Local band Sojourn played a small set tonight, hopefully in the process obtaining a record contract. They certainly deserve one! This is a band ectophiles might enjoy. They have a lead singer (female) who plays a nice acoustic 12-string, a keyboad player who sings backup (and probably writes the songs), an excellent bassist who sings as well, and an extra keyboard, guitar, and drums(six people on stage). Now for the hard part - description of the music! The closest I could come on an early try might be a touch of 10,000 Maniacs, a touch of October Project (but much mellower), and a touch of Yes. But mostly Sojourn. They write beautiful melodic songs with interesting and unexpected chord progressions. They were absolutely delightful. Their final encore was a stunningly done cover of Yes' "Your Move" (from The Yes Album). If any of you get the chance to hear this band, I think you might enjoy them! As might be expected, Susanne is not doing much glamour work these days, just routine business. BtC continues to sell, and orders are coming in. But the Big News is the immanent release of a new AG ambient album, to which Happy has contributed three tracks. Kevin also has some work on this. Release is tentatively set for the end of July, and a more detailed press release will follow shortly. All is well up in Woodstock. H&K are doing fine and are happy, and there may be a second ambient release shortly after this one. Happy is not as yet working on a new album as BtC is still active out there. So that's the News from AG for now. Watch this space for details as they become available! The Dolby influence on BO/LO was really striking, though I'm sure I never would have thought of it on my own. It wasn't Ability to Swing that it brought to mind, so much as Hot Sauce, Ferrari, and the other funkier Dolby efforts on the album. (There's this sort of funky vwooop sound that seems to span all these songs.) The other pleasent surprise was that I enjoyed the Dolby tape a lot more than I remember liking it. I'd still throw my vote in for Flat Earth as his best (of what I've heard), but there were lots of fun moments on Aliens. And the associated concert was a blast! Last night, my wife and new son came home. It was great seeing them both after 5 days of being absent. All is well. Since Aaron was born, he's gained 6 oz, so he's growing normally! Last night/this morning was also "typically" newborn. He was up most of the night, and my wife must have fed him twice. Since he's nursing, I really can't be much help, except to coo him back to sleep. However, I attribute his sleepnessless to a new environment. I believe (or hope:-)) that once he's used to his new home, everything will be okay. I sure don't want what my sister-in-law is currently getting. Her two-month-old only sleeps maybe two hours during the night. Yuck! Thanks to all those who sent their well-wishes. It was definitely needed, and much appreciated. Maybe now I'll have time to break down, and let all the emotion out. Side note: the suddenly, tammy! debut on spinART definitely holds a special place for me now. I'm going to start a "time-capsule" for Aaron, and put things of significance in it for his birth year. I'll have to go out and get another copy of this for this time-capsule, and explain it to him when I give it to him later. I've been collecting Batman comics for awhile now, and have issues back to the '60s. I definitely like Val as Batman better, but can see the point where Michael would be a better Bruce. However, I do feel a stronger Batman would definitely be better than a strong Bruce. Unfortunately, they introduce Robin in this one. I'm one for a solo Batman. The comic _Legends of the Dark Knight_ is - for me - the best Batman monthly comic. Ah well, sorry to get so far off topic. Once again, thanks to all for the best wishes. Unbeknownst to me (at the beginning)... I auditioned for My Scarlet Life about a month ago - Preston and Julie (Shreiber- one of the vocalists) were running a few musician-wanted ads in the local paper and I answered one of them. To make a long story short - I didn't make the cut - one of the reasons being (speculating here) that I didn't know anything about Big Hat (except that they had been mentioned on ecto) when I walked into the audition - I didn't even know who I was dealing with - I just thought they were two very interesting people - and Preston's place is like nothing I've ever seen - but in a really seedy neighborhood. They *said* they liked the two songs I played for them, and that I had a good voice, but I know in my heart that I just don't have that much stage experience and I am not in a position to quit my job and go on tour (not yet at least). And so it goes.... As of last week - Preston was still running an ad in the paper looking for a singer..... oh well.. He and Julie both said that their previous singer (in My Scarlet LIfe) was "too difficult to work with" so that's why they are looking for a new one.
