Valerie! Giving Bill Clinton a copy of Warpaint is a *great* idea! I had thought of it, and even went so far as to e-mail someone from the campaign to get an addres where I could send one. I hadn't done it yet, simply because I wasn't sure it would *really* get to him. I wanted him to have one for the song "Waking Up." It's the perfect song to reflect the "revitalization" of the Democratic party, and how people are really getting excited about this election. (Well, Democrats are anyway :-)) I hope you can get it to him, and I'm glad you brought it up. It seems I've always been at work or doing something else when he's been in Chicago. It sounds like you might have a better chance anyway. Yeah! Tell him to at *least* listen to the first song, and read the lyrics. Do you have an official copy to give him (or Gore, either would do)? I bought a CD *just* to give him. I still could send it to Little Rock, but I'm just afraid it would get lost in a pile of other stuff and never get to him. I gave Tori my last official cassette copy. A cassette might be better, I don't know. They'd be more likely to have a cassette player than a CD player on the road, but who knows? I have no illusions that it will become an offical campaign song or anything, I just thought it would be nice for Clinton to hear. I know that after the Democratic convention, waking Up kept going through my head over and over. The lyrics seemed to fit perfectly with what happened. (Better than "Don't Stop" by Fleetwood Mac, IMHO :-)) I really wish November 3 would hurry up and get here! YAY! They'll be coming over Thursday night, and then again (I'm pretty sure) on Saturday for an informal Ecto Party. Chip and Michelle took them to Wisconson today, so I'll have to get a definite answer about Saturday when they get back. I'll post something when I know. If anyone wants to call here and say hi, our phone number again is (312) 508-KATE. They'll be here Thursday night after about 6:00pm Central time. I'll post about Saturday's time. Carroll" Date: Wed, 16 Sep 92 10:11:25 -0400 What ever happened to the possible plans for all of the Philly area ectophiles meeting at the concert tommorow? I haven't heard a thing yet... On a different subject... I picked up the new Suzanne Vega album yesterday. I'm _terribly_ dissapointed so far. SV's music always had an amazing sparse intimacy to it, which was a big part of what I liked about it. This new album is very polished, and _very_ distance. It just doesn't have the basic chemistry that I was hoping for. There are some _great_ songs on it, and I'm sure I'll listen to it a lot, but it will never grab me the way that her other albums have. || Mark Craig Carroll: ||"In all seriousness of truth, hear this: || Univ of Delaware, Dept of CIS|| without the It, one cannot live. Au contraire, I find that the production is what makes this album incredibly good, exactly because it creates the 'distance' which is directly the opposite of Suzanne's voice and personal lyrics, thus shaking and stirring things up and making this an *original* move, and not a return to the basics. 'Blood makes noise', as I have mentioned before in a post not long ago, IMHO needed even more 'noyze' to it to bring out the rush of emotions going through the patients head. The above opinion is *not* mine, it's *theirs*! Well, i spoke to bob brown yesterday, and to kevin.. kevin and happy will be *totally* under the control of the powers that be at the show, and they have *no* idea what's going to be going on - kevin described where they'd be after they perform (they are first) so i will try to get to them at least after if not during the rest of the show. they'd like to see us after the show, if it's possible, so we'll se ewhat we can do when the time comes. in terms of gathering, i am at a complete loss becuase i am driving Greg, and he still does not know when he can get out of work. So i can't make any concrete plans. Bob Brown is at home - i'll give him a ring right now and see if he can suggest a place to meet for dinner perhaps. I've no idea if i can make it, but if i can, then i'll be there :) So, more in a bit. jessica ======================================================================== Date: Wed, 16 Sep 92 13:31:53 EDT From: jessica Subject: place and time ot meet in philly Ok - here's the plan. We will meet at the TGI Friday's at 5pm. We may or may not eat there (there's a nearby mexican restaurant that is a possibility - it is simply easier to meet at the TGIF and decide what to do from there). These are the directions I have for me (coming from the north). Hopefully those of you in the area will be able to figure out where this is from