(About you not liking them or not giving them the time of > day for year(s?) and then really kicking yourself, or something > like that, right?) Wha huh? Oh yeah, well, Mike Weaver tried to get me into DCD in 1984, I think, and I wasn't too interested. Mainly because 1) their first album is a bit harder-edged than anything else and whatever it was he played me from the album just grated on my nerves, 2) I wasn't into gothic/ethereal yet, and 3) he didn't play a track with Lisa singing. I didn't hear anything from them again until "Within the Realm of a Dying Sun" was released. I had just gotten Enya's first album ("The Celts" soundtrack) and was putting together a show based around that album (sigh, SIG #19, back in the days when I could identify what a show was just by the number) and Kim and Richard helped me out by lending me all kinds of ethereal/gothic things. One of the albums they lent me was "Realm" and of course, I fell in love with it. It just goes to show how a wrong song/mood/timeframe can affect how you hear music and what you think of it. > BTW, I called the Vic, and they said the show in Chicago is > as yet *unconfirmed* thus tix are not yet on sale here. > The last time they played there it was a fullhouse, so I can't > imagine the unconfirmedness has anything to do with the > likelihood that the concert will or won't be well-attended. > (how's that for a sentence?) Pretty bizarre, I'd say. Anyway, the last time they were originally scheduled to play a very small theater, and the tickets sold out in about 10 minutes, so the show was moved to The Vic, and that sold out in about 20. (I remember standing in line to get into the theater and an Art Student type walking away from the box office, shaking his head and saying "sold out? SOLD OUT?? I didn't think anybody'd ever *heard* of them!") > -mjm -vam ======================================================================== Date: Thu, 9 Sep 93 1:20:53 EDT From: WretchAwry Subject: Re: Meryn Cadell TimB bombazines: > Hi all. Wow, sounds great. Is it going to be > released stateside too? or do we have to go through our favorite Australian > contacts? Ditto. (Thanks Anthony!) > Mary Coughlin sounds great too Vickie. Are her albums widely available? No :-(. "Tired and Emotional" was a Green Linnet release, so it probably can be ordered through them. I had the LP first (that's what I had Mary sign) then I found the CD at a used record store, but it was purely by accident. I wasn't looking for it. Jorn bought me "Under The Influence" and "Uncertain Pleasures" when we were in London for the KaTe KonvenTion. At Tower in Picadilly. Klaus, bless his heart, sent me "Sentimental Killer" and I bought the most recent one, "Love For Sale" at the concert. I should have said "No, not in the USA" because I'm sure they're easily found in the UK, and probably Europe. Don't know about Canada and Australia and New Zealand (have to remember to add that now that we have a bonafide Kiwiophile...Hi Philip!) I asked Mary why none of her albums except for the first was released in the US. She said it was a long sordid story and didn't really want to go into it, but apparantly she's had a nightmare of a time with WEA. > What label are they on? and are they generally hidden away in the Irish > section of the store? If they had any they might be in the International section. They'd surely be imports. My favorite is "Under The Influence" which is on WEA and the number for the CD is WEA International 242 185-2. (My second favorite is "Tired and Emotional" which is Green Linnet CDMR 001) I'm glad I have them all though. > Isn't it stupid how record stores have to divide > there music up so explicitly? Right!! > Actually, that could perhaps apply to about 5 > scenes in Helena, but mostly it was just laughably bad. I wouldn't be that harsh on the film. I'm glad I saw it. It is the kind of movie that people have to see and judge for themselves, rather than listen to the hype about the controversy. It was actually *quite* a bit different than I expected. It's certainly good enough to make me want to follow Jennifer Lynch's career. She's only 25 and has (hopefully) many films in front of her. > Although the last > 3 minutes worked pretty well, so you could leave the theater with a better > feeling than most any other time in the movie. Hmmm, interesting. Anything more said at this point should include a huge **SPOILER** warning. You can do it again. Annie Winter is getting in a mucho buncho subway posters for the "Rubberband Girl" single. Here's the info: Rubberband Girl subway posters (40" x 60") $17.00 postage paid (in the USA only) Mailed rolled in a sturdy tube Recycled Sounds (they changed the name of the store) 3941 Main Kansas City, MO 64111 Contact is Anne Winter (816) 531-4890 (store) (816) 531-4988 (fax) Anyone outside the USA should call or write for postage info. I have no financial interest in this, I'm just passing along the information. When we lived in Kansas City we lived about 2 blocks away from this store and I can tell you that it's the coolest store in Kansas City (besides The Music Exchange). We bought lots of Kate posters there, plus Homeground, music magazines galore, and tons of CDs and LPs. The last batch of subway posters were great! (However, we walked over there and bought them. Perhaps some who bought one by mail from Annie can post about your experience.) The price doesn't seem too high, but I don't know how much they're selling for elsewhere. I do know that Annie is great about not jacking up prices. After all, this is the store where Chris bought the Y Kant Tori Read 12" for $9.00 the last time he was in Kansas City. (And believe me, Annie is savvy, she knows who "Y Kant Tori Read" is.)
