Date: Fri, 9 Jul 1993 16:05:23 +1000 (EST) Hi people. Further news on the Netherlandic adventure, comprising a few sojourns into US territory ... I'm going to be stopping in LA for a few days, and was wondering if any ectophiles live out that way ... if so, we should arrange to meet up!! I'll be arriving there on the third of August (Tuesday) in the morning, and leaving on the 6th of August (Friday) in the morning. Let me know if so - it would be fantastic to meet up with some people there too!! From: tsai@ikos.com (Finney T. Tsai) Subject: DID's BTW, is there any Fellini or Joyce fan on Ecto? -finney -->i'm not sure that "fan" is really a word that can be associated with joyce (or even fellini). i actually have similar reactions to both of them; i alternate between admiration and annoyance, often with little provocation, and sometimes entertaining both attitudes at once. 3. It's not as doom-ish on my system - my speakers are blessed with passive subwoofers, which means that it's the *really* low bass notes that make things move - I have to adjust the upper bass response to compensate for the sub bass content. That note in the middle of "Cohabitants" is, honestly, one of the bestest bass notes ever commited to tape. My house is currently three streets away from where it was last week, and at this rate I'll be in Seattle by Christmas. Hope the house floats. :) > enjoying it. There's also a semi-note of doom earlier on in "A Case of > Glass", but you really have to be cranking it for it to be effective. [Anthony duly cranks it] Hmmm. Not bad. NIce top end on this song, by the way. It glistens. And Meri, you're right, this is a wonderful album, just perfect for my mood tonight. Incidentally, speaking of things of Doom, that "glass breaking" impact sound near the start of "Out Like A Lamb" that demolishes anything within range of the left speaker is also mighty impressive, more in a feel-it- crunch-against-your-chest sort of way. Kevin, if I ever do an album, you're producing it, okay? :) > This is by far my favorite Happy album, as I've said > before. It's just too cool for words. Choosing DIDs is hard. I've just waded through my 596 strong CD collection and after much agonising come up with the following list of my 10 favourite discs (alphabetically by artist). An important criterion in selection was whether the discs stand up to heavy rotation listening: 1. Alan Parsons Project "Anthology" 2. Arrakeen "Patchwork" 3. Camel "Stationary Traveller" 4. Chandelier "FacinGravity" 5. Enya "Watermark" 6. Eris Pluvia "Rings Of Earthly Light" 7. Genesis "Seconds Out" 8. IQ "Ever" 9. Jadis "More Than Meets The Eye" 10. Happy Rhodes "Equipoise" If I was instead allowed to do my own compilation albums, these are the artists whose "bests of" I'd take: 1. Alan Parsons Project 2. Kate Bush 3. Capercaillie 4. Clannad 5. Genesis 6. IQ/Jadis (a bit of a cheat but there is a large overlap in band memberships) 7. Marillion 8. Loreena McKennitt 9. Pendragon 10. Happy Rhodes Geoff Parks PS Albert, I received my copy of HR^5 (plus one for Terry) on Wednesday too, so it appears Europe was inundated that day! Like others, I wish the cover picture had been larger. It's definitely worth the $s from a fan's perspective and I enjoy the acoustic versions of SOS & FTF very much (although I do prefer the album versions). The cover of ATA I just can't get into - probably because I don't like the original (or most of The Dame's output for that matter). ======================================================================== Date: Thu, 8 Jul 93 00:14 MET DST From: uli@zoodle.robin.de (Ulrich Grepel) Subject: Re: drowning in digests Klaus doing his own name: > Thanks Kjetil, for the Mari Boine info.
