I listen to cd's at work (rarely at home, actually), and when I travel. 4) The Cranberries are opening for Duran Duran soon...hmmm. 5) 71 HR cd's? I *am * impressed! 6) I would have to say that I like Sensual World *very* much. I would prefer The Dreaming and The Kick Inside, but SW would be next. It has a mature, rich, vibrant sound that I find very fulfilling. 7) On RDT, woj points out that Brenda Kahn has an album previous to Epiphany in Brooklyn! If anyone has any leads to this (Goldfish Don't Talk Back) let me know! 8) Let me reiterate that I have become very taken with the Breeders new album. Should I shut up yet? Probably...Ta! It's a bunch of short shots that are very quick, but then I spent plenty of time looking at her while transcribing that ABC InConcert interview so her face is impressed in my brain. She's holding a guitar of some sort (maybe a steel guitar??? I've little clue about guitars). Yes, I know, she plays violin, but she was playing a guitar in her own video too. Can't say that I've ever enjoyed John Melencamp though. -==- robert@deepspace.nj00802.sai.com (Robert Lovejoy) > Uli, I wish we had EuroMpTeeVee here. My consolation prize was a set of fishing rods & reels. I don't fish. Needless to say, I'm completely demoralized. I almost immediately went out on a shopping binge and bought a bunch of CD's: Dead Can Dance, _Into the Labyrinth_, _Sweet Relief_, Frank Zappa _The Best Band You Never Heard In Your Life, Jean-Michel Jarre _Chronologie_, and Vangelis _Heaven and Hell_. These games are so often a matter of the luck of the draw. My father, who is great on general-knowledge, went in for the game-show "Sale of the Century", only to be pitted against the man who eventually became the winner of the "Champion of Champions" series of games, (which made him officially the best player in the country!!) who had just played (and slaughtered) his opponents in four previous games (so he was on a big roll already). Of course, my father lost (although I don't think anybody else came as close to beating him) and we got to watch the next round on TV (after the really good player had won everything) and see people whom my father would easily have beaten winning great prizes :-( :-( I suggest Fun-Movie-Therapy with a friend (Perhaps on video - really good comedies seem hard to find at the theatres) .________________________________________. ._______. | __ _ ___ _ __ __ |\________/| | | / / | / \ | \ | | | | / | _ _ | _O_ | | \_ | | | | |__/ |__| | | \_ | / \/ \ | |/ | | / | | | | | | | | | / | \ / | |\ | | \__ \_ | \_/ | | | | |__ \__ | \ / | T W W | |________________________________________| \/ |_______| \ Philip Sainty: psainty@comp.vuw.ac.nz \________/ / `-------------------------------------------------------' ======================================================================== Date: Thu, 16 Sep 93 08:49:51 EDT From: Laura Frank Clifford Subject: US Cranes Tour Dates Got a card in the mail yesterday: Cranes on tour Tues, 9/14 San Jose Live 105 San Jose Show Wed, 9/15 San Francisco Kennel Club Thurs, 9/16 Los Angeles The Whiskey Sat, 9/18 Santa Fe La Luna Tues, 9/21 St. Louis Hi-Pointe Wed., 9/22 Chicago Cabaret Metro Thurs, 9/23 Detroit Industry Fri, 9/24 Toronto Lee's Palace Sat, 9/25 Rochester Horizontal Boogie Bar Mon, 9/27 Boston Paradise Wed, 9/29 Washington 930 Club Thurs, 9/30 NYC The Grand Laura ======================================================================== Date: Thu, 16 Sep 93 07:44:28 MDT From: dbx@olympic.atmos.colostate.edu (Doug Burks) Subject: Tape dubbing status Greetings, For all Ectophiles patiently waiting for your recent orders, especially the Happy Birthday Project tapes, I am still waiting for my fresh tape order, though I've been told I should have it within two weeks. I think it is amazing that such a concert is so incredibly cheap. And, BTW Sinead is getting credit for her appearance at least in the flyer I picked up. SF Weekly this week has a cover story on PG and WOMAD, and the reporter mentions that in Albany Sinead performed a new song ("All babies"), and sang backup to PG in "Digging in the dirt" too!! Unfortunately MTV Europe normally seems to copy what MTV USA does. A bit later, but they do it. We also have the two suckheads now and we also have rap and fashion, sports etc. There's no comedy show (besides Saturday Night Live, but that's good. Got Kate there) on MTV Europe at the moment (at least none I'm aware of), but we also had them a few years back. I wonder when they'll come back. Fortunately (hopefully!) there is another music TV station emerging in Europe, or, to be precise, in Germany. It'll be called Viva and they want to bring live concerts, videos, old live concerts, a lot of German music (not that the latter means 'good' too often). Well, let's see if they can improve the quality of TV. I just hope that MTV doesn't get kicked out of the cable networks for Viva, which might happen, because until I've seen at least one week of Viva I can't confirm that it'll be better than MTV. There's so much absolute crap in the German music scene that I rather would want to be deaf than to be condemned to listen to it all day without the chance to listen to something else. But since there's also good German music there's hope. And with DCCs (Digital Compact Cassette) it's about 4 to 1. Actually the algorithm for compression is stored on the MD itself, so there's a chance they get rid of it to either use a better one (that's possible) or even to use none (reducing the capacity of an MD to just 15 minutes). BTW: Does anyone here know what's the difference between the 60 and the 74 minute MDs? Can't be TAPE length... Maybe it's a different compression scheme? Then I'd only buy 60 minutes discs! > > Here are the members.
