I do not want to give the impression of being humorless, but I don't completely enjoy seeing such items here. Part of it is that many of the recent items have been widely recirculated before in other forums; they are funny the first time, and funny enough that people want to show them to others, but not funny enough to hold up over and over again. Part of it is also that such items don't seem to me to fall into the subjects that I think Ecto normally covers, although I think we'd all have a hard time coming up with a precise definition of what Ecto does cover :-). I don't want to come across as trying to enforce my opinion on others. Said little birdie also asked me to ask around to see who might be interested in joining an MF list... So right now I'd like to collect the names and e-mail addresses of folks who may be interested in joining an MF list. Once the list is set up, info will be sent to you about how to subscribe. If you might be interested, send me a message telling me: a) your name b) your e-mail address c) when you might like to join (so if, say, you are at school now but won't have net access till september or so you can still express your interest now, etc.) The reason that the powers that be need to know if you might be interested is because they need to see if there will be enough/too much interest in an MF list before an account can be established. So give me a beep if this sounds good to you... Just got no time, and you folks are the most important net.reason I have. Glad to hear so many of you liked the "Why ask why?" article my old friend Steve sent me. Steve knew me back in the daze when I was mostly a musician, just passed the full professional gig but playing a lot, before I was married. He used to be buddies with Soft White Underbelly, so we always got stage passes to Blue Oyster Cult shows. But, as usual, I digress. I received another little gem from him, which I shall pass along to you on my next post. woj, Chris - did the Package get delivered? Is brni still with us? I've noticed his absence... So many new ectophiles, though, and welcome to everyone! Someone asked a while ago about "Given In" and "Warpaint"... I've always found Warpaint to be a very uplifting song. Having had my share of psychic bruises, I can emphathise! Actually,I guess I find all of Happy's music deeply relevant and important. But you all knew that! Time to go... Hi! (I'm still not ignoring all the people to whom I owe mail... :}) Thanks, Vickie, for posting the WOMAD tour itinerary. I've been hearing on the radio all week that it will be just outside of New York City on July 16, though -- not sure what happened to Saratoga. Chris Sampson, you were going to try for tickets for Saratoga, weren't you? Do you know anything about this? (Alas, I will be attending a wedding that day, so I'll have to miss it :( ) Everything scrolled by so quickly, I honestly can't remember which list I saw this on, but Sarah McLachlan will be appearing for free at SummerStage in NYC (is that in Central Park or Battery Park?) on Saturday, July 9 at 3 PM. I'm there! :> (Sorry if I saw that on ecto and this is a repeat...) Again, the number to call in requests for the last Champagne Jam is (203) 344- 7922. I'll be on the air from 4-7 PM Eastern time this Sunday, so give me a call! :> Thoroughly sick of working 12-hour days, I remain, Meredith meth@delphi.com ======================================================================== Date: Thu, 19 May 1994 23:51:24 -0700 From: "Alex Gibbs" Subject: Song on old Northern Exposure I was looking through some really old posts I meant to reply to, hoping to get to the new ones soon.... Anyway there was talk about a song on Northern Exposure. A while ago there was an epside about Marilyn going to Seattle and Joel going there because he wass worried about her. While she was shown touring around Seattle they played a song which sounded somewhat like modernized American Indian music with a female singing in a native tongue. Well, in a word -- magnificant I arrived about ten minutes early -- would have been 20 if I could find someplace to park -- and hooked up with Erik (@falcon.kla.com) and we went on in. I have to admit that I had never been to a concert at the Palace of Fine Arts, but was suitable impressed with the cozy feeling of the hall. The performance bill was a very nice touch - it's been quite a while since I'd seen something like that. So, to the performance; it was simply wonderful -- very professional, and very energetic. I too was quite impressed with her performance band, and they even let the double bass do a solo passage (sorry, pet peeve). The guitar player and the fiddle player are amazing, and the, uh, rendition of Amazing Grace was, well let's just say Jimi Hendrix would be proud . I agree that she didn't talk as much as she did the last time around, but at least she seemed quite comfortable this time, even with a couple of tounge - tied spots ("...and on the Brian we have, oops!") Overall, quite an enjoyable night, even with the Grateful Dead refugee dancing in the wings off stage. Oh, last thing-- after three standing ovations, Loreena came out- alone- and performed 'Annachie Gordon', but told us that the concert was being RECORDED! The line for that album starts here! Troy Shadbolt --completely exhausted, but still on a Loreena buzz. ======================================================================== The ecto archives are on hardees.rutgers.edu in ~ftp/pub/hr.
