It's embarrassing to admit, but I have A&B's phone number memorized: 1-800-663-0596. Their URL is http://www.absound.ca/ The Holly McNarland is pretty spiffy, isn't it? But I can't stand the dog butt picture on the back. Just what is it with dog butts this year? They're everywhere. And Steve, I've just heard the Sarah Slean (thanks Dan!!!) and it's _wonderful_. Tell her tough luck but she does sound like Tori, though--the good news is that she's just as musically inventive as Tori. Also reminds me of a local performer, Mary Lydia Ryan. Damn fine piano work, too. - --Neile At 10:50 AM 9/17/97, NyxNight@aol.com wrote: >I hate to bother the list for a non-musical question, but I was wondering if >anyone had the phone number and URL for A&B (or A&E or A&C.... or A&letter> I can never remember), that music store where one can order Veda >Hille (specifically the Women in (e)motion disc)... and hopefully Holly >McNarland because my copy of Stuff is skipping like a maniac and I just can't >live with this kind of pain. ;) > >Thanks... >-A - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Neile Graham.......http://www.sff.net/people/neile.......neile@sff.net The Ectophiles' Guide to Good Music....http://www.smoe.org/ectoguide - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 17 Sep 1997 12:16:14 +0100 (BST) From: nightwol@dircon.co.uk (Steve Fagg) Subject: Re: June Tabor Heather Russell wrote: > June Tabor will be coming to my area of North Carolina soon, and I was > wondering if anyone had seen her perform, and would they recommend > seeing her live? I've seen her a couple of times, and would definitely recommend that you go. June doesn't put on much of a "show" and is quite a low-key performer, but her concerts tend to draw you in to her music and leave you feeling very satisfied. She tends to be quite informal between songs, and some of her asides while talking to the audience are very sharp. I expect her upcoming US dates will focus on the new album "Aleyn" which has more traditional material than has recently been the case, so the concert will likely have more of a trad. bent too. In short, go! :-) TTFN Steve - -- Steve Fagg (nightwol@dircon.co.uk) http://www.geocities.com/Paris/Metro/1313/ ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 17 Sep 1997 14:18:44 -0400 (EDT) From: NyxNight@aol.com Subject: Re: Veda, sort of... Check out Steve Ito's web page for her and Emm Gryner at http://psych.utoronto.ca/~stephen/tomusic/tomusic.htm I have Emm Gryner's disc and like a couple of songs on it a lot. The rest is a little mainstream pop for my tastes, but I have been obsessing on every song on the Sarah Slean sampler Dan sent me since it arrived in yesterday's mail. - --Neile n.p. Sarah Slean n.r. The most memorable parts seem to me to be where they discuss how their parents turned them on to music, and their liking for the Beatles, several of whose songs they have covered. The story originally appeared in the Baltimore _Sun_, so those who can figure out how to reach that paper's website, if it has one, may be interested in looking up the story. The Sun's website is at www.sunspot.net. But you have to hurry, because their articles expire after 2 weeks, and the Nields story was originally published on the 4th! The exact URL, for those of you who can cut and paste, is: http://www.sunspot.net/sunspot/news/19970904/features/data/ LIV__873280854_211.shtml FYI, Alison Krauss is scheduled to appear on the Tonight Show tonight (Wednesday), and Ani DiFranco is listed among tomorrow's (Thursday) guests on Conan O'Brien (along with Lucy Lawless, for you Xena fans...). - --Sue Trowbridge * albany, california trow@slip.net * www.interbridge.com ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 17 Sep 1997 21:25:24 -0500 From: ariana@kbp.com Subject: Kinnie Starr I listened to Kinnie Starr a few times since yesterday. I am starting to like her. Her music at times does sound like PJ Harvey and other times does sound like the funky side of Ani Difranco or even the poem side of Ani. I played it for my boyfriend on our way to work and part way back. He thought it was PJ Harvey. When I put it on going home he wanted to kill me. He hated it. I think because of a song sung mostly in Spanish. It drove him nuts. So I can't play that album around him anymore. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 17 Sep 1997 20:43:12 -0700 From: "Neil K.
