He is a popular radio columnist, fairly conservative, been on the air since before my mother can remember. He has two segments...a news commentary, where his conservatism really shows, and a humor/interest piece, called "The Rest of the Story", talking about how some interesting thing came to be, or how someone famous (or who's works are famous) came to do his calling (or, less often, his accomplishment). These stories are told without mentioning til the very end what the thing (or who the person/people are). Actually, when he isn't talking religion, he is usually interesting. >>Why would Natalie get so mad about this kid and his dead guinea pig? I think there was some appeal to the school board to get the dead guinea pig into the pet show. I think she was offended that this type of stupid pressure could work. She was upset that Harvey would encourage it. This was, no doubt, influenced by other things he said, likely about abortion, or prayer in schools, or some other such topic. >>Dennis, what's your favorite Paul Harvey story? (Well, ok, he didn't ask, but anyway ;-) Two parts of on session: First, a story about a Russian guy, fishing in the Volga River (I think). His dog was helping him out, sometimes helping him bring in fish as he catches them. Sammy the 120lb Tuna, or whatever they have in the Volga River(this is paraphrased, of course) is putting up a tremendous fight as our guy tries to reel him in. Fido goes out to help...and gets swallowed. Whole. A little bit of tail sticking out of Orca's mouth. Well, our concerned friend finally manages to reel this fishy King Kong in, pries its mouth open, and out pops Rex, who proceeds to turn and bark a "don't ever try that again" message. Followed by a bit about a guy who was the only passenger on a coast-to-coast 747 flight. (Normally 100++ passengers). When asked, he said that the service was great. I've just skimmed through WAY too many ecto postings (go away, all of you, and cultivate lives! KIDDING!), and I'm not going to specifically reply to anything, just mention a few things that popped into my brain as I browsed through: Regarding dating techniques, no one in academia is using "BC" and "AD" any more, opting instead for the more PC terms "B.C.E." (Before Common Era) and "C.E.", (Common Era), the cusp of which is the birth of Christ, but it's more arcane this way. It would seem to me that the easiest thing to do would be to choose KaTe's birth year as the cusp of our K.E. (KaTe Era), so the years before 1958 would fall under B.K.E. (Before KaTe Era), and we'd all be happy. :) So Peter Gabriel is playing Hartford, huh? And on a Saturday, no less... I'm going to regret this, but I will at least try to get tickets. Do they really go on sale on a Saturday??? Really good interview with Jane Siberry posted to .gaffa recently. Her new album is out on June 8th- yay! Jeff, I forgot to mention this, but when I saw 10KManiacs last weekend Natalie mentioned that she had gone kite flying that afternoon, and even though it wasn't breezy at all near the ground the winds were going up in the sky, so she got her kite up 1,000 feet ("I used two spools of 500 feet each.
