I had been considering to use the Fido-Net to get my Ecto digests from home, but you have confirmed what I had been thinking about it's reliability. When you posted it originally I didn't know about .gaffa, and had no access to the net. Martin: > 7) The Personal database extension project > (which I hereby propose :-) > Everyone emails in a GIF picture of themselves. > Or their tattoo. Actually I've just seen some Ectophiles on a GIF today. While browsing through the Love-Hounds archive, I've found the group picture Ron Hill had taken on the steps of the Ann Elizabeth House Vickie has just mentioned. What a coincidence. That GIF and the description Ron wrote in .gaffa allowed me to identify people. Nice seeing you folks :). It's a pity that Meredith had been cut out though. Jeff about Enya's new "Shepherd Moons" > Rush out and buy this one... > (yes, lyrics are still by Roma, and she's still produced by Nicky...and there > are plenty of songs in Gaelic) It gets my recommendation as well. After reading your message I first thought that there aren't that many Gaelic song on it, but there are. 5 out of 12. Somehow I've lost in which language she is singing. The mood of the songs (music & voice) are so enchanting that I don't notice what she is singing. Uff, that was 5 days of digests. I'm feeling exhausted. This must have been some hours. Hmmm, I put on a new CD 4 times, so that was about 4*45 min. (average), about 3 hours. I've put all my CDs in alphabetical order yesterday, and now I'm playing them all in that order. Currently playing "Pete Bardens, Seen One Earth". Time for dinner, and the off to Cologne to see Midge Ure in concert. WARM FUZZY BLUE HELLO TO ALL OF YOU !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Well, I finally caught up reading digests!! As this is my first message for ECTO, let me introduce myself: I had no access to the net myself before, but I've been following ECTO since its beginnings, reading over Klaus' shoulder and sometimes getting printouts from him. I'm currently in Boston and have access to a machine (UNIX, yuk) with mailing capabilities. I hope I will be able to stay on the list after I'm back home again (Mid February), our experts were in the process of linking our VAX to the University Cyber which is in turn linked to... etc. Actually they promised they'd have it going in October ... oh well. And Klaus is trying to get access from our PC at home. No car, I walk or use public transport. Jessica, it's o.k., I already guessed you were too busy. Good luck with your singing projects and Ecto-band noodlings (no offence meant ;-) I'd really like to comment on some of those threads that came up lately. But I guess I'll spread them over several mailings, or otherwise this will end up a XXXL-Vickie!! Boston traffic: Haven't got used to it yet. Pedestrians seem to be looked at as an expendable nuisance with no rights whatsoever. Cars use their horns a lot! Bostonians seem to be good at mathematics, as when there is a wide lane with no seperating lines in it (and sometimes when there are lines) they seem to know there is an infinite no. of possible lanes between the two sides, and they use them all! BTW, to whoever said that, european or specifically german drivers do NOT hit themselves over the head frequently with a brick; if they can get hold of a nice, heavy brick they put it on the gas-pedal and leave it there! Madonna: I don't like her or her music very much (I don't turn the radio off when they play her as I would do with a few others, but that's the best I can say). I don't want to go into detail, but one thing I dislike especially is that somewhat hard, sharp sound of her voice. So different from Happy's warm, full, rich tone! (Mostly I prefer male singers anyway). Connected to this, this thing about colors and music is really interesting. I too connect Happy to dark blue, but that's because some of my most intense listening to her was while riding with Klaus in his car, which is dark blue inside and out (everything, including the safety belts). But then, blue is also a cold colour, and that sure doesn't go with Happy. Her voice is definitely warm. Rather like a polished wood surface, maybe mahogany or yew. Since here I listen a lot to the radio, mostly WFNX, thanx to all who recommended it! But guess which one of the pile of cassettes I brought has hardly left my walkman? Right! However, for some reason, your recent two caught my eye. I'll simply say I envy their intended recipient. Maybe someday I'll find a woman who could write something like that about me. For your efforts, applause! I'll have to dig through my archives and check out your earlier efforts. Alan, I did get your reply. It's nice to know our mailer handles even FidoNet. A warm fuzzy blue welcome to new Ectophiles, Terry and Dan. Don't start to wonder whether joining Ecto was a mistake when people here start asking about your weight, the car you drive, or your shoe size. It's all just a part of being fuzzy blue, nothing we can help. :-) Well, it _is_ a happy time in Fort Collins. One event turned all of the worried yellow ribbons that have decorated trees, homes, and businesses in this city for six and a half years into signs of celebration. Thomas Sutherland was released from captivity in good spirits and good condition, and will return home on December 1st to a huge local celebration. In case you wonder about my intense interest in the hostage situation, I actually have connections with two. First, Thomas Sutherland is a resident of Fort Collins, as noted. Second, Alann Steen is the ex-husband of a friend of mine, and it was great news that Terry Waite bore that Alann and the other Western hostages will be released before the end of November. A lot of thanks will be given this Thanksgiving. A final weather note. Our weekend storm dropped seven inches of slush on Fort Collins, ending Monday. Today (Wednesday) the temperature will top sixty degrees, erasing all that snow. Tomorrow (Thursday) winter storm warnings are up. Such is the roller coaster of Colorado weather. Carroll" Date: Thu, 21 Nov 91 15:27:31 -0500 I just want to second Jessica's kind words about WXPN. Since I heard about XPN on Ecto, my stereo hasn't been tuned anywhere else. As far as I know, XPN is the _only_ radio station in the Philadelphia area that isn't either top40, or Classic rock. WXPN plays wonderful stuff, with the most diverse mix of any station I've ever heard. (Where else can you, in one hour, hear Tom Lehrer, Happy, Innocence Mission, and Sting?) And as long as I'm writing, and I mentioned them: If you haven't heard of Innocence Mission, rush out to your record store, and buy _Umbrella_. I bought it after hearing _And_Hiding_Away_ on XPN, and it's a wonderful album. Musically, it sounds a lot like a cross between lightly electrified folk and the Cocteau Twins. Lyrically, it's one of the most delightful, gentle, beautiful albums I've ever heard. (The quote in my .sig is from from _and_hiding_away_) Ah well.
