I know the feeling...! I'm just about to plough through 500+ EctoMessages after having spent the last two weeks settling in to my new abode. Yup, I've moved house, or to be more accurate, from a house to an apartment. I'm now in South Melbourne, and if I open my window and yell, they hear me in the central city :) Searching for a house in the middle of the biggest rental slump in 10 years took almost five weeks, moving took a few days and a big physical toll, and only now are things getting back to normal. So if I owe anyone here a tape or CD (and I know I do owe a few), feel free to give me a gentle prod - I'm still getting things back into a semblance of order. For those who get in touch with me outside of the email jungle, my P.O. Box address in Malvern will still be around at least for another year, but things get to me faster if addressed to me at my new location: Apartment 13, 33 Southbank Boulevard, South Melbourne 3205, Victoria, Aust. My new phone number is +61 3 645 8565, and as of May/June when Melbourne numbers go 8-digit, it'll be +61 3 9645 8565. EctoFile compilers, make the changes! :) Once I finish digging through the mail mountain, I can tell you all about me interviewing Loreena McKennit while she struggled with Bronchitis, about how Heather Nova blew out two interviews so far, about stagediving at the Cranberries gig the other night (no, not me!) and much more. :-) - -- - ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Anthony Horan, Melbourne Australia - anthony@xymox.apana.org.au Physical mail: P.O. Joe is Joe Del Tufo, who may or may not be on Ecto himself (I think, actually, he may be an RDT customer, but just in case, hiya Joe); he writes for a New York magazine called Big Shout, and after I sent him Margot's CD, he not only wrote a nice review of it, but asked me to tee up an interview with her, which I did. He paid for the phone call, and Margot found her first international interview extremely enjoyable; the resulting article would have been printed in the last few weeks (actually, anyone who knows of this mag who can track me down a copy wins... something!). Joe passed the CD onto Dave Allen at World Domination (Dave indeed did do time in Shriekback, and also Gang Of Four; he also did some production and engineering work in the early 80s in the UK) who liked it enough to ring Margot personally and chat for ages; she's sent him the latest batch of demos and awaits his response. So she's not signed yet, but believe me, the second it happens, you'll know about it. :) Signing to a US label is a logical step for Margot, as most of the interest in her music has come from the US. Neal, there's a copy of Margot's album in Brash's here in Melbourne in the sale bin for $5 - want it? - -- - ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Anthony Horan, Melbourne Australia - anthony@xymox.apana.org.au Physical mail: P.O. Been lurking to see what's been going on, and am glad to hear that Ecto: The Missing Months is available thru the home page if not thru ftp. I was ectoless for so long. At first it felt good---much less crazed spending in the music outlets. But before long I felt so, so...out of it. So Bob-less. Re the query on what Victoria Williams to get next. I must admit (and it's difficult in this venue) that, though I liked last year's tribute, and have seen Victoria lately and like her current stuff and style okay, I found "Happy Come Home" so unlistenable I yanked it out of my player while uttering unrepeatable oaths before getting to the end of side 2. So I would say, just because you like "Loose"...well, perhaps it's all a matter of just getting used to her, but she was very very twee back then. Of course, mileage varies. And a question based on the recent Richard and Linda Thompson discussion. Linda's "One Clear Moment" recording is indeed wonderful, though I bet it's hard to find. Did she ever record after that? It's been so long. Maybe she did work in Britain that never made it over here. I kept hoping she'd do more, but I never saw any more of her outside of her showing up on a country music awards show, as the Emmylou-Dolly-Linda R. "Trio" record covered one of the songs from her album. There were so many more burning questions back in the dark months, alas, but that was then and this is now. Nice to see so many new names going by. - --Paula ------------------------------ From: Chandra Lekha Sriram Date: Wed, 8 Mar 1995 11:13:54 -0500 (EST) Subject: fun new stuff, and a query ok, anyone who has not gotten the new annie lennox ep, "no more i love you's" should run right out and get it. it is super fabulous, both the title song and her rendition of "ladies of the canyon". not to mention love song for a vampire, which i have become tired of listening to the entire dracula soundtrack just to get to. got the indigo girls ep for power of two, and it is pretty good, although i think mystery suffers by not having backing vocals (jane, where are you?). still looking for the jewel cd--any advice for the princeton area? or boston, since i'll be there soon? incidentally, any little ectophilic concerts i should know about coming up in boston this weekend? i'll be visiting and probably bored stiff (well, not really). tralalalala chandra "the sun will come out the day after tomorrow, haha" --lisa germano ------------------------------ From: John Relph Date: Wed, 8 Mar 95 9:45:17 PST Subject: re: Cocteau Twins mostly, with some FSOL bits >> Liz Frazier also turned up on "Peace Together"... right? or am i losing it >> even for me? > >You're not losing it :-) She sings the remix of the title track, with a very >distant Sinead O'Connor in the mix as well. She puts Sinead, Feargal Sharkey >and Peter Gabriel, who sing the other version, to shame. I'll second this opinion. There's just enough Sinead in the remix (singing "Children be still") to satisfy me, and the remix is much more interesting than the pedestrian original version with Mr. Gabriel sounding singularly uninspired. (And since Robin Guthrie did the remix, it's close to being a Cocteau Twins song.) Other great tracks on that compilation include Curve & Ian Dury doing Dury's "What a Waste", My Bloody Valentine covering Louis Armstrong's "We Have All the Time in the World" (suprisingly straightforward). Only a couple of losers on the compilation overall. But here's the US$2.99 question: does anybody like the video for the Twins' "Bluebeard?
