Well, not exactly.... If anyone wants me to pick them up a copy of "Shiva Diva Doo Wop", the official Jewel bootleg tape, let me know before next Wednesday. The tape contains four songs, She Cried, Painters, A Thousand Miles Away, and My Own Private Gods Gift to Women. ALl but the last one is just voice and acoustic guitar, and MOPGGtW has a band on it. THey have the sound quality of a decent bootleg, a bit hissy but definitely listenable. I think the songs are all excellent, and none of them is on her upcoming album. SHe mentioned they had only made 750 copies of this tape, so they won't be widely available for long. They cost $5 a piece, and another dollar for me to mail them. Since the second side is blank, I'd probably put some more music on just for fun (unless people want them untouched). In short, I moved out. I'm living on the east side of Milwaukee near the college and more importantly, very near the famed Brady Street area. You can find anything you want and pretty cheaply. They cater to the college age crowd, of which I am a member. I'm rambling. I know that, but it's my dime. Sorry, that came of too snotty. Pardon my dark side. ;) Anyhow, I entered a store called Earwaves, a store that deals in the musically hard to find and at prices that can't be beat. I was looking through their promotional CD's for sale and I found Eddie Reader among them. I've heard a lot of talk about her both here and on a.m.a-f. So I decided to pick it up. And for only $2.95!!!! A full length CD for $2.95!!!It seems to be a self titled first release. It has Joke (I'm Laughing) on it, so you be the judge. If I've got the wrong idea, please enlighten me, as the CD came without the cover sleeve booklet doo-hickey thing. This is beautiful stuff. What a bargain. I also spotted a Jewel 6 song CD there too. With all the attention she's been getting lately on the list, I'll have to give her a try too. Yet another in a long list of reasons I hang out here. Another fine addition to my music library thanks to my good friends on Ecto. Thanks a lot all. Oh by the way, I've recently been getting into the "Three Colors" films. I rented "Blue" and "White" and I will soon be seeing "Red when it opens at thew nearby theater next week. I was a little let down by "Blue". I can't put a finger on it, but it intrigued me enough to check out the others. So I rented "White". I absolutely loved this movie and I eagerly await the third film and the end scene that ties Them all together. Well, that's all for now. Bye all. I think the 10 CD box is pretty awesome, but then again, I like the Cocteau Twins a LOT. It contains 8 EPs, the "Iceblink Luck" single (which contains two unreleased songs from the _Heaven or Las Vegas_ sessions, one of which is a must-have) and a disk of rare things (two unreleased tracks, an instrumental "Oomingmak", and the CT track from the infamous "Lonely is an Eyesore" compilation). Each EP is between 10 and 15 minutes long, and some of them -- notably "Lullabies" -- aren't available on CD elsewhere. Even with the one EP I can't stand ("Peppermint Pig", which was produced by someone else) and me paying $60 for it (you can find it for much less), I thiink it was a great deal. YMMV. - --r. ------------------------------ From: "R. N. Dominick" Date: Sat, 18 Feb 1995 11:25:35 -0500 (EST) Subject: Laurie Anderson and other words... ...I had a dream. In the dream, someone was yelling at me: "You have to get up NOW! You have to get up NOW! You have to get up NOW!!!" I got up and had 15 minutes to bike a mile and a half to get Laurie Anderson tickets. Since the Taft's box office IS a TicketMaster these days, it didn't really matter if I went to the local grocery-store TicketMaster or the box office, so I went the shorter route. Figured there'd be less people, too. At 9.59, I got there; there was one guy ahead of me in line. We were both buying Laurie Anderson tickets. He negotiated two, and went to the cash machine. I said "While he's there, can you sell me tickets so I won't be a million miles back?" The clerk asked "Same show?" "Laurie Anderson?" I asked. She nodded. "Yep." She printed the other guy's tickets, ordered me up ones a few seats away from him, printed them, I paid, he paid, we got our tickets. Several people fell into line behind us. (Two other things went on sale in Cinci today -- the Def Comedy Jam and the Jazz Festival.) I pulled my ticket out of it's envelope to look at it. It was a Def Comedy Jam ticket! ARGH! I called the other guy back, and that's what his tickets were too. She quickly called up new tickets, but they were thirty rows back. We asked what was on the balcony and got just left of center, the first row of the balcony -- basically the same seats I had for the Indigo Girls (but in a different building) and those seats were awesome. I hope thse seats are too. I've been listening to my Cocteau Twins albums a lot, because of the recent discussions here on Ecto. I've discovered that I like all of them about equally well -- except for "Peppermint Pig" :/ -- and cannot really choose a favorite. I got the new Belly CD. It's a bit more coherent than _Star_ and a lot more melodic; still, I think it's missing or lost a bit of something. When I think of Belly, I still think of some of the odd bits off of _Star_... it seems like _King_ has lost some or a lot of that oddity. Maybe after a few more repeat listens. Got the new Siouxsie CD. The first two tracks sound like the Pretenders. Sigh. I hope the rest of it sounds more like Siouxsie and the Banshees. _Superstition_, while light, was definitely them.
