I think the CD you are looking for is "Songs from Liquid Days". Unless you've heard it already... "Songs..." has Glass's keyboard wizardry with featured vocalists, among them Linda Ronstadt and The Roches... lyrics for the disc were provided by such luminaries as David Byrne, Laurie Anderson, and Paul Simon. It's not all instrumental so I'm not sure if that's the organ piece you heard.. but if you haven't heard "Songs..." pick it up, it is quite a good collection of music (especially the title track sung by The Roches ) Amy ------------------------------ From: brage@sphere.home.id.dtu.dk (Jens P. While I'd rather listen to Mishima or the stuff Kronos did, Glassworks was my first PG disc and can be perfect for the right day and right mood. The instrumentation doesn't have the warmth of the string quartets, but when I'm in the right mindset, the subtly shifting textures behind all the motion can be transporting. It's only on rare occasions that I break through the dizzying top layers, but when I do, I find a calm amongst the motion that is unlike any other music I've heard. Unfortunately, that perfect Glass mindset has only hit me about 3 times in the last 9 years. Before, during, and after his two stints in Steeleye Martin Carthy has enjoyed a long and highly regarded solo career from 1966 to the present day. He has made countless albums in that time. Several of his early records were made with Dave Swarbrick (later in Fairport). Maddy guests on one track of his "Shearwater" album. His stuff is, however, very much more folk than folk rock. June Tabor has made a string of excellent solo albums, including (as Neile has commented) one with the Oyster Band that is a great Folk Rock record. Steeleye were one of my all-time favourite bands and they made some great records, though I find the albums in my group (3) above pretty disposable. Decidedly pop in musical style, but a full, rich, deep voice, and somewhat enigmatic, introspective lyrics. She writes her own songs, so that's always always always a plus.... I'm wondering about her other efforts, as I'd think they're at least worth a listen. In the liner notes, it says that "Ancient Heart" is also available, but its not listed in cdconnection.com's database any more (nor is the sweet keeper), but "Lovers in the City" ('95) is. Anyone know anything else abot Tanita Tikaram? On a general note, does anyone have any online "CDs In Print" type of databases? Will anyone volunteer to fill out info on their discs? The stuff we need includes label, catalog #, availability (meaning if it's easy or hard to find & where), musicians involved, producer, and of course any comments you wish to offer. If anyone wants to offer to do this for Blur, we have several comments on _Parklife_ that otherwise will appear without any other info on the band. As they're less in the ecto mainstream I'm not so concerned about including then as I am Heidi Berry and Maire Brennan--but there are plenty of non-ectoish bands included. Of course, if anyone else is interested and has time to help up put comments together into our format, we would greatly appreciate any help. The more people we have, the less work it is for everyone. Anyone know anything else abot Tanita Tikaram? Hello, Ancient Heart is her first album and though I have it I haven't listened to it in a while...your mail got me to thinking about it again. I like Ancient Heart very much - two songs especially: Ancient Heart and Twist in My Sobriety. Those two were the big singles off the album and you might remember hearing them. As far as I know, Tanita Tikarum has had at least 3 albums out: Ancient Heart, The Sweet Keeper and another one that I can't remember the name of but could look up for you if you can't find it elsewhere. Well, after many comments from the list (and you know who you are!!;-)), I decided to purchase The Nields' _bob on the ceiling_ for full price (as a collective "No, Really?" is said by the list). Well, first and second impressions are favorable. Since I didn't have time to listen to it last night after I got home, I decided to wait until this morning when I can listen to it on my CD-ROM drive at work, and not be disturbed. It's good. Really good. Granted, for me it doesn't rank up there with _the mask and mirror_, or suddenly, tammy!, but it's also not the lowest of this years purchases. Maybe I'll just have to let it grow on me a little more. I do like their rendition of Sinead's "Black Boys on Mopeds". Faithful to the original, but original enough to tell it apart from Sinead's version. Wonderful two part harmony, and their song writing is wonderful as well. I definitely do recommend them, and all (well, almost all ;-)) praises from the list hold true. Actually, I'm listening to it now for the third time. I guess it is growing on me... ...but then again, so does fungus ;-)... Oops, where did that cynicism come from? Definitely not from me. Gads, I crack me up sometimes.
