Hello folks .. I'm not sure how many of you Amiga owners have heard about 'POP PROFILES', but they do exist...and they're amazing!! These are PD discs which contain music, graphics and text about a particular artist or group, complete with the display program. I have the (ahem) good fortune to be one of the compilers for the project. I am therefore asking - do you have any writings that you would like to submit? Any scanned/drawn graphics files? Or any cover versions of anybody's music? Nearly ANY format is acceptable, we've got several converters at our disposal. If so, please mail them to me (or point me to an FTP site). All the work must be completely original (no re-hashes of a Daily Mail story from 1974 :) ) and mildly interesting to either a casual or die-hard fan. The articles can be about anything you like, album reviews, discographies FAQ's, anedotes or background about their previous music projects or private life. I'm not fussy. Your copyright remains (obviously) and you will be creditted for all the work that appears. In addition, anybody that would like to become a beta-tester for version 2 should contact me as well, before (or around) the 19th June. I hope to recieve piles of mail from you soon, so the discs can be sent around the world (with YOUR name on it) very quickly. If you want to be included in the second batch, make sure I recieve your work by the 28th of June. Steev S.Goodwin1@lut.ac.uk Definition of Mistake: A correct assumption... P.s. The test versions will be uploaded to cs.uwp.edu around 20th, and final versions will be out at the end of the month. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>><<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< Jens P. Yes, definite thanks to Jessica for starting Ecto! (Though I still think the birthdate should be June 13, since that's when the first message came through.) Welcomes to Ken Kindler, Neal Copperman, Paula Shanks, Martin Hanley, and all other new Ectophiles. Need a FAQ? Quick thoughts & replies: Neal, Peter Gabriel is worth anything you would have to pay. Honest. Congratulations to Michael and Susan! Congratulations to Beth! Jeffy, no, I still haven't heard that song with MMO'H. Also, I'd hate to be pegged as a Smiths/Morressey hater, when I'd be best described as a "neutralist" being as how I've only ever heard a couple of songs. One I heard that I *don't* like is the one that Kirsty MacColl sings on the soundtrack to _She's Having A Baby_. Aaaaaaaand, I would never say anything about who people choose to quote in their posts. (I might sometimes say something about the quotes themselves though. I just got into a lot of trouble doing that in RDT. :-)) Thank you brni. Talk of 10cc prompts me to ask if anyone else has seen _One World, One Voice_? It seems it's been mentioned before. I'll try to write more about it later, if no one else does. (Oh no, my name is longer Ecto-unique. Hi, Martin!) What MartinH says is true, but he does have close ties with Australia, particularly Perth. His girlfriend was (is) one of the singers from oh-fer-crissakes-I've-forgotten-the-band's-name from Fremantle.. anyway, his girlfriend is a FOAF of mine, and I actually met Ben once at a party about two years ago. At the time, he spent most of the year here in Perth, writing and what-not... going back to Pommyland only for work commitments. In person, he was much more like the author of his books than the author of his scripts, if you see what I mean. Anthony says: >The TV mini-series of "Stark" has just premiered at the Melbourne Film >Festival and will screen on TV here later in the year; it was shot in >Melbourne by the director of "The Big Steal", "Malcolm" and "Ricky And >Pete" (oh, alright, and the execrable "Pure Luck"), Nadia Tass. Seems odd to shoot a movie based in Perth and Western Australia over in Melbourne. I hope they haven't changed the rest of the plot as much... Movies: I've had a ripper of a weekend, movie-wise. Friday night I saw Aladdin with some good friends, and was mightily impressed. The animation, the colours, the humour, the music... absolutely wonderful. I must admit to nearly shedding a tear during some scenes, so carried away did I get. The brilliant blending of computer-generated characters with the main animation gave real life to the thing. Plus the genie, of course... I wasn't expecting much from Robin Williams, but was pleasantly surprised. On Saturday I saw a 3D movie at our OmniMax theatre whilst, well, high. I can barely describe how fantastic this was.... :) :) :) 8-} Then last night I saw Groundhog Day, which was a nice idea, well-executed and with enough surprises to be quite enjoyable. Music: Not much new. I've been too busy rediscovering old favourites and creating my own. Martin "Isn't it great to be alive?" Dougiamas P.S.
