I've been a bit occupied just recently so I've saved up several things I wanted to say until I had time, like now... Thanks to all those who sent birthday greetings. What a nice friendly bunch you all are! I'm still young enough (34 now) that birthdays are fun, not events to be dreaded. Thanks also to Greg and to Doug for all the tapes. I've not had a chance to listen to any of them yet. Perhaps this weekend (it's a holiday weekend here in England so we get Monday off work). I'm glad to see that Klaus has added June 18th to the Birthday list as Ecto's official birthday, as I think that's the most appropriate date. >From the information supplied by Jessica it would appear that Ecto's mama was "rendered up the spout" (to re-use Mitch's legendary phrase) on June 10th and that the gestation period for the mailing list was a mere eight days (faster than cats, eh Mitch?). Unless I've missed it, nobody has yet posted how much postage AG want for an order for the first four CDs from the UK. Please somebody post the relevant info. Glad to hear from Martin tha the Address & Phone Number collection is growing apace. What a silly billy, though, to throw away all that valuable information about poeple's shoe sizes! You've been on Ecto long enough by now, Martin, to appreciate just how absolutely *vital* such statistics are around here :-) Finally, what's the deal about the HBP? Am I right in thinking that Klaus is putting it together? If so, what's the address, when's the deadline, and how many tapes & how much postage should be sent? P.S. to Klaus, or anybody else in Germany: would you be willing to buy a CD of the new Steve Harley album "Yes You Can" for me and send it to me in England. I'll pay for the CD and the posting costs (in advance if you prefer). This album is not being released in the UK until September, and when it does come out it will have a different track listing anyway. The album is not being (officially) imported, so I'm keen to get hold of a copy of the German release. It's been a while since we've had an Ecto birthday, over a week! :) Anyway ...] A very warm fuzzy blue Happy HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Beth Perry, resident Ecto seal, pregnant cat, and Canadian music expert. Put on some wonderful music and enjoy your own personal holiday, Beth! While on the subject of birthdays, Ecto's is not too far away, but controversy rages about which day it is. Since I joined between June 13th and June 18th, I'd love to vote for June 18th, since that would make me a charter Ecto sub- scriber. :) However, I think June 13th is the best, since that is when the first Happy Rhodes mailing list became a firm reality! On the other hand, why limit ourselves? We can celebrate Ecto's birthday for the whole nine days from June 10th through 18th. :) Also I would like to extend warm fuzzy blue greetings and sad fuzzy blue farewells to the unknown people who have come and gone on this list since my last greetings. If you're a newcomer, feel free to pop up and at least say "Hi!" and give us your birthday, so I can embarrass you just like I did to Beth! Also an Ecto FAQ (still waiting for votes on its pronunication! :) ) is available, which I can send you, if you wish. Meredith noted: That would be fun, but don't try to broadcast it- "War of the Worlds"- esque pranks on the airwaves are now quite illegal, and I would imagine that would go for fake commercials as well... I seriously doubt the last part is true, unless they've put the laws on the books within the last ten years or so. When KROQ in Los Angeles was the most adventurous and fun radio station in captivity in the late Seventies, they loved to broadcast fake commercials of barely disguised real products. They even broadcast a parody of the Emergency Broadcast System tests. "Had this been a real test, you would have heard this", followed by sounds of sheer pandemonium. Also early Saturday Night Live was very well known for its fake commercials, some of which looked more real than the actual ads. Way to go, Steve V!! I guess it's appropriate for Happy, dressed up in her black cape, to be in a (or more precisely, on) KAVE. :) We should give some awards to such Happyvangelistic efforts, for people who get Happy played on the radio! I'm sure someone here can come up with an appropriate name for such an award, like Order Drears? [Sorry about that. My mind isn't being too creative right now. :) ] Jessica pleaded: I can only get WXPN in my car :(:( Doug, can you tape the show!? Is anyone else near enough to a station who can tape it?? Unfortunately, I haven't been feeling well the last week or so, and I forgot to tune it in Monday night. I'm sorry! :( I hope that Bob Brown caught it for you. Meredith noted: I was wearing my ecto-T [at the 10,000 Maniacs concert], but nobody noticed. :( I've had only about four people comment on mine when I've worn it, and none have been curious about Happy. :( Tracy asked: Doug, can you post the contents of these tapes? Geez, it might be a big task. If it's not that big, could it be done? Thanks! tlb I'm currently reformatting all of my tape information, so will post it all when it's done. However, I do plan to wait until I get Meredith's tapes so that they will include new information. Stay tuned! But it's about a birth, and that brings me to 'HAPPY BIRTHDAY Beth!'. Now on to other things: Tracy writes in response to my comments on Annie Lennox: Moi>If you thought Annie Lennox's performance on Saturday Night Live sucked, Moi>then you were right. If you let this unfortunate event stop you from Moi>enjoying her new solo album 'Diva', then you are making a mistake. >That wierd. When they played SPAC a few years ago, they were really good. >That's too bad that has to happen to a few. Wooooa...Wait a second. If you read a bit further in my post I wrote: Moi>Let me start from the opening song 'Why' which got crucified in the SNL Moi>performance, apparently by the lack of a good supporting band, since if Moi>I remember correctly Annie was backed by the house band. Annie is a *wonderful* live performer and she demonstrated that in the concert for life. In fact had it not been for the Happy concerts, the eURYTHMICs concert I saw in 1989 would have been my all time favorite concert. The SNL incident was simply a bad moment. Annie still reigns! Doug wrote: >On the other hand, why >limit ourselves? We can celebrate Ecto's birthday for the whole nine days >from June 10th through 18th. :) Now that's creative thinking!!! Imagine the possibilities. We could even write a little song for this: 'The nine days of ecto'. Sing along everyone: 'On the first day of ecto Jessica brought to us one beautiful custom made T' 'On the second day of ecto Vickie brought to us two tapes called HGP' ... And it isn't noon yet! :) Heck, I will even point out the deeply rooted symbolism for the 9 days between Ecto's conception and its birth.... Have a nice day everyone! It's a "two part vocal com- position" which Peter (PDQ Bach) Schickele wrote for his mother's 80th birthday on August 8, 1988, a date best known where I live as the date the Chicago Cubs held the first night game in Wrigley Field, and got rained out before enough innings had elapsed to make it an official game.
