Make friends with a Canadian. :) It's only available in Canada until the end of the year, and then it's to be released in the US. McLachlan's record label, Vancouver-based Nettwerk, tends to release things here first. And then Arista in the US picks it up. The delay has meant in the past that an extra song is added to the US release, for what it's worth. Do they only come in the Japanese box? I have heard that the boxes, paritcularly the Japanese, are of superior sound quality to the discs. Does anyone have any opinions on this? I am sceptical about actually noticing anything like that in my usual mode of listening, but I've been wrong before, most notably on the Ryko Bowie discs, which sound vastly superior to the originally released RCA(?) discs. inquisitively, Neal ======================================================================== Date: Tue, 26 Oct 93 12:07:06 PDT From: erik@falcon.kla.com (Erik Johnson) Subject: Re: Mercedes Lackey, etc. Cordelia's Mom writes: |> You know, I really don't like Mercedes Lackey at all. Thing Well, since I get the ecto feed late, I'll put my measly two cents in anyway after the fact about the Sarah/Kate discussion. The main "similarity" if you want to call it that is that both Sarah and Kate were prodigies, i. e. both were really young when they got a "contract" to make their own music...in fact I'll repeat the oft told tale of Sarah, that she was signed without ever writing one note of music, signed on the strength of her voice alone and that Touch was an effort to figure out how to write music in a pop medium, and that it took her three or four years after that to come up with another album (1988 to 1991)...and that she was only 17 or 18 when she was signed, etc., etc. Other than that there ain't a whole lot that they have in common. Sure Kate was an inspiration for most of the female singers coming up now, but that's just merely a matter of acknowledging those who came before...Kate's been around for about fifteen years, it's hard for anyone to escape being compared to her at least once....I find that what Sarah writes about (her oblique approach to relationships and spirituality) is nowhere near Kate's aim as borne out in her "story" songs, but enough babbling.... ======================================================================== From: brianb@netcom.com (Brian Bloom) Subject: Re: Mercedes Lackey Date: Tue, 26 Oct 93 15:45:24 PDT Mike piped in: > Mercedes Lackey's most popular books are the ones concerning > the Heralds of Valdemar.
