Not that I've heard it or even knew it existed before reading about it here. I loved "Gossamer Axe" a whole lot, "Strands of Starlight" less so, and I currently own "Dragon Death" but haven't read it yet, having found the first two appropriately disturbing. The woman I spoke with liked Shiela Chandra, Paula Cole, Loreena McKennitt, Sarah, Tori, Joni Mitchell, Jane Siberry, and also confirmed the preference for the pre-dark-side-of-the-moon stuff for Pink Floyd. She also recommended Shawn Colvin, Blue Nile, and They Might Be Giants, of which I've only heard briefly on the radio and don't remember. Contrary to what some of the postings here have indicated, she didn't think that _On The Way Down From The Moon Palace_ was no longer available, but then she didn't look it up to order, since they had *A* copy already (but not anymore :) I mention them, because they seem so cool. The easiest way to get there is by telnet--pretty much any of you that WOULD be able to connect with it have telnet. There are specific mud/mush client packages, but you don't NEED them to get tothe room, so I'm not going to go into them. If someone else wants to handle technical support for mud clients, that would be cool. Anyway, even some telnet clients work differently, the main difference being telling the client what port t oconnect to. CONNECTING TO PORT 4201 IS CRITICAL. If you telnet to the system without specifying 4201 you will be telneting into the regular vax system, and unless you have a student account at Case Western Reserve you aren't going to get too far. :) You should get the login banner, which gives you the logon options. In a MUSH you control a character--you give it its name, its description, you walk around the mush, you pick things up, read things, look at things, go different direction, and talk to people. When you first log on you need to create a character for yourself. So you do this: create BillyBudd Melville This will create a character named BillyBudd and he will have the password Melville. You wil lthen proceed down the newbie trail, which will tell you some of the basic mush commands and help you get a little set up. Once you are done with that you should enter a description for your character. Do it like this: @desc me=Billy is handsome and honest, b-b-b-but don't ask tough questions. now if people do look BillyBudd they will see that description. Next, you can walk around a mush by taking the exits it lists for each room. If where you are going is far away, going there room by room can be a pain in the butt. To get around that there is a command to teleport to a room. the ecto mush room is #68340 To get there do: @tel #68340 @tel is the teleport command, and #68340 is where you want to go. Make sure to use the @ and the # signs in your command, and copy the spacing exactly--there should be no space between @ and tel and # and 68340. You will appear in the ecto room. So you don't get lost, there are no doorways to outside of the ecto area, except for a couple of things that are part of the general area. There are a couple of signs there for you to read. You can look at any object by doing: look the < > mean fill in the blank with the object name, such as sign. DO NOT TYPE < and > Also, you need to type enough of the name for the mush to tell which you mean. For example, if there is a Red Sign, a Blue Sign, and a Yellow Sign, typing look sign won't get you too far. look yellow sign will tell you what the yellow sign says. There are 4 exits in the ecto room, only one of which is visible. That is the anteroom. To get there type anteroom once you are in the ecto room--that won't get you there if you are still in the login! In the anteroom is a receptionist that will take any messages for me, so if I'm not around and you have a suggestion, comment, complaint, etc. just leave it with her. When you walk in she'll give instructions on how to work with her. (Yes, on a mush you can create fake people that can do things.) The other exits aren't visible. They are a separate room for fte, rdt, and old-ways, and fans of those artists. When you do look ecto room when you arrive in the room you'll see that there are wall-sized posters of Tori, Sarah, and Loreena. These are actually exits from the ecto room that lead to the other rooms I mentioned. To get in the sarah room, type sarah. For tori, type tori. For loreena, type loreena. You can leave the rooms and get back to the ecto room by typing ecto room. I can add rooms for other artists, just leave a message with the receptionist. The other thing you have to do is: @link me=here This will make the ecto room your home on the mush. That way if you decide to explore the mush more, you can type home and get get back to the ecto room if you get lost. Btw, when I say type whatever, I mean type whatever and hit return. Wouldn't want anyone to be sitting there for half an hour staring at connect Me Password with the cursor blinking at the end of the line. jason ps. Judging by your list of other >favorite artists, I think you'd get into them, too. Thanks for the info! I'll *have* to get the Lemon Kittens! Do you have lyrics, info, etc? What do they sing about? I think I have everything by Danielle except the first Lemon Kitten album, there were two. My favorite CD is "Jesus Egg That Wept" that was released in 1984 on Awesome Records. The six cuts on this album highlight the genius of Danielle Dax at her best. Evil Honkey Stomp is a masterpiece of creativity that juxtaposes an unusual modern guitar piano rhythm with an old boogie woogie rift. The result is a wonderful new creation with just a hint of something old and familiar, but barely recognizable. This arrangement is actually built on top of a tape loop from an old honkey tonk track Jukebox Boogie . The theme of the song itself is racial bigotry, and is blended so well with the musical arrangement and the incredible vocal capability of Danielle. "Pop Eyes" released in 1983 was Danielle's first album after leaving the Lemon Kittens. The art work you mentioned was created by Danielle but her record company at the time refused to use it. Most of the artwork on her early stuff was done by Holly Warburton including the "Dark Adapted Eye" art work you mentioned. I think the Lemon Kitten material is interesting, but primitive compared to what Danielle produced as a solo artist. She was kind of serving her apprenticeship for her future work. Speaking of future work, I think its been close to 5 years since Danielle released "Blast the Human Flower". Anybody hear any recent news? About the only thing memorable about them was a guitar player's "Charlie Brown" design (zig-zag) t-shirt, plus the fact that that same guy had cut-offs on, and had healthy-looking calves on his legs. When the main thing I remember is a guy's legs (and I was with a date! :-), you can assume the band wasn't all that spectacular. I don't really see what Kirsty must see in them, but I better be nice... *There isn't much seating at the Double Door, so we stood up. It wasn't *too bad, since we were right up front. [...] The GAMH is set up with tables on either side of a center dancing area, so once Kirsty came on, the center area filled up with enthusiactic fans, many dancing around (like me when I couldn't stay in my seat). Ther are balconies along the perimeter, so there was actually lots of room to get a good view. We were spotted by Mr. Punctuality, Ed Suranyi, who of course had already staked out a primo table. Thanks for inviting us to share your table, Ed! *Kirsty was wearing the coolest Cab Calloway T-shirt! [...] Last night she wore a dress, which I guess is somewhat rare for Kirsty. It was a pinkish, flowery design, with a short skirt. She had black leggings on, whatever you call those things. She remarked that she was treating us by wearing a rare dress tonight, but that she felt kind of like she was in drag... hee hee... (you don't wanna know what I thought to myself after quickly surveying the SF crowd at that point) *Kirsty played in front of a fairly small, but highly enthusiastic audience. *She seemed very at ease and energetic at the same time. Pretty much the same here. The audience was, I was told, 300 out of a capacity 500. To me, however, it seemed that Kirsty took a few songs to warm up. It looked to me at times that she didn't feel all that comfortable in a dress. PLEASE PLEASE, THAT WAS NOT INTENDED TO BE SEXIST, OK??? !! Just my obser- vation, along with the coulple of comments she made during the evening. But soon enough, she was hot to play, and play she did: 6-string, 12-string, harp, bass, I never knew! :-) *After the show we did get a chance to meet her downstairs, [...] After this show, she came back out after about 15 minutes to sit and sign whatever people had to give her. There had been a few "flats" of the _Galore_ album cover (described at first glance by my boss as a "Patsy Cline" pose :) All in all, a splendid show. And a memory for a lifetime.
