As Anja said elsewhere, we went to see her in Cambridge, and we weren't disappointed! Anja summed up the show, so there's nothing I can add, except that we mentioned San Diego to her, and Jewel said "San Diego rocks!", and that we should say hi to the other past and present San Diegans. We also mentioned Neal's name a few times, so Neal, the roadie knows your name now...Be sure to introduce yourself next time! We'll be seeing her next Sunday, so if there are any Boston-area ectophiles who'd like to join us, drop a line to concert@jane.tiac.net. - -jeff - -- Jeff @ Home.... They go by the name of Tuck and Patti (or Patty, I >can't >tell which :) > >Can anyone tell me more about them? Well, I can't say much of the top of my head, but I agree they're great! Tuck plays finger-style electric guitar, and one of the things he does is get some percussive effects that are unreal -- some of the pieces he plays he does the rhythm guitar, lead, and percussion all at once. Patti (sp?) is a fantastic singer -- I'm not sure how she trained, but it is obvious she is both talented and has worked hard to achieve her sound. Tuck went to music school at Stanford, but didn't like it very much. They live(ed?) in the bay area last I heard, and have at least two CDs out. My wife and I have seen them play the local clubs -- but not for a while, since we don't get out for many concerts, what with school, work and the kids ;-) The style is heavily jazz influenced, but unique in many respects; song subjects tend to be more "conscious" than most jazz / blues stuff. - -Richard. ------------------------------ From: klaus@inphobos.wupper.de Date: Sun, 12 Feb 1995 00:21:58 CET-1 Subject: The Happy Rhodes Encyclopdia v1.11/WWW Dear Ectofolks, El Vagabundo del Cosmos proudly present (with a big *THANK YOU* to Footah for setting it up and correcting some stupid errors): the WWW version of the Happy Rhodes Encyclopedia (v1.11) To view it, point your favourite web browser to the URL http://www-ns.rutgers.edu/ecto/hre/ Some of you might remember the other versions of the HRE (for WinHelp, AmigaGuide, NeXT-RTF and OS/2). I was caught up in the Great Ecto Indigestion of 1994/1995, while the tape dubbing project thrived in the background, rapidly approaching the 900 tape mark! *whew* Another sign of the tape dubbing project's health is the availability of ever more tapes. The full FAQ for the project should be hanging somewhere around this post. Here I will point out the highlights: First, new tapes of likely interest for Ectophiles are _always_ welcomed. See the expanded answer to the FAQ * Can I add a tape to the tape dubbing project? for more details. Second, the new tapes are: Ecto Bay Area Sampler Sampler of San Francisco Bay Area artists of likely interest to Ectophiles, compiled by Dave Dixon. 1994 Happy Gift Project I 1994 Happy Gift Project II Yet another ever more eclectic set of music (and other stuff) in the semi-annual series of gifts to Happy Rhodes from the collective Ectophiles Sarah McLachlan Live! 6 Jun 1994 in Minneapolis MN. Besides, each ordered tapes comes complete with a full cassette label and a separate printed content list. * Sounds great! How do I get a copy of any or all of these tapes? Three methods are available for getting the tapes: * Establish a cassette account. In other words, send me a check to cover the cost of cassettes, packaging, and postage. Put in as much as you want, not necessarily just to cover a single order (though you can do that, too). After your first order, anytime you want a cassette, you just e-mail me, and I will fill your order as soon as possible without your mailing me anything. In this case, I would dip into my own supply of medium-quality chrome cassettes which I've ordered in bulk (Thanks, Mitch!). Accounts can be opened or closed at any time. Put in as much as you want, as more tapes will be added. * Establish a cassette account, as in 1, except that I will purchase whatever type of tape you specifically request. Obviously the cost of the tape will be higher, though the packaging and postage will be the same. * Send me the cassettes you want to put the music on (C-90 or C-100) along with money to cover packaging and return postage. I will copy the tapes you request and return them. Consider opening an account, as it will save you having to mail an order, let alone the cassettes. * How much will it cost? If you use my stash of cassettes, the cost for the cassettes is currently $1.22 each. The packaging for mailing the cassettes is between $0.36 and $0.62, depending on the number of tapes mailed. The postage varies according to the number of tapes and the destination. So far, it has ranged between $0.98 and $16.70. Big help, eh? If you wish a more precise estimate of your postage costs, I can give you one via e-mail. US orders will be mailed book rate, taking five to seven days. Non-US orders will be air mailed, taking about seven to ten days. As for foreign payments, so far everyone has sent either American cash or a money order denominated in US currency. I believe that I can handle anything denominated in US currency, and probably any cashier's check (a check drawn on the bank's rather than a personal account). * Where do I send the order? To me. My mailing address: Doug Burks 2223 NW 59th St #2 Seattle WA 98107 USA Orders will be processed in the order I get them, with special dispensation for foreign orders. Please note that I will not process any e-mail orders unless you have an open cassette account. * Who can take advantage of the tape dubbing project? Any and all Ectophiles can place an order, but only Ectophiles are eligible. However, Ectophiles can place orders for friends. Please do not spread word of this outside the Ecto mailing list. This is not meant as elitism, simply a practically matter of keeping orders at a manageable level. * Can I add a tape to the tape dubbing project? If you have a tape or three that you would like to add, just ask yourself the simple question, "Would other Ectophiles like to hear this?" If you are uncertain, trying asking Ecto itself. In either case, if the answer is "Yes", I will be happy to add it. I have a loose policy of giving two free tapes from the project for every single tape submitted. However, please restrict yourself to contributing tapes which are either significantly different or of better sound quality than what already is in the project. For one example, the five tapes of Tori Amos' 1992 concerts are two or three too many. * Anything else I should know? Just a few odds and ends: If I make any mistakes, I will replace the tape for free. I intend to post a progress report on the dubbing operation regularly. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask!
