Just got back from Boston...had a wonderful time over the weekend with the Bean-town crowd and the Ecto-Mobile. Thanks again Greg! I see by the zillion posts that most people have expressed their feelings about the show...im getting to it...there is just SO much to talk about i'm not quite sure to start. (insert where up there :) ) Like they say it's never over til it's over...and well here's the last Happy related incident that happened on my trip... I was driving through New Hampshire in fact it was right before the border to Vermont when my tape-player decided it wanted to take a bite out of Rhodes Vol. II...of course having a minor freak out I put the hazard lights on and pulled over to the side to see if I could salvage the tape...not wanting to get in an accident trying to fix the bloody thing :)...next minute I see Mr. Lebanon NH police pulling up behind me with his lights going...of course I begin to freak out... Well all he wanted to know was if I was allright, I blabbered something about dropping something important on the floor and said thanks for stopping but im ok..phew..i pulled out, he pulled out and five miles later the tape was fixed! more to tell later kiri 'kirstin HaarGGGie, HAarGGie, HHHaaRGgie'....happy ======================================================================== From: kIrI Date: Mon, 23 Mar 1992 18:25:13 EST Subject: more I failed to mention the simple fact that Happy topped herself at the Philly show....I thought Albany was perfectly brilliant, but Philly was nothing short of magical. Plus I forgot to mention how great it was meeting all the Ectophiles, and another big thanks to Mark for lending us his *wonderful* floor, Liz and Mark S. for bringing the food (and not complaining about my bouncing in the chair during the concert where I was literally about to bounce off and start dancing :( ), and various other sundry people that I forgot to say thanks to! kIrI -- ----------------------------------------------------------------- > Black room mirror echoes hargieka@craft.camp.clarkson.edu< > Warm blood tickles ebony lips Kirstin A. Adding shoe sizes to the list. Ack. Mine's 8 1/2. :) It really was great meeting you all... being able to attach faces to at least some of the ectophiles is a good thing. Hopefully we'll be able to do this again sometime soon. Like in two weeks? This is about 90% certain now, and I was putting off posting about it until it was 100% certain, but since we were talking about it in Albany and Philly, I'll say it: Happy might be playing at Wesleyan on April 5th. I have to track down my friend who is really setting it up and see what happened while I was gone... as soon as I do, you all will get a post with the details. Until then, keep all your appendages crossed!!! One more thing before I disappear into the depths of Thesis Hell for the night: it really struck me how awed the folks in the band were/are of Happy and her music. Martha Waterman and Kelly Bird (keyboardist and backup singer) were raving and gushing about her music, especially her new stuff, more than I've heard any of us go off (well, except maybe Vickie ;). That was really interesting to see: these are very good musicans she's got, and they're honestly awed and honored to be a part of her work. I was extremely impressed by the sheer respect for her they have, which shows what a wonderful and talented person Happy really is. Meeting her was great- she's one of the cooler people I've met in a really long time, and I'm certain I would have thought that if I'd just met her at a party or something not knowing who she was. I'm doubly excited at the prospect of her coming to Wesleyan because then I'll get a chance to interview her, and spend a bit more time with her than I had the chance to last weekend. Speaking of which, I'll be officially soliciting interview questions and suggestions as soon as I've set the thing up, so stay tuned... I now return you to your regularly-scheduled microanalysis of Happy's lyrics and discussion of her three cats... ;> +----------------------------------------------+ | Meredith A. IMO, "Four The Moment" are excellent. Well, actually I'm not that much interested in acapella groups, but this particular review sounded promising. Welcomes to Christine, Peter and Tracy! You have chosen a good time to join Ecto. Meredith was unneccesarily disappointed: > It's not really "my" show, Champagne Jam is mine (aw Klaus, why'd > you take the tape out of your car? ;) I didn't! Honestly! The original tape is at home, but a copy has been in the car all the time. I just have listened to something different for a change. :) My copy cut KaTe's "Oh England, my Lionheart" even more. It now goes: "Oh England, my Lionh/" :( Albert asked: > Got to tell you more later... Or you can come to the