She recorded the album in 1995 but is wasn't released until 1996 because of label issues (ie IMAGO restructuring). so it's been two years since she has recorded, and it is about time for a new set of material... By the way, there is an most excellent version of her songs I'VE HAD IT by AIMEE (original version on WHATEVER) on the RARE ON AIR 2, the KCRW morning become eclectic compilation. Actually that RARE ON AIR is my favorite out of all three compilations to come out, though they are all great. nearly everyone song on there is fantastic, with a wide range, from CIBO MATTO, to WORLD PARTY and AIMEE MANN and TANYA DONELLY. the first one is pretty good too, with stand outs being the absolute best version of TORI AMOS' SILENT ALL THESE YEARS, that i have heard so far. maybe it is the leonard cohen poem that leads into that makes me like it more. i dunno. the 3rd RARE ON AIR was a bit of a dissapointment, though the cowboy junkie song and the fiona apple song were well done. I could have done without the james taylor song that ended the CD, but i have a bias against said taylor. i blame that on my ex roomate in college that subjugated me to mr taylor 24-7 for an entire year. to get back at him i played traditional Chinese Opera music and PJ HARVEY. It was a love hate relationship that we had. speaking of TANYA DONELLY, anyone have comments on her new album SONGS FOR THE UNDERDOG? i have her CD ep, which was not bad, and i was wondering how good the new album was. the few review that i can find seem to say it is worth checking out, but i always trust ectophiles more than the music rags. And on the topic of ex breeders, THE KELLEY DEAL 6000 came to st. louis a couple of days ago, and they were rockin'. the new material and the new band seemed to jell better, and either her songwriting, or her band made the new material seem much stronger. I have her first album, but i might have to check out her new one BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!. no comment on the opening bands. 'specially since i missed FONDLE and MITCH MITCHEL's TERRIFYING EXPERIENCE had us decide to go and hang out in the restaraunt part of the venue for awhile (and eat salty things) after the first song. yesterday i went to see K'S CHOICE though, with a couple of mediocre San Francisco bands (the VENTS and PROTEIN, with PROTEIN being musically very gifted, but lyrically rather inane, and the VENTS, well i think the phrase PENIS ROCK came to mind). It was a rockin show though, and K's CHOICE are pretty darn energetic. can't do a set list, because i only know two or three songs (a couple from their first album which they didn't pay i don't think, and the single I AM NOT AN ADDICT which they of course played). The lead from PROTEIN had his birthday that day, and the drummer from K'S CHOICE has his birthday today, so the first encore ended with SOMETHING'S WRONG with all three bands singing and playing along. kinda fun, sort of reminded me of when LUSH toured with MOJAVE 3 and SCHEER, and they ended the encore with all three bands singing along to one of the LUSH songs. K'S CHOICE is from BELGIAN am i right? so there you go ANDREW FRIES. at least i think they are. at least it is the BENELUX area. or am i complete making that up? and seguing into LUSH and the fate of that band. with the death of CHRIS, does anyone have any info on the state of the band? i heard rumors that EMMA is touring with TANYA DONELLY? and MIKI is in a side project band with the lead guy from KITCHENS OF DISTINCTION in a band called FRUIT? (album title is HARK AT HER i think) can anyone tell me info on that band? like label name and order number? is it worth tracking down? (hey a collaboration between LUSH and K-O-D sounds very promising). of course ONE LITTLE INDIAN dropped K-O-D after COWBOYS AND ALIENS flopped, so they are now on a small label, under a new shorter name KITCHENS OD. I haven't heard any of the new stuff though, so i need to track that down. has any of this been released in the US? and finally does anyone has comments on the new JEN TRYNIN album (note that she shortened JENNIFER to JEN, much like DEBBIE GIBSON elongated her name to DEBORAH, but in a completely unrelated and different way, which makes me wonder why i made that jump in logic anyway). I noticed the new album floating around in the used bins in San Francisco, but didn't have a chance to hear it. is it better or worse than her first album. i thought her first album showed potential but didn't live up to that. too bad. also any comments on an older release, DAMON and NAOMI's album (ex-Spaceman 3 i think, unless i am completely mixing them up with someone else) would be swell. i keep reading random reviews about the album, even though it was released months ago. is it worth checking out? funny how i keep on reading reviews about OLDER releases. Just read a review about PETRA HADEN's solo album IMAGINARYLAND album. that was released over a year ago, and people are just starting to pick it up i guess (maybe with the slight breakthrough of that dog., and their new wave hit NEVER SAY NEVER she is getting a little bit of attention). lots lots to track down. and little money to do it. any info on money well spent in the right direction would be nice. thank you for your attention. love irvin - ----- NP: FUTURE BIBLE HEROES - finally got it used in SF, my only regret is that i waited so long to hear this fun and bitter album. i would have paid full price for this one. NR: A WILD SHEEP CHASE by Haruki Murakami - rather nice so far. not as way out as A HARDBOILED WONDERLAND AND THE END OF THE WORLD but still rather entertaining and engaging. I think i will like this in the end over his short stories from THE ELEPHANT VANISHES which i finished a couple of books ago.
