Actually, I remember a pan/time lapse sequence from "Koyaanisqatsi" as well, panning a cityscape while corpuscular traffic streams through it. (That reminds me of a song by Michael Hedges, "Out On The Parkway," but I digress.) Philip Glass and his band played two concerts at U.Cal.-Berkeley back in April, accompanying the showings of "Koyaanisqatsi" and "Powaqqatsi". I saw them both (fifth row center :) ) and it was a thrilling experience. Before the shows I went up to see what kind of equipment he and his band were using (I'm a keyboardist, too). The rest of the band were using state-of-the-art Korgs and Yamahas (except for one DX7)... Glass himself had a Roland Juno 60 and some other antique. Sounded great though. Analog lives! We actually bought it about 3 months ago and haven't gotten around to mailing you until now. :-) Anyway, we like the CD a lot; we're already big Kate (Bush) fans. We'll prolly get another when we get the money. Thanks, Johan van Zanten & Camille von Eberstein ps. Good idea, BTW. Got a good CD and a good CDev that we use almost everyday. Thanks again. ======================================================================== Date: Thu, 17 Jun 93 14:22:26 est From: ajs@jloda.cci.com (Alan Sodoma) Subject: Ani & Gabriel! Yup, I did make it to the Ani Difranco concert at the Boogie Bar in grand old Rochester, NY. It was my first time seeing her, although she's from Buffalo and plays in Rochester quite frequently. There were quite a few more people there than I figured would be there. I'd guess around 300.?? I was often distracted since a few of my friends were there, but I enjoyed what I heard. Sorry Kevin, that might have been us who were a bit noisy. She did a short set of pretty much all solo acoustic songs. I'm not familiar with titles, so I didn't note them. Then she took a break and came out for a longer second set with a drummer. I'm gonna try to get the tapes of the show. She's definitely better live than on the studio tapes, although those are fine. :-) All in all, quite excellent. I'd see her again! On to the Peter Gabriel tour. Of course, it starts here in Rochester tomorrow. The trucks have been here all week. The War Memorial has been heavily guarded, but thanks to the newspaper we know that the band jammed a bit on Tuesday night. Peter and daughter took a couple bikes out for a ride. Tonight (Thurs.), there's a full dress rehearal, of course closed to the public. I plan on going over there tonight and poking around a bit to see what I can see. :-) Al Sodoma ======================================================================== From: Martin Hanley Subject: Strolling along... If you liked STARK (or have realised that more cars are a Bad Thing), I think you'd like GRIDLOCK too. BTW, Ben is at the moment making and starring in a TV version of Stark for the BBC; it should be out in a couple of months. > 8. I was given a copy of The Proclaimer's album. Just a couple of things: Ben Elton may be Australian by birth (I don't know) but he has a pretty convincing cockney accent. Also, you can get the book anywhere in Britain, not just England (sorry, pet peeve strikes again). > 8. I was given a copy of The Proclaimer's album. Odd? Us? We don't sound odd. Everybody else does. :-) I think it makes a refreshing change when people sing in their own accents instead of effecting one that will help the album sell in the big US market. -- _____________________________________________________________________ / Evan Welsh \ \ Edinburgh Parallel Computing Centre (+44 31 650 5960) / ======================================================================== Date: Fri, 18 Jun 1993 05:47:52 -0500 From: lan@panix.com (Larry Nathanson) Subject: The Proclaimers... But she probably wouldn't show, because she'd be at the Kate concert!:) I mean I do like most of Kate's music, but Happy reaches deeper into my soul. No offense meant to Gaffans!
