Her lyrics are great but you would think that the craze had stopped after Tori and Sarah had done there covers (both which I think are brilliant, especially Tori doing A Case Of You). I have heard the Maire Brennan track, Big Yellow Taxi, and this is something that I think will go in the to be sold pile. (it is only a single) I look forward to the full album and should have it this week but I hope the single is the weakest thing on there. I am just not fond of her cover of this song. I am a real fan of Maire and Clannad so it just has to be that the song just doesn't work for me. Sorry to disagree but I thought I would give an opposing view point. (Somehow Chevy Chase comes to mind calling Jane Curtain an ignorant slut on Point/Counterpoint during Saturday Night Live). I think that is how a lot of you will feel with my viewpoint. Just kidding. As I wrote in my thank-you email, I don't think they'll be the best remembered rock act of our time eons from now, but they are certainly very good of their kind. The news from AG is...interesting. To cover a main point, Kevin has requested that the Prism Concert Dubbing Project be put on hold. Based on advance footage they have seen, they are not entirely satisfied with several elements of the production, esp. The Mix. They are definately planning to use some of the footage in the future. There will be a video, and this material will be a part of it. At future concerts (more on this shortly!) they will be recording ADAT and will be able to mix after the concert. Meanwhile, Kevin has politely requested that we hold off passing out the tapes. I suggested a compromise: That if they find one song in the Prism Hour that they can live with, they let me pass that along to everyone. Kevin seemed to think it was a good idea. He is sorry to ask us to refrain, but Happy prefers to have some control over what goes out to people, and I will respect that. They are interested in using some Prism footage for a CD ROM, BTW. Actually, they have to negotiate for some rights to use the footage: Prism and The Middle East have more of a share in the concert than they do. Please bear with the situation for a little while. Once they have reviewed the footage, I'm sure they'll approve some of it for ectodistribution. Meanwhile, the viewing party here is still on (if enough people RSVP; I've only had one definate response so far!) and guests are permitted to bring their own VCRs, as long as you promise to keep the tape for your own use. Again, I hope everyone understands their situation and respects their wishes. I apologise personally for jumping the gun before checking with them. I'm glad that I did check with them, for I value their trust a great deal. Now onto some more happier news. There is another concert scheduled after the Bottom Line, this one to be on April 22 in the Philadelphia area. (Sorry, we Phillyphiles seem to have a lock on them!) Kevin mentioned a place called Rex's in West Chester. I haven't heard of it myself. It's a WXPN event. More details as they develop. They are also looking into other places. The Pittsburgh concert is in the process of fizzling, alas, but again, they are looking. Well, that's the news so far. We talked for a while about other things - anyone interested in a Trace Elliot Bass Rig? Kev may have one for sale soon, but trust me, it won't come cheap! Check with y'all later. Again, I'm sorry to have offered the dubs before checking, and I hope you can appreciate my position. Local philes are welcome to watch, again, here on March 10. And I'm sure we'll get something videophonic out to everyone shortly. I really enjoyed those early 80's albums, and have been keeping an eye on her releases ever since, enjoying them for the most part. More to my surprise was Bob's mention of Holly Knight (Device). Can anyone throw their mind back even farther and remember a band called Spider? They had 2 albums, Spider and Between the lines, and 1 top 40 hit, "New romance (It's a mystery)". Holly Knight was their keyboard player, and Letterman Band member, Anton Fig, was their drummer. The vocals were handled by a young lady named Amanda blue. They also performed such Knight penned tunes as "Change" and "Better be good to me" before John Waite or Tina Turner got their hands on them. Boy, I just loved them to pieces! While we're on the subject of early/mid-80's lost bands, does anyone know what happened to Sandy Stewart? She worked with Stevie Nicks (penning among other things, "If anyone falls") singing backup, playing keyboards and even appearing in the "If anyone falls" video. Then she released a solo album, "Cat dancing" followed by an album under the name Blue Yonder, as a band with her songwriting partner, guitaris, Dave Munday. I always wanted to hear more from her. Anyone know anything? Thanks for the walk down musical memory lane! (How about Sue Saad and the Next, Robin Lane & the chartbuster or Toronto for old bands I remember fondly!)
