The original release date was indeed the beginning of November but it has been postponed until the end of January, I think. And the Little Diva list would be much more busy if the new album has been released, I hope. Here's a brief review of it for those interested : The latest CD Review magazine (Oct. '95) gives Maria's new album an 8 (of 10) for performance, and a 7 for sound quality. Here are some quotes: "After 10 years of making someone else's idea of a record, McKee has been left to her own devices. Her third solo album is both a bewildering and intriguing record, so unconventional in its style and approach that it's difficult to think of a precedent. She hasn't just taken control... practically a one-woman show featuring McKee on vocals, drums, and most astonishingly, playing abudant guitar. ... It may be hard to decipher, but its intensely personal and singular vision is engrossing and unlike any of her previous work." Sounds like Maria's version of "The Dreaming". It will be 3 very long months! - -- Yves. ------------------------------ From: Date: 03 Nov 95 09:28:59 EST Subject: speaking of bjork... + Ferron Review Did anyone see her on Leno last night -- she was frenetic and great! What a trippy girl! Two nights ago I saw Ferron at Park West. It was a real lovefest. I think every lesbian in the tri-state area must have been there, and me. By the end of the show, the women had commandeered the men's room... I heard one saying "ahhh, they'll get over it" as she and a friend forraged their their way inside... it was pretty funny. I like Ferron alot. She carves out a very unique space in the musical spectrum. She's a neat person. I *loved* the way she introduced her band -- a little personal story about each one -- that kind of thing really endears the audience. And the band was good (though the cello was a little too buried in the mix for my tastes). Every time I see one of those electric cello/bass violins, I think it is crippled on something -- a little scary -- violins aren't supposed to look like that. Anyways, she played a variety of songs from different albums. The final song was one I hadn't heard but she it was the one that made her famous -- something about having a heart like a woman, and hands for this and eyes for that. Anyone know what it's called and what album it's on. She played Harmless Love which she said was the song that got Warner to rerelease Phantom Center. I wish she had played more songs from Shadows on a Dime, but did at least 2 -- the title track and the last song (I think). Anyways, a good show, if not a little weird for me due to the audience composition. (Notice I did not say bad, just weird.) - -mjm ------------------------------ From: "jeffrey hanson" Date: Fri, 03 Nov 95 08:51:26 cdt Subject: Minneapolis Jane Concert To all Twin Citiers (and out of towners) planning on going to see Jane Siberry on November 9th--the show has been moved from the Fitzgerald theater to the Fine Line (where its now general admission.) Maybe I'm being presumptuous here, but I for one think it would be nice if Joseph posted a list of the stolen CDs that he is trying to replace. Think about it. Happy, Tori, Kate, etc. were all labeled "geeks" and "nerds", and look at not how popular they are, but how truly creative, and enjoying success from that creativity. I think too often about the "standard" sports player. Once their physical prime is over, that's it for them. Not so with the "nerds" and "geeks": their minds will go on a lot longer than the physical. Or are you actively avoiding me? :-) Seriously, we really should get organized next time and meet ahead of time! Anyway, it was an incredible show... it made me look pretty good too, because now I have a small circle of people who view me as some sort of music god. The last show I dragged them along to was Jewel's! So now they're all die-hard fans of both Jewel and Heather. It was really kind of cool getting the "unplugged" thing, but I was disappointed she finished so early. I was also lucky enough to be able to catch Heather's earlier performance at 102.1 The Edge... it was really cool being able to hear Heather play with practically no amplication... just the pure, unaltered sound of her vocals, acoustic guitar, and cello. Afterwards I talked to her (as she signed my CD *grin*) and said it was too bad about her band, and she said she was still really mad about that. But I really did like her unplugged set, I thought it worked really well, even if at times, I missed the extra instrumentation. Thanks for the thought! I actually, and intentionally, haven't attempted to catalog what I lost. I'm sort of trying to start again, and figure that what doesn't come to mind probably isn't worth either heavily mourning or trying to replace. Much of what I lost was rather obscure -- I doubt that much by, say, John Cage or Ornette Coleman shows up in the cheap used bins -- much of the rest is stuff I do see here in the $5 bins kinda often (if I ever get around to replacing the Meatloaf discs, it shouldn't be that hard) and some of the rest, like the autographed Happy and Sarah discs, meant more to me for the attachments I had to them than for the physical objects themselves. A lot of what I've been through in the past year or so has involved stripping myself down to zero in various ways, recalibrating, and rebuilding. That this involves more of my physical belongings than I had planned is disappointing, but not as much of a blow as it might have been. One think that struck me a while back (when I realised that my colete Happy collection was gone (I've since replaced some of it)): I originally joined ecto since the conversation connected me with her wonderful music; nowadays I mostly listen to Happy because the music connects me to ecto. *hugs* to all. - ---------1---------1---------1---------1---------1---------1---------- |||/ Joseph Zitt ==== jzitt@humansystems.com ===== Human Systems \||| ||/ Organizer, SILENCE: The John Cage Mailing List \|| |/Joe Zitt's Home Page\| ------------------------------ From: Steve VanDevender Date: Fri, 3 Nov 1995 23:49:16 -0800 Subject: Re: Ariane Behrend writes: > >Will you support this petition to get the French nuclear tests stopped? > > > >Just add your name to the end of this numbered list and forward on to as > >many people as possible.
