Since the first album was not particularly long it would have been possible just to add the live tracks. That would have resulted in sme tracks being on there in both their live and studio versions, which I would like but might be a bit confusing to the casual (prospective) purchaser. -- Regards Steve Fagg ( S.L.Fagg@bnr.co.uk +44-279-402437 ) BNR Europe Ltd., London Road, Harlow, Essex, CM17 9NA, UK *** "Better drowned than duffers. I certainly see your point, Stuart, and I was only disappointed to not having the words included. I'm still very happy with the set, though, as I have the whole lot in go now and for a reasonably cheap price. Also I don't really have much experience with boxed sets - actually it's the first one I ever bought. I agree, though, that "This Woman's Work" has certainly been put together in a *much* better way. Copperman Subject: My own private Arizona mjm: Query me about my whereabouts closer to you're Anaheim visit. I'm in San Diego 1.5 to 2 hours south, but who knows what could possible happen. I just came back from a little Arizona jaunt myself, experiencing the absence of a time change first hand. I've always been opposed to the time change. Actually, I think it's schedules I'm opposed to. If you don't like going to work in the dark, why not wait til light. Why leave at 6:05 every day? Shift your life to conform to nature, not your definition of nature to conform to life. But, perhaps my biggest problem is that I am always oblivious to those types of things. I went a day and a half before I realized that the time change had occured. (HOw come there are no people at work? WHy are these doors locked?) In fact, I entered Arizona on Friday and promptly changed my watch. I proceeded to marvel that the informatoin booth at the Grand Canyon was unconcerned about closing 10 minutes away from shut-down time. Thought it was weird when they asked if we wanted to be seated now for dinner, but even weirder that they did when it was an hour before our actual reservation. Hmmm, the shops are all open an hour later than the brochure said, but I guess it was out of date. Yes, another 2 days out of step with society. Actually, it's kind of fun living in your own time zone. Ilka - I've been eyeing that Police box myself. Finally, a box I want where I have very little stuff. Do they mix all the B-sides in or do they preserve the order and spirit of the albums, but squash them onto 4 discs? As for the words to German songs being dreck, most popular American songs have pretty pathetic lyrics too, and I don't think most people care about that either. *************** Movie discussion warning. SHouldn't be spoiling anything about The Age of Innocence, but might be more than you want to read if you haven't seen it. ********************************************************************* Laura C. - Of the four of us that saw this film, I liked it the best (read - I was the only one who liked it). I thought the initial "loving?" camera- work was manic, intrusive and unproductive. All the swooping and exploring was detailed, but too detailed without giving me a broader picture, plus, it was distracting, as were the solid color fades. I actually thought the core center of the movie was very powerful. EIther the film tricks were gone or it was interesting enough to distract me from them. I thought the tensions and supressed emotions of the main characters were palpable and very well portrayed. I thought there was an over-reliance on the voiceovers, but they bothered me less than they bothered the people I was with. I didn't like the inconsistancy in the choice of voices used though. So, I thought it was too slow to get into, and too slow to get out of. I was very disappointed with the ending. Realizing that the actual events are fairly faithful to the book (which I haven't read), I can't fully blame the movie. I don't know if the book gives some motivation for Daniel Day Lewis' final actions, but I feel they were not even hinted at in the movie. I can try to guess some possible reasons, but I wasn't given or even hinted at any. I didn't necessarily want a happy ending, or even one that I agreed with, but I did want one that seemed alive for the character. Sure, you could say that the character was so overly restrained that I shouldn't expect that, but it still left me cold. (Oddly, my friend thought it reminded her of Damage, but she liked that much better. Despite my complaints, I liked this better, since I could grasp and feel the inner circle of this film, which never happened to me in Damage.) I'd put a number of films above this on my years list, including "Un Coer ... Hivre", "Joy Luck Club", "The Long Day Closes" (Showing I don't object to camera and cinematography tricks), and probably a bunch of others that don't spring to mind right now. Oh yeah, local critic called the movie "Raging Bull in a china shop". Just thought that was amusing, but only partially appropriate.
