Another I-Can't-Believe-I-Know-This post... :-) The song David mentioned was "You Spin Me Round (Like A Record)" and it appeared on the band's second album, titled "Youthquake". Production duties were handled by a fledgling Stock, Aitken And Waterman, who many UK and Europe readers will be familiar with. That other big song that Michael mentioned was "Brand New Lover", from their third album. "Lover Come Back To Me" was the other biggie from "Youthquake". One interesting fact about "Spin Me Round" - the vocals in the chorus were recorded on a 24-track machine, then mixed down, sampled, and flown in when needed. Each chorus is identical vocally apart from the lead vocal. It's quite a common technique today with long high-quality sampling time being commonplace in studios, but at the time it was state-of-the-art. Apparently DOA are still recording albums for the Japanese market. - - Anthony - -- - ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Anthony Horan, Melbourne Australia - anthony@xymox.apana.org.au http://daemon.apana.org.au/~anthony/ Physical mail: P.O. That it was finally *finished and released* pleased those involved. Mr Lennon by that time was less than enthused about a Beatle album, and probably just described his physical reaction, ie: he didn't get ill when he heard it. I think they knew what they were getting into when they gave him the tapes. True, I'd have rather the original take of "Across the Universe" been used. Could have been worse, you know. "You know my name" could've made it onto the thing. I keep forgetting :) Anyway, what I would like to know is: What album is the song from? Is it a Sarah CD, or a compilation/soundtrack-type-thing? The reason I ask is that I recently (well, last night actually) heard "I will not forget you" by Sarah McLachlan on our local radio station. (In fact it was on the "Top 30 chart" - at number 24). That was quite puzzling, because they normally only play songs off albums that are released locally. I know that no other Sarah McLachlan CD's have been released locally, so I was wondering if the record stores had finally seen the light (mind you, they did get both Tori Amos CD's, so they aren't *that* bad :), or if it is just a song off some other CD. It was the first (and only) time I heard the song, and I like it very very much. While I'm here, has anyone heard of a group called "Noa" (I think that is the correct spelling)? I heard a song by them a week or so back and it sounded very ecto-ish. Of course, I can't remember what the song title is... I know you've all heard this kind of thing before, but I just wanted to say that Happy's music is incredible. I've always *liked* Happy's music, but I recently rediscovered her music (thanks mainly to a Happy Sampler that Yngve sent me a long time ago), and I am starting to *love* it - it just gets better every time I listen to it. g'bye Robert (harry_ on irc) Robert Stewart (email: csaris@upe.ac.za) Department of Computer Science, University of Port Elizabeth PO Box 1600, Port Elizabeth, 6000, South Africa Tel: +27 41 5042712 Fax: +27 41 5042323 URL: http://www.cs.upe.ac.za/staff/csaris ------------------------------ From: Dirk Kastens Date: Mon, 4 Dec 1995 08:59:21 +0100 (NFT) Subject: Iona Hi, I highly recommend the new Iona album "Journey into the morn".
