You know, with all this talk about regional samplers in the making, I suppose I should jump into the fray and contribute a Bay Area sampler. Speaking of Bay Area musicians, Linda Brady, a friend of mine whose song "Rented Tuxedo" I put on the HBP, has an album coming out later this fall on Son of Berserkley Records. (FYI, its predecessor, Berserkley Records, launched the careers of Jonathan Richman and Greg Kihn, among others). She'll be going on a national tour about a month after the record release. When I have dates, I'll post 'em. Linda had a concert here on Sunday night, but there was zero publicity and it was Labor Day weekend, so it turned out that Emily and I were the *only* people who showed up! Needless to say, the concert was called off, and we all went out to a local tavern for some stout. By the way.. Vickie and Meredith.. didja get your D'Cuckoo discs yet? Ah, sorry, I didn't make myself clear: The order of the songs should be ok, it's just the order of the tape sides I'm unsure of (i.e., if the Norwegian sampler is side A or B). And more or less the entire album "Sanne Salomonsen" consists of covers of songs originally in English (didn't know the Chicago version, btw. Actually, I don't really know anything about Chicago... ;-)). By "early", I was only referring to Sanne Salomonsen's career as a singer, not as a writer... You wouldn't happen to have the original lyrics on-line? ;-) I just FTP'ed the lyrics server, but I only found dialogue_part_two, which is not the interesting part... Jens P. Did Peter give an award out? I guess none of us really expected Peter Gabriel had a chance on MTV over Aerosmith and Pearl Jam but I voted for him anyway. Peter and Natalie Merchant gave out the award for best group video to Pearl Jam. It was pretty uneventful. I like Lenny Kravitz and was happy he, if not Peter, won, although I think his video for "Believe" deserved an award more than "Are You Gonna Go My Way." Overall I think this year's MTV's awards had a much more positive atmosphere. Last year had a lot of bands playing that have apathetic and/or self-destructive attitudes. This year had stuff like Lenny Kravitz's "Are You Gonna Go My Way", Sting's "If I Ever Lose My Faith", Spin Doctor's "Two Princes", REM's "Everybody Hurts", etc. (Hope I got song titles correct.) -==- > From: Suspended In Duct Tape > Anthony (the virtual one) exuberates: > }> BOOK OF LOVE: "Flower In My Hand" (Lovebubble) > }WHAT! My first exposure to them was about two years ago in Phoenix at a multi-group alternative concert. I thought they were okay and the quite-younger friend I was with *loved* them. I think their music is very cute and flirtatious and so is my friend so I guess it fit. It's too cute for me though. She bought most of their stuff later and I got to hear it and formed the opinion you stated above except that it actually started to get on my nerves (so did she at times, heh). -==- Does anyone know what happened to the group "The Other Ones"? Thank you all for giving me this enjoyable method of procrastination :-). I remember someone asking what "Wheels of Fire" is. It's a nearly-annual wheelchair race (there wasn't one last year) in Seattle, one of the few races where the main event is the wheelchair race rather than the wheelchair race being attached to an existing running race (although the latter does have its advantages, particularly when it comes to stable funding). It turns out I have seemingly millions of friends in Seattle, partly because many people I know from here have moved up there, and several more are Ectophiles.
