I've always played Beethoven's 4th Symphony, very loud, every year to officially declare it to be Spring. (You always wondered who was in charge of that; now, you know - it's me.) Unfortunately, all but one of my loudspeakers has fallen apart, probably thanks to the time they spent in a hot moving van, coming down to Texas from New Hampshire, so this year, I guess, there will be no Spring... Sorry. When I get home from work, I just garb three or four ablums and in they go. It means I'm listening to music while I cook and eat dinner, and on most occasions I miss the news (now there's a shame). It still takes a while to go through the whole collection, but then that's the nature of having HugeMusicCollections. Anyway it works for me, there are some people who can't listen to music and do something else, but then you get that. Thanks for letting me have my two bytes worth. It was......April of '92. I'd have to check my videotape for the exact date, but the 22nd springs to mind. She played "Crucify." She was great on Letterman t'other night. She said in an interview on WHFS Monday morning that she had no choice but to play with Shaeffer 'n co, but that she liked doing so. Note that the version of Cornflake Girl she played was different. This morning she was on GMA and was stunning, as usual. She played Pretty Good Year, leaving out the second verse (the one that ends with her weird echo on the word "america"). I suspect that this was for time reasons; she sang the full version in concert on Sunday night. Jeff |Jeffrey C. Whew! Thought I was having net.problems again. This was returned: Yikes! I came home from work today, logged in to grab my mail, and - Nothing From Ecto! This is unprecedented! I hope it's temporary. I look forward to the posts here! I saw in gaffa that Sarah is on MTV's alternative nation tonight, 12:30 am EST. This is doubtless late news, but maybe you all saw it before. I'm taping, FWIW. Today I got a new toy, it's amazing. It's a Superadio III from GE, and it's incredibly sensitive. Now I can travel to visit other ectophiles by radio; as I type this, WJZ powers in from Detroit.(I'm not sure WJZ's in Detroit, but they were broadcasting from there...) A little up the dial, WLS from Chicago. At 1030, WBZ booms in from Boston. Unfortunately, AM radio in the USA is a lost cause; it seems to be all sports talk, Rush talk, or Gospel music. Anyway, it's fun to DX with it, and the sound quality is great. It also provides FM, so I'm not far from WXPN, the station that exposed me to Happy's music. Now to send this, and I hope there are some posts from you folks to pick up. Bob the avid AM DXer... Well, I'm glad to see us all together again! A day without ecto is like a day without music. BTW, MTV did OK by Sarah, a nice interview and she played "Good Enough" on acoustic guitar. For example I will first hear a song in a situation and remember it vividly, then when I hear the song again, the same feelings or atmosphere will come back. This most often happens with summer for some reason. I guess because I spend more time outside during the summer and a controlled environment doesn't do much for unique situations. ======================================================================== Date: Thu, 31 Mar 94 02:22:27 EST From: jessica@maurolycus.rutgers.edu (jessica) Subject: testing.. well, my message about the error in the list file got to me without any bounces, and there've been a few additional messages, but still the list has seemed pretty unnaturally quiet the last several hours.. so here's a test message, just hoping all is ok with the list.. jessica ======================================================================== Date: Thu, 31 Mar 1994 13:04:56 +0100 From: S.L.Fagg@bnr.co.uk (Steve Fagg's Mac) Subject: I must stop going into record shops... Michael ======================================================================== Date: Thu, 31 Mar 1994 09:47:01 -0500 (EST) From: Sam Warren Subject: Tori in NY Well, Tori swept into Symphony Space in New York City last night. For those of you who keep track (like I do), here's the set list: Rawhide (on tape) Flying Dutchman Crucify Icicle These Prescious Things Happy Phantom Pretty Good Year God Silent All These Years The Waitress Leather Smells Like Teen Spirit Me And A Gun Baker Baker (encores) Cornflake Girl Winter (2nd encores) Tear In Your Hand Here. In My Head The concert was exciting. Her opening act was a Mohican indian (and Warner Brothers recording artist) named Bill Miller. He was really excellent. Recently there was some debate here about Tori live vs. Tori on CD. To add my voice to the throng, I loved seeing her live, but she played every song so slowly, I longed for a change of tempo. Sometimes, when you ponder a lyric, and pause for effect too frequently, it dulls my emotions. Tori seemed to be considering every word she said quite carefully. Sometimes that worked for me (Icicle, Silent All These Years), but sometimes I longed for the pace I was used to (God, Baker Baker). So, I don't really think I *prefer* her on CD, but I do wish she'd play *some* songs a bit more like they were recorded. Also, although she's a wonderful pianist, I find I miss the orchestration. Just my $.02 worth. BTW, this is the first time I've seen her live. -Sam ======================================================================== From: Tim Cook Date: Thu, 31 Mar 94 15:43:20 BST Subject: I went shopping too!!!! Whatever Steve F has got I think I caught it 'cos I've been doing a vast amount of CD purchasing in the last couple of days. Alison Moyet/Essex - Much better than her last. I love the current single and the video with Dawn French is brilliant! The Divine Comedy/Promenade - Shock horror. MALE VOCALS. If you like Momus you'll probably like this a lot. More acoustic than Momus (with violas and guitars and cellos). The lyrics are great! Matraca Berg - I think she's from L.A. Quite pleasant in places. Reminds me very very slightly of Melissa Ferrick (and I do mean *very* slightly). OK so far and getting better with each listen. Marcella Detroit - Bit disappointed with this one. Given how brilliant "Hormonally yours" was I was expecting something a bit special. Having played it a couple of times it's improving though. Beautiful South/Miaow. Haven't heard this one yet (except for the single). I have a feeling this is going to be a goody. Uncle Bonsai/Boys Want Sex in the Morning - Whoever mentioned this on ecto. Thank You. I *love* this album more than M&S Italian style pizza's - it's that good (and if you've ever tasted M&S italian style pizza's you'll know what I mean). I never thought I'd hear a sad song about "The Love Boat" but now I have! Oh, and for those quiet moments a CD of Gregorian chant music!! tha't it until I go shopping again. Happy Easter. tim ======================================================================== The ecto archives are on hardees.rutgers.edu in ~ftp/pub/hr.
