Great idea ... although from my recent experience, such a thing already seems to exist :) :). Certainly anytime anybody is in Melbourne, they're more than welcome to stay with me, and be shown around and stuff. Provided I'm there of course :). When I'm in Holland, I hope to be getting some net access, and when I do, I'll post out a new address, and anyone passing through Leiden in the next year is more than welcome to stay with me there (provided it's up to me, which it should be). Here's to a prosperous Ecto-hostel ... Date: Mon, 19 Jul 1993 01:33:06 +1000 (EST) Well, being the conformist that I am, here's a sample of good music: Peter Gabriel - Hmmm ... I can't split them. Probably US if I was forced to choose, 'cos it's the newest. Kate Bush - Hmmm ditto ... The Dreaming because it hits you ... or The Red Shoes if it was out, 'cos it'd be new ... :) Laurie Anderson - Big Science Suzanne Vega - Suzanne Vega Genesis - Foxtrot ... I just love Horizons and Suppers Ready Happy Rhodes - Ecto Cyndi Lauper - Hat Full of Stars Things of Stone and Wood - The Yearning Peter Gabriel - Passion They Might Be Giants - Lincoln That's ten ... it's not enough ... still, it's only the best ten albums that popped into my head at the time. DIFilms: The Princess Bride Top Secret Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid Monty Python and the Holy Grail Koyaanisqatsi Peter's Friends Cyrano de Bergerac (Gerard Depardieu) Howard's End The Fisher King The Company of Strangers The last four are a bit more transient than the first six ... DIBooks: The Lord of the Rings - JRRT The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant (I and II) - SD The extended Hitch Hikers trilogy - Douglas Adams Stark - Ben Elton and this is taking too much effort. Those four will do :) Byee Chris. -- | ||| ||| | ||| ||| ||| | ||Christopher Boek - boek@mullian.ee.mu.oz.au | ||| ||| | ||| ||| ||| | || Dept Elec Eng Univ of Melbourne Australia | | | | | | | | | / "Anybody remotely interesting is mad in |___|___|___|___|___|___|___|___| \_/\_/\_/\_/\__/(:*- some way or another" ======================================================================== Subject: Thanks and other stories Date: Sun, 18 Jul 93 11:47:46 EDT From: Angelos Kyrlidis Hi, Thanks to all for your kind words. I really enjoyed reading the messages!! I haven't had the time to address them individually because I have been roaming around for the last two days... :) I acquired a few CDs (Thomas Dolby's 'The flat earth', 'Sweet Relief', Tribe's 'Sleeper', 'The Mambo kings OST', and a CD5 of Dr. Alban's 'Sing Hallelujah' with an 8 minute remix of 'It's my life' to be exact :)). So far the songs that really stand out from all the above are 'I scare myself', Lou Reed's 'Tarbelly and featherfoot', Tribe's 'Supercollider' (any song about Physics is muy cool :)) and 'Beautiful maria of my soul' by Antonio Banderas. The rest of Tribe's album seemed bland on first listen, but it probably isn't... I'll write more after I've ODed on it in Greece. The Boston Phoenix indeed ran a story on the Story. They don't seem to like the new one as much as the first one, but they think it's OK. More on that later too... Saw LOTS of movies (my sister is visiting me so we usually have these marathons): 'Jurassic Park' (the book is *way* better, but the dinos look great), 'The Firm' (liked the movie better than the book), 'Sleepless in Seattle' (maybe if the hero watched the movie its title would be 'sleepy in seattle'...I expected the magic of 'When harry met sally', but yawned my way through it) and others on tape of which 'Hero' and 'A league of their own' stand out. The ecto-kite idea sounds wonderful (btw Jeff, I was rolling on the floor with your gabriel concert dream sequence. ya think it would work? ;-)) Off to the Museum of Fine Arts for a last stroll... In other news, it is absolutely wonderful to see so much original music going to Happy! I for one am quite impressed with this aspect of Ecto - congratulations people for being so creative! And I think a kite would be a fantastic gift. I am unfortunately reeling from a major down payment and an upcoming mortgage payment so I regretfully cannot contribute at this time; however if you can wait about 2 months... Mitch, I did get your note and will pass it on to Susanne. It came through Genie first and later your third attempt made it to deepspace. I am toying with the idea of dropping SAI and returning fullly to Genie, but I just like the name so much... I suggest anyone trying to reach me personally use my Genie address, r.lovejoy1@genie.geis.com - it seems more reliable. I will also talk to Susan about servicing Kiri's station, and all else relevant recently. I have been on vacation and a little out of touch, but I shall call Susanne on Monday. By the way, Kiri, let me add my congrats to the others on your new gig! Sorry the station has so many restrictions, but you still have a lot of influence on the shape of your program. A recent note from Dallas raised the thought of an Ecto-hostel, and I'd like to generally offer my home as a place to crash for those travelling in the Philadelphia area. In a way, we all know each other to some degree, and we all have at least two things in common. If you don't mind dogs, teenagers, and bad puns, just let me know in advance! Attention Philly Ectophiles! Let's get together to welcome Chris Boek to our area next month. I have offered him a place to crash, and we should find a place to get together. Call me at (215)569-4100 on Wednesday of this week or later, during business hours, and maybe we can plan some activities for him while he's in the area! That's it for now. Take care everyone, and we'll see you on line! Bob the wordy ======================================================================== The ecto archives are on hardees.rutgers.edu in ~ftp/pub/hr.
