I taped SNL (have yet to watch it) and welcome the news that I don't have to watch Joan do that tiresome song (I would love to deconstruct it in ecto some day--it is filled with odd contradictions). But I have always watched SNL, even during the worst years because there has always been one or two skits hilarious. By fast-forwarding I make a 90-minute waste of time into a good 20-minute show. I watch all my TV that way (it takes 2 vcrs to do it right) and so I can stop the tape when the phone rings, skip over bad programs, watch when I feel like it and filter out the comnmercials. Down side: sometimes I get way behind but always watch the oldest tape first. I just finished FF through the post-Xmas sales and will have to FF the Smith/Wyden senatorial pie fights long after one of them becomes our duly elected twit. I also see ads touting the wonderful new movie that has already run its course by the time I see the commercial. Watching TV this way makes me almost as culturally isolated as people who have dumped TV entirely. mp |^^^^^^^^^^Pay no attention fnord to the man behind the keyboard^^^^^^^^^| | | | "Give them a light and | http://www.moonmac.com/~mklprc/ | | they'll follow it anywhere!" | mp@moonmac.com | | --Firesign Theatre | michael_pearce@pmug.org | | | \___No Microsoft products were used in the production of this message.___/ ------------------------------ From: MJM Date: 15 Jan 96 16:16:42 EST Subject: IM I would seriously urge all ectophiles who have as yet not realized the sheer genius in the new Innocence Mission CD (Glow) to listen, and re-listen, and re-listen until they get it. I had a list of Ecto music I was looking for, plus a few singles. First place I went to was Record Runner on Jones Street. I bought "Caught a lite sneeze" from the UK it has London Girls, That's what I like Mick (which is on the us), and Samurai. Later on I found out I over payed. I payed $12. They were selling it for 9.99 at Tower. But it may not be the same. The one I have says its limited edition picture cd single. At Tower I bought Caught a lite sneeze which includes-this old man, hungarian wedding song, and toodles mr jim (UK edition). It was $9.99. I had a list of Ecto artists I was looking for like: Sheila Chandra, Ani Difranco, Aimee Man (sp?), Dar Williams, and maybe a few more. I found 2 of them at tower records, and most of them at Sam Goody. But I am a cheap person. I generally buy cassettes. I only buy cds if they are Tori Amos or Happy Rhodes, or used, or bargain price. With cassettes if it's not Happy Rhodes and it's more then $7.99 I just won't buy it. I rather get the most for my money. Too many times in the past I spent alot of money on music and I hated most of what I bought. I seem to like music better when I buy it this way. :) I also happened to find Ruby at Sam Goody. Since it was $7.99 and it has been suggested I bought it. :) ------------------------------ From: Kerry White Date: Mon, 15 Jan 1996 18:37:01 -0600 (CST) Subject: Re: possible KC gathering? Why *thank* you!! However, I've only *listened* to it 2ce, it may melt me yet. Curious jumped out of the speakers and tatooed itself in my mind's aural retention nodes on 1st listen. I was listening to Tribe and Bel canto before this and was in a certain mind-set. Tribe has several "grabbers" and Bel shimmers warm and brightly in my head, too.
