First of all, my friend Jacqueline has a Columbia copy of "Red Shoes" while I have a UK one; we can confirm that the US one does indeed have Kate's name and the album title reversed on the front cover from the UK one. Marketing decision, methinks. Thanks to those who responded to be added to my fledgling Margot Smith mailing list, you're all added; Philip Sainty, I've changed your address to the new one you posted, SAINTY_P@kosmos.wcc.govt.nz - hope that's OK. Callahan, sorry, I still can't get mail to you. Could you mail your postmaster about this? The error I'm getting is that a username CALLAAHAN cannot be found. Anyone else wants to be added, just mail me. First post from the list will go out tonight - an article on Margot that just appeared in "New Woman" magazine (which prompted some strange looks from the newsagent when I bought it. :-) Following this will be a full transcript of the interview I did back in August. Subscribers to the Church mailing list will get this anyway, as the Church mailing list is subscribed to mine. :-) I went and saw U2 last night. BIG show, and while musically things were somewhat overwhelmed by the visuals, it was a real *experience* - VERY choreographed, but entertaining nonetheless. It's amazing to be standing at the front of a stadium filled with 60,000 people and to turn around when the crowd blinders are on and observe the masses of people. And I want one of those video screens. They look awesome. Actually, I want dubs of the Zoo TV tape feeds, too. They'd be great for parties! Highlight was a moving version of "Love Is Blindness" near the end, with images on the four big screens taken from what looked like old black and white night footage from planes, all four seperate images synchronised to move in the same direction at the same time. It was sublime. Jens unrelates: > On a completely unrelated topic: I'm going to Australia next month for > a conference in Brisbane. In one day, there are only In regard to my post of a little while back, I wouldn't say at all that I was "slamming" Susanne at all. Just pointing out a few facts. I spent a fair bit of (a) personal effort, (b) money on international phone calls and faxes, and (c) time in trying to get Susanne and Mushroom and Festival in contact with each other, and plugged away to the head of Liberation Records and assured her there would be a follow-up package/phone call/fax or whatever, as Susanne ensured me there would. Nothing ever arrived. It put me in an embarrasing position on this end. I'm busy too - I work four jobs, but still found time to do all this. It was a labour of love, not for any personal gain. I don't know what her reason was, but there's a perfectly good opportunity going completely to waste here. Mushroom, after all, are an international company. > so many phone calls to radio stations one can make, promo materials one can > send out, and letters one can write. Besides, she has a life, too. I think it's an interest- I'd just like to throw in my voice on this one - I like the song-by-song assessments; I did a longer version of that with my Margot Smith album review in Beat and I was surprised how many people commented on the format (the review printed was a slightly edited and partially re-written version of the Ecto one). Even Steve Kilbey reportedly liked the track-by-track approach I used. I've found all the summaries informative, interesting, and above all illustrative of the different ways different people can see the same album. > 3.) From: RODRIGUES CRAIG J Date: Sun, 14 Nov 1993 16:17:25 -0500 Hello, Has any ectophile been to any of the Bjork concerts in New York or Toronto? If so, what did you think? I went to the one in Toronto, and thought it was really nice. I've only heard two songs off of the new album, so most of the songs that she sang, I hadn't heard before. Most of the songs had a dancy feel to them, but one or two had a sort of jazzy feel to them. Overall, it was very nice. Bjork looks like a little girl when she jumps around and dances on stage.... she's so CUTE! The only problem I had with the concert was that it started a bit late. The ticket said 8:00, but after the opening act (some boring industrial-ish band from England) and some waiting around, Bjork came on at 11:00. Since there weren't too many seats in the Opera House, I was standing the whole time, and was REALLY tired at the end. Overall a very good show, very pleasant...and Bjork is so CUTE! :) -- Craig Rodrigues | Chemical Engineering, 1996 | University of Toronto | rodrigc@ecf.toronto.edu | ======================================================================== Subject: hi! Date: Sun, 14 Nov 93 17:43:24 -0500 From: jeffy@syrinx.umd.edu So sez our illustrious wanderer, Beth Perry! I just spent an hour with her and another of the Ecto fold, Geoff Carr(e?), who was in town for a conference and is now just hanging about. Beth is back from Faray, and glad to be back in the world of available music (she even bought herself a CD player yesterday!). She's hoping to get online pretty soon (using her account on Mike's machine, Tirk) but makes no promises. She *would* like to say that she's incredibly grateful to all who wrote her whilst she was in the field. This includeds Mary T., who wrote but did not include a return address! Beth was rather frustrated at not being able to write back! Anyway, she just wanted me to say hi to everyone. Nine people showed up: Klaus & Claudia (of course...), Tim Cook, Chris Boek, Perttu Yli-Krekola, Wolfgang Drotschmer, Frank (a friend of Klaus), Ilka Heber and myself. The whole day and a good part of the night were spent with a lot of fun, lots of good music (can you believe that we did not listen to any Happy song? (I think we all know them by heart...)), lots of video, lots of food, FUZZY BLUE DRINKS, Claudia's blue fingers ( ;-) ), an IRC session with Yngve and Juha and someone called Holly who did nothing but signing on and signing off five minutes later without us being able to squeak a single word out of him, a phone call to the very source of the whole Ectomania that spreads around the world (Vickie of course), writing a card to Happy, taking a few photos and 6 minutes of video, and of course a lot of talking. Ah yes, and we started to prepare something that will show up in a few weeks. No further details right now!