European > Ectophile party. (Klaus, I hope there is still some time in the party > schedule to play some of my music?) There should be time enough for anybodies music! Especially as the "party" has been extended to several days. Most of the guests will be here from Thursday to Tuesday. I'm sure we will post something all along. BTW, Albert, the Sugarcubes tickets are here! I you would like to write something to the party, you can mail it to ectoparty@inphobos.w.open.de which will be active from today, until the end of the gathering. That will be quicker, as digest are send out somewhat later. Talking of digests: where are those concert reports I've been waiting for for hours. :) Let's mail this message and see if I get a digest in return. :) Tschuess, Klaus. ___________________________________________________________ ( "Tell me all the plans you have for the great beyond. ) ) Will you be physical again, or be a cosmic vagabond." Date: Mon, 23 Mar 92 20:56:48 -0500 From: jeffy@syrinx.umd.edu One of the first things an audience member was likely to see upon entering the Museum Auditorium was the tacky little blue and white plastic sign attached to Happy's mic stand. It read "Open" on the first line, and below that was printed "Come In." It's the sort of thing you see in the windows of small shops all over. It was a nice touch, but it got much better. At some point the sign was taken off the stand and put on the floor (I didn't notice when...perhaps by a rhodie before the band actually started playing?) Just before intermission, Happy picked up the sign, and turned it over. On the back was a picture of a clock face, with moveable plastic hands. The top of the sign read "We will reopen at:". Happy looked at her watch, and then set the clock hands to read 9:00. She hung the sign up on her mic stand and left the stage. It was great! Jeff |Jeffrey C. Please please please continue to post anything and everything about the concerts and the related events. This ectophile is kicking himself for not spending the insignificant money it would have taken to see Happy perform live. However, I will be looking out for the future shows and figuring out whatever excuse it takes to get to them. I can hardly wait to hear Vickie's reports on the shows, assuming that she will have resumed breathing by the time her computer is back. I just lent a friend of mine _Ecto_ and the Ecto SIG tape, after he mentioned that he is from upstate New York and I mentioned that one of my favorite musicians lives there. I am waiting to hear his reactions. I'll be slipping a tape in the mail as soon as the necessary procrastination interval has elapsed, Greg :-). ======================================================================== Date: Tue, 24 Mar 92 11:19:13 MET From: Albert Philipsen Subject: I just don't know when to shut up Hi! Here are just a few more random observations. Starting tomorrow, I won't have access to a keyboard for at least two days, so you won't have to put up with my ramblings for a while. I'll try to be brief and to the point. I just quickly read all your concert reports, and I must say they will require multiple readings to fully appreciate. Here are some first impressions. I love Happy's sense of humor. It's great how she is able to say funny things that can really make you feel good. My shoe size is 41. I know what my selection for the next HGP will be: Cymbeline, the last track from Loreena McKennitt's The Visit. I think I can even come up with a message that will be brief and to the point. I NEED dubs of the last HGP, dubs of Suspended in Gaffa shows and *digital* copies of the concert recordings (I'll even buy a DAT deck to play them.) I want life-size full-colour posters of Vickie and Happy, just to kneel down before. I really feel like starting a flame war on gaffa on the topic of "Brainless Emotionalism", just for the fun of it. (I didn't get a single reaction to my Tori Amos concert review on gaffa. Not even from that other person@cs.vu.nl that called her a Kate Bush surrogate (BTW, where can I get REAL Kate Bush surrogates, I would like one :-). Perhaps that graveyards & vampires quote scared them. I'm always quivering with delight when I hear her sing those lines.) I can't wait to finally read the first issue of the Ectozine. I shouldn't start all my sentences with I. I'm appalled by the idea that a Meeting Of Ectophiles will be called a party -- a four dimensional body of time and space in which people numb their minds with drugs, talk loudly about cynical nonsense and listen to ridiculous "music". Moreover, the word party stresses the aspect of parting too much. I think the meeting is more important. Let's call it a meety. Don't be surprised if I won't be able to produce one coherent sentence in English at the... meety.
