Skip now if you're not interested in US/Gay politics In todays "Financial Post" on page 8, _US Gays In Military to remain in closet_ Reuter "...The new policy...states that sexual orientation is in itself no grounds for exclusion from the military service. But it also says that homosexual conduct on or off-base - including mere statement that an individual is homosexual - is forbidden and will be grounds for dismissal from the service." So how does this policy change anything about the gays or the military? I mean, gays were in the military, in the closet, and dismissed when they were "found out"... Seems the status quo is maintained with this "new" policy. Am I missing something here? Anyway, it's nice to know that if I ever get drafted into the US Armed Forces (ha! fat chance!), all I gotta do swish my wrists a little and I'll get thrown out... Who needs all this bullshit about applying for CO status... With a CO exemption, it's an EFFORT to convince someone. This way, you just gotta pretend you are gay and no proof is necessary! Your observation that there are "gay-rights people" on ecto was somewhat correct. I'm sure there are quite a few gay (etc.) Happy fans. Your next observation that the new policy is basically a restatement of the status quo is also correct. If you want more info, mail me or read alt. politics.homosexuality or soc.motss. Also, in the past (including the Gulf War) gays are not kicked out of the military during conflicts, but are promptly are afterward, so being gay does not protect you from the draft. It was 1.5 weeks ago that I casually said to this one friend of mine (a great Kate Bush -fan like myself) : 'I wonder where one could obtain some Happy Rhodes' music from...'. Actually I said 'Mistahan loytaisi Happy Rhodesin musiikkia', but most of you wouldn't understand that. Anyway, he opened a drawer and there they were, five tapes that were about to change my life. I had no idea he had this stuff :) Anyway, he doesn't like it as much as KaTe... A little bit about myself: I'm a Finnish student (majoring in comp. science), male and 23 years old (18.02.70), very interested in music, literature (both English and Finnish), poetry, cult-movies, Italian horror movies, modern Asian cinema, Edgar Allan Poe... Aside from Happy, my taste rotates around Suzanne Vega, Kate Bush, Tori Amos and a whole bunch of lesser artists whom I still consider likeable. Depeche Mode, some indie stuff etc. etc. I wonder why it is that they always link together KaTe, Tori and Happy but not Suzanne Vega, to me she's a very logical continuation to them! I think I'll order Equipoise as a cd directly from Happy as soon as possible, it's the only one I haven't heard as of yet. You can just throw the bills in an envelope along with a letter, I suppose? (I was raised in a family that never believed in credit cards or cheques :) And yeah, what else? Many thanks to Vickie Mapes for informing me about the list and helping out :) It does seem that Ectophiles are of the finest kind of people roaming the earth.