the directions. If not, let me know. I will take 95 South to 676 West to 76 West, taking that towards Valley Forge to the City Line Ave/Route 1 exit. Get off there for Route 1 South; once off the expressway, at the first light at a major intersection (not the light at the end of the ramp), go left, and there will be the TGIF. Be there at 5pm. I'd like to arrange to meet *after* the show too - michelle from bryn mawr cannot go to the show but would like to meet us afterwards, unfortunately i've *no* idea what plans will be. I will suggest that she come to the Mann itself - of course i can't even predict when the show will be over, but from what i hear arriving early would be no problem - you can hear the music from outside :) jessica || jessica || It is this that || Don't try to tell me there's no reason for || || lawrence || brings us || any moment in time, every memory of mine. || || koeppel || together. || Those years are lines of color on my face, || || dembski || --Kate || the past is warpaint. --Happy Rhodes || ======================================================================== Date: Wed, 16 Sep 92 18:01:30 EDT From: ken@startek.com (Ken Descoteaux) Subject: Tori in Boston Where and When? We've really made it to Chicago, our final destination on this trip, safe and sound, and that doesn't only go for us, but for our luggage as well. I don't want to bore you with our complete adventures, so here are just the things which relate to Happy and Ectophiles. At MagiCon we met Meredith & Woj. Unfortunately only for a short time, as there were so many events going on (about 30 at the same time) for days. (Claudia here, hi Meredith! Willow HAS great stuff, I got myself something too.) Liz & Angelos welcomed us at Boston's airport for our 41 hour stay in this city, which looked much better in sunshine than during my visit in last December. We were lucky to see some articles about Happy we haven't seen before, and some more pictures from March's concerts. (Claudia here: Angelos also informed us that ECTO-T's easily survive saltwater and being dried under a mediterranean sun. Great choice, Jess!) Right now we have a great time in Chicago, where we already met Chip, Chris & Vickie. They told me that much more is going to happen in the next days, and we are looking forward to meet some more Ectophiles. Oh, I nearly forgot: while flying from Boston to Chicago, the pilot pointed out that, on the left side (where we were sitting), we could see Albany! :) We were not exactly sure which of the settlements in view was Albany, but we have seen it. One of the best bits so far IM(Claudia's)HO was Vickie showing us pics from the concert in Philadelphia of Happy in action. Won-der-ful!! Well done Joe. And this week we miss her again :( :( :(. On a final note, those of you who are considering to accept Vickie's invitation to an ECTO gettogether at her place, we'd be really delighted to get to know more of you ! Date: Wed, 16 Sep 92 22:53:30 CDT Love-Hounds/Ectophiles/RDTers Klaus and Claudia from Wuppertal, Germany are visiting Chicago and to celebrate, there will be a gathering at Gaffa Central on Saturday (*this* Saturday) for anyone who wants to come and be immersed in *LOTS* of music, videos, conversation, cat fur, piles of junk (ok, so housekeeping isn't our strong point, but we promise to sweep...:-) ) plus popcorn and probably Chicago style pizza at some point. Oh, and MST3k and Ren & Stimpy from 6pm-8:30pm (Klaus & Claudia can't go back to Germany without a healthy dose of surreality, now can they?) So, anytime after 1:00pm, come to: Gaffa Central: (aka Chris & Vickie's place) 1627 W. Farwell, #2N Chicago, IL (312) 508-5283 (aka L0V-KATE) Farwell is on the north side of Chicago, just south of Evanston. It's between Clark and Ashland (north & south) and Pratt & Morse (east & west.) Morse is the nearest "L" stop, and we're 3 blocks west and 1 block south of the stop. If the gate downstairs is closed, our number is #19 (we're listed under the name of "Denneson" (Goddess knows why, we don't.) Once in the court- yard, we're the second door on the right (straight until morning) and on the second floor. This is not a Kate party, though we can certainly watch some Kate videos and listen to any Kate music that's requested. The music and video selection available is wide and eclectic, ranging from Happy Rhodes to non-album Tori tracks to Pamela Golden to Zap Mama to Psychowelders to Marta Sebestyen to Bel Canto to Rainbirds to Ingrid Karklins to Sheila Chandra to Iris DeMent to just about anything in between. Browse and Request will be the motto of the day. BYOD (Bring Your Own Drinks) and any munchies you might think wise.
