Well, looks like I'm going to be here a lot more from now on. Seems our little vegetarian/animal rights debate last week is causing some friends to leave, which in turn might bring up the unsubscription debate again, which will cause a flamewar, which will cause more people to unsubscribe, which will eventually thin the FTE list out to... nobody. So here I am, stuck for a topic and afraid to bring old FTE topics over here, for fear it'll bring the flamewars with it. Is the lag time on #ecto usually that bad? Other than that, it looks like I've found a place to exist on irc, which is usually an ircsome place to be, no one (sane) to talk to, no way to ask newbie questions, etc. Well, anyway. I just needed to get away from FTE for a while, see whether or not someone will fan flames, hope and pray it settles down enough that I can start actually making discussions and conversations there again. | John Shepard IUPU Columbus, Indiana | | The opinions expressed above are my own, and some of the facts too | | An Amiga owner and a Sarah McLachlan fan... I thought the list had evaporated, good to hear it hasn't. I lurked on the list for quite some time in the past but never actually made it to any of the shows due to other world conflicts. I am looking to catch some good shows in the area and was wondering if anyone had any show dates that might be worth catching. I looked through the recent archives but didn't see any dates. It does seem that I have missed a lot of good concerts as I don't read the papers or watch TV much. I do have a group of people from work who are willing to try anything and attend concerts they know nothing about. I would like to turn them onto some good music of the variety found in ecto. Sorry for the Newspaper like columns, but I found my mailer inserts many extra carriage returns if I go all the way to the end of a line like this and then send it to some lists. Lets see how this works. Any Recommendations?? Thanks a lot in advance. Maybe she had a bad night on Letterman or Leno when I saw her, who knows. Anyway, I decided to give her a second chance when I found a promo copy of Loose (with 5-6 songs on it) while raiding the used CD shops with Woj (or is that woj?). Well, color me impressed! After the short CD ended, I found myself longing for more, so I picked up Loose on a recent shopping trip and was duly impressed by her (as well as the neat CD-case & booklet). If posters don't exercise at least some consideration over what to post where, then it becomes impossible for readers to choose what they read by forum. > Steve, what bothers me is that if you do it (and you've been around forever!) > then someone else will think...well, it's ok then....and then someone else > and someone else and someone else....NO WAY! When Collins replaced Gabriel, everyone was amazed at how much he sounded like Gabriel (at least it seemed so at the time). When Hackett left, well... Many fans of the earlier band (myself included) feel that this is when the band died. Starting with "And Then There Were Three" they were a different band. The diehard fans will accept Mary singing for 10K Maniacs. They already know John and Mary. But the general public? It remains to be seen. Remember, Natalie wrote a substantial amount of their material and the sound is bound to change. Which may be for the better, IMHO, but the marketplace generally doesn't like a changing sound. ________Paul Cohen________________pmcohen@netaxs.com________________________ Philadelphia, PA http://www.netaxs.com/~pmcohen/ ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo talk: pmcohen@slip-91.netaxs.com ------------------------------ From: "Robert I. "Treasure" is by no means conventional - it's just the benchmark Cocteau Twins album for many of those who discovered their music during the 80s, the album where they broke away from the inaccessibility of the first two albums to create something truly magical and special. It's a beautifully realised album, and defines what the Cocteau Twins are all about. "Four Calendar Cafe" and "Heaven And Las Vegas" are good, too, but there was a mystique captured on "Treasure" that they've never quite been able to reproduce. - -- - ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Anthony Horan, Melbourne Australia - anthony@xymox.apana.org.au Physical mail: P.O.
