friend (a software engineer) is very interested in interactive music, especially transduction of body motion into sounds (musical, preferably). He recognized the name as soon as I said it. Apparently, he had bookmarked their webpage in a former life and couldn't remember the name for a coworker who was interested. He said he had tried a web search and could only come up with Bananarama. Woj, woj, woj. What *are* we going to do with you? If only you were have the sense to actually *read* ecto.... Our own Craig Gidney (you met him at Happy's Required Listening show a few years ago) posted a great review of the Projekt Festival in Chicago back in early July, in which he spoke of their acapella cover of "Sat In Your Lap." For what it's worth, when they played DC back at the very end of August, they repeated the song. Alas, I wasn't feeling particularly well, and the day of the show, decided it would be a bad idea to go. Probably a good decision, as Craig didn't make it home from that one 'til 3am, and that just wouldn't have worked for me. ;-) Still, I've been dreaming about hearing their version for *months*. obHappy: have a gushed yet today about how much I adore Happy's version of "Mercy Street"? It might surpass the original... jeff (who still thinks that ecto is the single best source for cool music info anywhere) ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 4 Oct 1997 01:54:28 -0400 (EDT) From: Neal Copperman Subject: Re: Hooverphonic (or when Belgium produces a composer) On Mon, 15 Sep 1997, Michael J. I was having dinner at some friends' house the other day, and noticed the Hooverphonic disc laying around. WE popped it in, and I found it to be very nice dinner music. Didn't get a good enough listen to have much to add to the conversation. However, Kristine is from Belgium, and she said they had to get it for the obvious reason. I told her about Andrew's comment of not knowing any Belgian performers, and she got very defensive. Tons of great people from Belgium, she claimed. When pressed, her list wasn't so forthcoming though. The first person she thought of was Jaques Brel, but her husband said that wasn't quite where we were coming from. Then she suggested "Pump Up The Jam" by Technotronic! You must have heard that one Andrew. So I guess teh Belgians have produced a strong composer after all :) Her husband suggested Front 242. I didn't realize they were from Belgium, but I checked the only thing I have (A Tyranny for You single), and the address on it is from Brussels. So, if I'm remembering correctly, that ties Delirium to Belgium too.
