The man there told me that since the putative mother cat's abdomen has stayed at about the same level of distention the last few weeks, it probably is indeed just a pseudo- pregnancy, a possibility which Beth raised in her discussion of all this with me. He went on to tell me something I didn't know: that within the narrow time frame of bona fide estrus, a cat can be rendered up the spout by up to three different fathers. V e e r r y i n t e r e s t i n g. (Of course, the possibility also exists that the way those two cats were going at it last week, if she wasn't pregnant before, she might well be now. Science works in mysterious ways :-). MEANWHILE, BACK ON EARTH: On a whim, I pulled the very first file of ecto postings out of the hardees archive last week, to check on my earlier assertion in these pages that June 13, as ecto's birthday, should be added to the birthday file. It seems that Jessica's first message to all the charter subscribers was after 11 PM, Jersey time on June 10, the first posting submitted by a subscriber was dated June 11, and the first posting to the formally constituted list, under its original Ectoplasm name, was on June 13. Nobody I can think of besides Jessica would be knowledgeable about whether any Great Moments in Ecto History occurred on June 12. At any rate, there probably should be some meeting of the minds about when the real birth date of ecto was. Speaking of which, we probably should begin to think about what to do in commemoration of ecto's first birth- day. (As far as I know, Marvin Camras' birthday is still January 1.) A thought at large: is the elusive Intelsat satellite, in effect, an inanimate Sergei Krikalev for the second quarter of 1992? I noticed she had an accent, but it didn't sound Irish to me at all- in fact, it sounded almost German. That might come from Gaelic sounding Germanic, but I'm not sure. And the Sarah footage made me determined to see her in concert this summer, even if I have to go to Canada to do it! Well, yesterday was the final Champagne Jam, and it went really well. Thanks to all of you who sent in requests! I was able to get to almost all of them, providing I could find the album in the station. It was the most annoying show I'd ever done in terms of looking for records and finding them either not in their sleeves or jewel boxes or just outright gone. People who use radio station record libraries as freebie bins should be dragged out into the street and shot. :P The recording seems to have come out, though thanks to some rather bizarre technical difficulties a couple songs got lost at the beginning of hour number 3, and I forgot to hit record at the very beginning- but it's only one song, and in the copy I use for dubbing I'll stick it on there, since I have it and it's a better copy than the vinyl at the station anyway. Speaking of dubbing, next week I'm going to be sending out a copy of the show to Doug, who very generously offered to add it to his list. I'll also send a copy of my Happy sampler to him, so all requests for said items should go to him. I'm not going to post the playlist, simply because I want you all to be surprised. ;> If you really MUST have it before you get the tapes, e-mail me.
