To describe and type the music that we love, the term "ectophilic" was coined. But is this word limited strictly to defining music? Is there anything else that can be described using this adjective? For instance, ectosynchronicities might be thought of as ectophilic time. Another ectophilic time might be in being "suspended in gaffa" at a concert by Sarah or Tori. What else? Can a location be considered ectophilic? Where might such an ectophilic location be? Anything else? As has been mentioned before, John Brunner passed away after a massive stroke. We saw him the day before his death, and one of his novels was resting on my bedside table. We were lucky to meet him on earlier conventions, and apart from being an excellent writer, he always appeared to be a genuinely charming and whitty person. We'll be missing him. While on this sad subject, can someone confirm that Michael Ende also died a couple of days ago? On to more ectoish matters. We spent a wonderful festival day in Edinburgh with Ectophile David Lindsay (thanks Dave), met Swedish Ectophile Tommy (hope you've returned safely) at the convention and talked a bit with author and Happy fan Charles de Lint. Got his "The Ivory and the Horn" (the book with the Happy quote) and queued up for the signing. Had no idea the man was that popular! I guess Sarah McLachlan T-shirts also count, so let me mention that I was approached by a canadian waitress while having dinner in a mexican restaurant, who spottet my Sarah T-shirt and was eager to know if Sarah might be touring Britain at this time. Later, at the convention, I saw two more Sarah T-shirts! Well, one of them was a Sarah+Ginger tour shirt, but didn't have a chance to talk to the people who were wearing it. Again we noticed what a small world it is. Arriving in Edinburgh, Claudia met one of her former collegues, while I met one of mine at the convention. This is just to let you all know that The Old Ways is on the move - the list went down yesterday, and will hopefully re-appear on or around 10 September, if all goes according to list-owner Christian Walters' plan. He's changing jobs and moving house, that's why. So you can't send mail to the old addresses anymore! I'll post the new address here as soon as it's known. As for Loreena live, I've never seen her yet, but I've heard some live performances and even those are totally enchanting. I think the live sound could well be compared with the sound on the CD, and like Jeff said, her voice is probably even better. I can't wait until she makes it to the Netherlands! The term ectophilic implies music, I think, since that's what this list has in common. GEnie is literally connected with Kumbaya, and they have a free section of the service to discuss the festival. PLUS, tomorrow from 5:00 PM EST until whenever there will be an RTC (Chat Session) going on, and every single one of the artists above (including Jane, Rebecca Jenkins, Sarah, and Holly Cole) is expected to stop by for at least a few minutes throughout. The only catch is, you have to be a GEnie member to participate. However, if you act now you can get a trial membership set up with 5 free hours to take part! For info, either call (800) 638-9636 or check out http://www.genie.com for all the details on both the Kumbaya thing and how to get up on GEnie. All you need is comm. software, so anybody can do it for the weekend. There are access numbers all over North America. Gads, you can tell I'm at work -- I sound like a freaking commercial. :} Anyway, I'm not connected with GEnie or Kumbaya at all except as a member of the former and wishful attendee of the latter. Luna Park is in West Hollywood, 310 area code, which might make a difference in checking--operators are not the smartest people around and, I've found, are very lazy when trying to find phone numbers and are not given SPECIFIC information. Anyway... Don't have a telephone #, but I know it's on Robertson JUST south of Santa Monica Blvd (like several doors south). I believe if you take 405 north, exit Santa Monica east, and make a right on Robertson, you should be right there (a Thomas Guide will also show you specifically. There's a restaurant on the southwest corner and a coffee house on the southeast corner of R & SM Blvds.) Luna Park looks like a big house on the outside. There's a restaurant in the front portion, a bar in the middle with a stage in back and another stage in the basement. Preferred seating is always given to those who eat there, $9.99 - $15.99 for meals, but you can always do soup/salad if you're on a budget. Both stages are small, tho', so there really are no bad seats. Sometimes it does go standing-room-only, so if you want to rest the feetsies having dinner is a good idea. Try the operator again with West Hollywood as the city--you should have better luck. Have fun! Well...guess great minds do think alike. When I finally heard all of Happy's albums and saw her range, I did think that she would have been great for the vocals on that album. I saw Vollenweider and Gilkyson on the last tour, and it was just breathtaking. I took a friend who'd never heard of Vollenweider and he came away a true fan. Eliza was wonderful, as were the rest of the band. And Walter Keiser, the drummer/percussionist, did the MOST amazing solo I've EVER seen--even blew Phil Collins/Chester Thompson away, and I think they're two fabulous drummers. I guess I've not been on the list long enough to have seen any threads regarding the above...oh well.
