No way! (Don't you dare say "way!" :-) One of the things that attracted me to Happy's music initially was the superbly musical use of keyboards and sequencers. How else could she achieve things like The Bass Note Of Doom on "Cohabitants," for example. That song, and the THX intro from "The Abyss" are the two things I use to impress people by making my house move laterally 3 inches to the right... :) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Anthony Horan, Melbourne Australia - anthony@xymox.apana.org.au "Not everybody likes me, but I don't like everybody either!" - Ilka Heber ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- ======================================================================== Date: Thu, 01 Jul 1993 20:59:31 +1000 (AEST) From: anthony@xymox.apana.org.au (Anthony Horan) Subject: Re: (none) In apana.lists.rec.happy-rhodes, article <9307010440.AA09259@monet.vill.edu___>, you wrote: > (i realize that this is all relative, and that nothing happy has sounds > commercial next to, say, janet jackson or bruce springsteen) or gabriel's > _security_ album). I still can't get over how Geffen called that album "Security". It spoiled a very funny joke with Gabriel's album titles. All the first four, all called "Peter Gabriel". :) > save _the sensual world_ for last, as it is the only album with a > *bad* kate bush song on it (i suppose that some people like "deeper > understanding", but i don't). I do. It is in fact my second favorite track after the title track itself. Okay, so it has some very silly lyrics, but melodically it's superb. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Anthony Horan, Melbourne Australia - anthony@xymox.apana.org.au "Not everybody likes me, but I don't like everybody either!" - Ilka Heber ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- ======================================================================== Date: Thu, 01 Jul 1993 23:29:13 -0400 (EDT) From: Suspended In Duct Tape Subject: Re: Suspended in Gaffa Hi! True - the Gabriel of "Lay Your Hands On Me" and "Rhythm Of The Heat" seems to have taken a temporary holiday. He's got his own studio, he should lock himself in it and record some personal demo tapes that the record company can steal... :-) > This is a bit exaggerated, but a song like Solsbury Hill sounds > much more personal than Talk To Me for instance. (concernig the music, > not the lyrics). It's actually like the personal stuff - musically - only gets to surface on occasion because of his commitment to other works, soundtracks amongst them. "Fourteen Black Paintings" on "Us" is a prime example of Gabriel being himself. He should do it more often... > P.P.P.S.: Thanks, Anthony, for clarifying the bounce mail problem. I don't know what's been posted about it yet (being about three weeks behind on ecto digests), but the acoustic covers are great. Happy wrote a note on the CD sleeve saying that she liked the Ashley Maher tape alot (which I gave her at the last signing at 20th Century sound), though she hadn't listened to the other side yet (on which I put some Harper). It's good to be gaining converts. I'll try and get upto-date on ecto soon. Is that ZOOPORA... ZOOROPA... what? I was in the local Sound Warehouse store when they trotted out this big display announcing the new U2 release. It was this big pyramid with the new CD and Cassettes all over and everything was wrapped in layers and layers of plastic. The sign said the new release would be available starting JULY 6th. The manager then called over all the sales-driods and told them to keep a close eye on the display and check it occansionaly for cuts-n-tears. Of course, customers started gathering around and asking questions and the manager announced that they couldn't sell any until July 6th. Hey, but them Aussies already got 'em - not fair!!!!
